Set in the heart of Didsbury, this smelly ancient boozer is one of the original pubs that used to welcome travellers using the old Didsbury station. The decor (I imagine) hasn't changed much, but it could do with a scrub. The beer is hit and miss, sometimes excellent, sometimes poor, the price is always high.
Packed at the weekends and dead in the week, the nights tick over but the majority of their trade must come on a weekend, especially considering the huge TV (sports) which is perminantly on.
Worth a visit, but not to often.

Nobody told me about the free monkey nuts!
After being taken to the curry delights of Rusholme, we went up the road to this pub. There is a quiz night. The quiz master went around with the papers. Completely by passed our table of two! Would have loved to join in - I knew that Jane Austen wrote Persuasion.
Had a nice pint of Tribute - all the way from Cornwell to Manchester. Looked like one of the better pubs in this area.
Next time I go, I will look for the nuts. And if I dont get invited to the quiz, I will shout out the answers.

Agree with some of the other drinkers here - Didsbury is hit and miss with its pubs. D&P is a definite 'hit' though, my favourite since moving here three months ago. Good beer, good crowd (chain pubs usefully draw away the c**ts, of whom there are many in Didsvegas on a Saturday night), a 'proper pub' feel without making too big a deal about it. Oh, and free monkey nuts. Lovely.

Excellent pub which does get very busy. Landlord is always good and there is a regularly changing long list of guest ales. Free monkey nuts in the bar and good, efficient service. Friendly landlord (not all that common in Didsbury). One of my faves in South Manchester

Packed. Need i say more? Although i did go in on Friday night. Seriously though, it was alright, i wouldn't recommend it but i also wouldn't tell people not to go.

Great boozer when it's quiet and when the TV isn't on full volume. Fun pub quizes, and nice locals when it's not too busy. The ales are okay too, although one we tried (can't remember which) tasted like it hadn't moved for a while. But a good pub, all in all.

Great pub. Quiet in the afternoons and evenings with good music but busier at night. TV's normally show sport but an ask will get them changed on request especially during quiet periods. Always draws a crowd for big rugby and football matches.
Up to 4 guest ales at any point as well as the ever-present Tim Taylors' Landlord and Theakstons Best. Fosters, 1664 and San Miguel on draught as well as Guinness and Strongbow. Once in a blue moon the landlord gets in Old Rosie, ah lovely.
Wide selection of Wines and Spirits (50ml shots!!!!) accompany massive selection of crisps, nuts and pork scratchings! Tradition lives on in the barrel of FREE monkey nuts in the corner of the pub which are guaranteed to give the sweeper at the end of the night a job to do.
Mainly a regulars pub (isn't Didsbury as a whole?) although it's very accommodating including Pint Pot Paul. As his nickname suggests he can balance a pint pot on his head and dance. Well worth buying him a pint to see him do it.
Drinks reasonably priced and anyway the cheaper drinks in Slug and Lettuce and O�Neill�s attract the scum to them instead leaving a merry crowd in the D+P :-)
On the whole, good surroundings, great staff (good-looking too!), good punters and nice drinks. What more could you want?

I was in here just after Christmas for a pint, I'd better set the record straight; the beer is horrendous, nothing resembling a decent pint. In this place you are reduced to drinking guiness or cider, a most depressing scenario since there is decent ale to be had in didsbury. I was also fortunate enough to meet some of the local scum, but they are harmless enough and coexist in this place happily alongside the decent crowd. on a more positive note the darts was on tv, but was obscured from view by a right fat b*stard pie man, which for once, wasn't me.

Outside of the Friday night/Saturday night mayhem it's superb. Friendly staff and good beer. You get the odd tosser but doesn't everywhere?

Agreed probably the best pub in Didsbury. Worrying trend of having louder TV recently not great though. Has it's off nights.

Good selection of beers...usually in very good nick...Didsbury prices tho` so don`t expect much change...Good place to sup a couple outside normal didsbury choc-a-bloc hours (ie weekend nights)...
Thank God they don`t still serve `Old Rosie`cider...I can now remember going home!....Well worth a look...
Watched England win the rugby World Cup there-top atmosphere!

Splendid pub. Good variety of ever changing ales on at any one time. It does get quite busy but the prices are good and the atmosphere is good. Worth a pint or two, if you can get to the bar!

The quiz from the Crown comes here on a Wednesday evening - more prizes available, but a less friendly quizing atmosphere. Incredibly busy when the football is on. A couple of little corners to sit in, but get there early.
