user reviews of Lamb Inn, Edmonton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I usually only visit this pub to watch football, and find that in this area the state of a pub during a football match is a good indicator of it's quality. On match nights you will predictably find it full of Spurs fans (get in early if it's a big game) and it's my primary choice for watching football locally. Most pubs in Edmonton are not going to fill you with joy, but this one at least doesn't make you feel as though you're on the wrong side of the Berlin Wall. It's decor is welcoming, the girls behind the bar are friendly, know who's next and might even remember what you ordered last time. It has an unthreatening atmosphere, plenty of screens for the game, plus a big projector at the back and usually has a couple of real ales on the pumps. Often Greene King IPA and Wells Bombadier, although that had been replaced with Wychwood Hobgoblin last time. Anyway, most fellas in there dink lager anyway.

thetexan - 30 Dec 2010 15:59
have not been in this pub for about 5 years and wish i had not bothered.waited 10 minutes to be served while 2 tubby barmaids finished gossiping and then the beer had the biggest head ive had in a long time.will not be going in that hole again
dudelove - 13 Jul 2010 18:30
SORT IT OUT, the manager needs sorting. She is too much for herself and ............ Get some better staff.
musicmanic - 7 Apr 2010 11:41
I am glad it is friday cos the 2 girls will be working and they are very good. The pub needs something to happen to it, to make it a good boozer. At the moment, the comments are true. The stalls are old and broken, the glasses are really bad. Replace all the broken furniture and maybe get a pool table.
northlondonn9 - 4 Dec 2009 21:19
I agree with the comments, the staff are good and the place is a shit hole, if you like both = go
tonyone - 3 Dec 2009 07:39
The staff are very good at this pub, shame about everything else. Keep it up girls.
thirstywork999 - 2 Dec 2009 10:01
Live from the lamb now lol see how much better it is now the assistant manager is back .................
Robbo123 - 1 Dec 2009 21:24
You are so right Neringa, you are a good staff member along with rebecca. A credit to the lamb. I drink here and I enjoy it when you two are working. The lamb is the lamb and will always stay the same.
crawler101 - 1 Dec 2009 20:32
True, true, there is good bar staff at the lamb, 100 times better than her. Don't worry girls we know she is writing the positive comments about herself or barricuda staff are but us the customer have the right as we drink there. You are very good bar staff and I hope you stay. The barstaff I am talking about are the ones that are there friday/monday. They work very well together. Hope you stay. And as for the pub, it is right, it is a shit hole but if you don't care, you are ok
totallytrue - 30 Nov 2009 15:51
What about the other members of staff at this pub, they are very good. Why does people not say about them. I think they are a credit to this pub so pls can people start mentioning them. I have to say I look forward to going here friday night just for them.
spursfan101 - 30 Nov 2009 13:24
This place needs more than T.L.C
blindeyes - 27 Nov 2009 13:26
I thought I would come on here as I am a regular and have heard so much about this site. As a regular I have notice the place go down rapidly in the last few months, under new management but they are a bit wet behind the ears as there staff are stealing drinks from under their noses and they are so not aware, especially when they are away from the place. I have my drink regular and sit and watch, so I see the change. Def not the best or worst.
angelandstar - 21 Nov 2009 10:40
All comments are so true. I went on here after listening to all the stories from various barstaff of this pub, they were defending the pub at which they do have every right. So I thought I would have a look at this site. Most of the comments are true and it has had its day but it is everyone taste.
tellthetruth - 19 Nov 2009 20:34
Never going back here - went on a Thurs empty, clientelle were just pure shabby - couldnt wait to get out
tetleytea - 17 Nov 2009 16:13
Now apparently under 'new management' yet again. This place is dead in the water
downhill - 16 Nov 2009 16:38
what has happened ... last visits have been completely underwhelming, went in on a Sunday night - as usual empty, bar less than half full but for some reason the staff wouldn't serve on one side. Very, very disappointing....

goodfellas - 14 Nov 2009 16:54
I don't normally write on these sites but after reading reading all the comments I feel I should. The bar staff r fantasic they make friends with all the locals and go out of there way to talk to new faces. I went in on Tuesday last week and had a long friendly talk with the girl working on that day she is a treasure to the pub, after working there for a year. and today Wednesday the girl working is funny and so friendly I hear she has been working at the pub for a few years now and is a star. The drinks r great prices and they hav a friendly vibe in there I will go again. Keep ur rude and unfair comments to ur self I think.
upsiedaisy - 4 Nov 2009 21:06
Fair enough pokojo, I must have miscounted my change. 2.30 is very good value for an excellent pint like Hobgoblin.
RexRattus - 3 Nov 2009 15:23
hobgoblin it just 2.30, u get this wrong..
pokojo - 2 Nov 2009 21:51
Notwithstanding what the very many postings in recent months have to say, this pub is essentially unchanged since RogerBs posting back in April. I know its no longer a Wetherspoons pub, but it still retains that indefinable JDW look, although its a bit grubbier than most spoons. The pub itself is quite a bit bigger than it looks from the outside, with a lowered area at the back with several tables, plus a dartboard. They advertise food at lunchtime, but for some reason they werent doing any today. The barmaid was courteous, and apologised for the absence of any food. I didnt interact with any of the dozen or so customers who were in there at lunchtime, but they all had the look of being in socio-economic Class C. There was a bit of banter around the bar, centring on who was, or should be, barred, and whether swearing was the reason.

There really is nothing special about this place, although it did have four ales on Courage Best; Bombardier; Hobgoblin; and something that appeared to be a Hobgoblin Halloween special. I have to say that I got a full pint of Hobgoblin; it tasted fine, and was at the fairly reasonable price of 2.80 a pint. Nonetheless, I certainly wouldnt go out of my to visit here again.
RexRattus - 2 Nov 2009 18:48
Actually the pub clearly states cildren ARE allowed until 5pm in the desinated area, clearly the below comment was not written by someone using the pub, which therefore defeats the object of this site.
the1dd - 2 Nov 2009 18:24
This is a very basic place that needs new management so that some care can be administered to bring it back from the brink. The barmaid was nice enough. All of the elements are there for a good pub, but alas it has just been neglected for too long.

I will walk past next time I'm in this neck of the woods.

drinkerdrinker - 25 Oct 2009 16:03
Not to everyone's liking, a lot of room for improvement, if only the management were more welcoming and didn't see the pound sign everytime someone walked in the door.
drinkerboo - 21 Oct 2009 17:14
I was here last night, I ended up going to the pub across the road. All comments are true.
redwine - 21 Oct 2009 11:27
After reading the comments, I decided to visit the Lamb last night. Thought this was a good time as the football was on. I went in with a open mind. I did not think it would be as bad as the comments, I have read. I did order my drink and the barmaid looked like I had ask for somethng really unusual, when it was only a pint. When I went to sit down, my stall looked in a bad way and I have to say I decided to sit somewhere else. It is true, this pub def needs a refurb but all I can say is I won't be rushing back. Good luck to the new managers, think this pub needs more than you two to help it.
johnsmithn9 - 21 Oct 2009 10:31
Don't really care about assistant manager. People need to comment about the pub and be true. This pub does need a refurb and not have managers from this pub making comments about their own pub, some people need to be carful of what internet connection they use, esp when you can find out where. As for this pub, I have been reading all these comments and if I had to go with one I would say and after talking to the regulars, it is a boozer stuck in time and people I spoke to had stories to tell, what I was told about management and what had been going on was true to the negative comments. I hope people read the negative because what I saw and heard, it was so right.
sugarpie - 20 Oct 2009 19:14
Needs a refurb,
More Cask Ales-more pumps than Ales and
Wheres the entertainment gone guys??
Nice to see the new 'govs' making a comment on here-dont worry about the negativity seems someone recieved a knock back, from the assistant manager maybe hehe.
Well on my experience in the Lamb, I was made to feel comfortable (which i havent done for a long time, hence why I stopped using it), and the assistant manager, if we mean the same person (most pretty tiny girl??) seemed a nice girl, cant really comment any further on this front as everyone seemed to want her attention (I'll wait to make my move!).
New owners just do what you get paid to do, theres no pleasing everyone!

the1dd - 20 Oct 2009 19:04
Worst pub in Edmonton. Needs to close down.
beerwine - 19 Oct 2009 18:13
i think guys that you are totally wrong. Lamb have proper assistant manager and she try to do something good. All regular coustomers are happy there. I think she doesnt need coustomers like you. The Lamb is friendly familiar pub if you dont like it just dont go there.
That pub accros the road is really bad. Full of bad people and troublemakers. I dont really know what you can say nice about that place.
viperka27 - 10 Oct 2009 21:42
This pub is the worst, it is run by people who don't give a crap about the customers. The service of barstaff is crap. This pub needs closing down. Avoid
medium221 - 2 Oct 2009 10:32
Don't go, this pub has no stock i.e john best. They don't do food as the manager said she cannot cook but they advertise food, joke. Totally agree with to date comments, rubbish, rubbish, rubbish
goldenballs999 - 7 Sep 2009 17:25
Went here friday night and had a really good time. The karaoke was great, me and my friends had a good sing song. The locals were friendly and all the staff joined in with the fun.
sillyman - 31 May 2009 18:41
Had a meal here on Sunday afternoon (23.5.09). It was very nice. The locals were friendly and overall the experience was very good. I will be going back.
hardcow - 27 May 2009 20:46
Stopped by a few days back for a couple of pints. I understand why the locals are so eager to defend the place as it has a real community feel, and staff who made an effort. It does have a few real ales, nothing spectacular but far better than other pubs in the area. Worth a visit if you are in the area, but not outstanding (this pub visit was not especially memorable and I expect it will blur into many others over time).

It reminded me a lot of my local, which I visit regularly and enjoy, but only rate at 6/10.
dpv - 22 May 2009 10:13
I drink here on many occassions and have to say this is a good pub, despite RogerB, Gann, Zaphod. All I can say is after reading the comments, I deided to go there around December and have been going since. I like the entertainment and last night I went to a music quiz with friends and which we all enjoyed. I like the new menu. as it is affordable and nice. I like all the staff and have experience good customer service each time I have gone there.

The negative comments on here are for people that want a modern, out of this world, brand new pub. Well go to them and not local broozers. As for the comment the B ark, every person will get older and is entitle to go to the pub. Stay away if you don't have anything nice to say. It is a good pub.
george23 - 20 May 2009 11:51
I visited the Lamb pub when i came to the UK to see friends. I found it to be a great little pub. What a good atmosphere during the soccer. I found the manager and staff very friendly and approachable. The manager had time for everybody and made me and my friends very welcome indeed. The beer was good and the food was very tasty. Keep up the good work is what i say. Just ignore all the bad comments. There probably written by people who are jealous of how well the pub is being run.
mo.b - 19 May 2009 12:25
well having been drinking in the lamb for the past 10 years i think i can say my piece about it. The lamb is a good pub, good beer, good food. Its never gonna be the best pub in the world but i can safely say myself and all the other regulars love it. The manager at the moment really looks after his beers and he runs it very well. there are always gonna be people saying good and bad things about any place but that is their opinion and let them have it. my advice would be to come down and see for yourself. in my opinion its well run, good friendly staff and a credit to the company. keep up the good work.
jay72 - 19 May 2009 12:04
This is my local and after reading the recent reviews, well they might be right about a few things but I have to totally agree with one saying ' ex member of staff or someone very jealous. This pub is a average boozer but loads of us locals like it. It has got better of late due to entertainment at which we love and good staff. So going in now and again does not make you a expert and know it very well. Sounds as if some people have no life than to go or pretend to go to every pub and write reviews
tommy99 - 19 May 2009 11:42
Have popped into the Lamb Inn a couple of times over the past few months for a quick pint when emerging from Edmonton green station. I can also confirm that I also know this used to be a spoons and is now owned by Smith & Jones PubCo. But to avoid ridicule from the single posters I will confirm that this is not from any insider knowledge, just from the fact that I frequented a couple of times when it was a spoons and you cant miss the S&J branding when you visit now.
I found it to be a comfortable OK pub with a usually friendly crowd and drinkable, but not great beers. So to concur an OK pub but nothing special. There are a lot better the other side of the A10.
However I will agree with oliver1 (or starshine or jollygiant, or youngsie, or bigfanmoris or whatever handle you are going by next), that The Lamb is by far the best pub close to Edmonton Green Station. But thats because the others are dire and they knocked down The Cross Keys many moons ago.

Gann - 18 May 2009 17:11
I agree with RogerB that this place is nothing special, like every other Barracuda pub that I have been into. My pint of Bombardier was poured by an inexperienced barman who, when asked to top it up by the barmaid/manageress, wandered off. There are a couple of plasma screens for the showing of Sky Sports and Setanta and there is also a dartboard towards the rear of the pub.

There was a good lively crowd in during my visit and if I lived locally I would probably go in here to watch the football, but other than that I wouldnt bother.
Strongers - 18 May 2009 15:11
After reading the last review, I have to totally disagree. It sounds like it has been put up by a ex member of staff/managemant who has a bad taste in their mouth, as the review knew to much in regard to the pub background history.
I have to say as a new customer who has been going since the Karaoke/DJ started, I love it. The staff are nice and friendly, the drink and food are reasonably price and the quality is very good.
I did read the reviews and decided to visit, at which I enjoy my firday nights. Anyone reading the last review, the person talks out of their arse and like I said before they have a bitter taste in their mouth because maybe when they worked there it was crap and since they have gone. It has got SO MUCH BETTER.
No one listen to RogerB
oliver1 - 11 May 2009 19:54
I too came here on the back of all the recent bigging up although I had my reservations given that the flurry of recent postings has come from first time (and for the most part, only time) reviewers that have suddenly been drawn to the Lambs supposed charms. Conspiracy theories aside, what we have here is an ex-Wetherspoons that is now a Smith & Jones (Barracuda Group) and the only differences between the current and previous set up would appear to be noise and a dartboard. Everything that one associates with a typical Spoons interior, the dcor, the furnishings, the cheap food/drink even the historical snippets have been retained lock, stock and plastic barrel. The excitement of seeing 10 handpumps soon dissipates when you realise that the clips are 4, yes 4, Bombardiers, 3 Courage Bests, 2 Green King IPAs and (I was tempted to put the Partridge In A Pear Tree gag in here) a slightly more interesting Jennings Cumberland. It could be argued that 4 ales (even across 10 pumps) would be a major plus in this area but actually getting anything out of the pumps was an eventful task on my visit with the first 2 options greeted with a not sure if its on by the bubbly if slightly unknowledgable barmaid. My third choice finally emerged from one of the Courage Best pumps which did at least save me from resorting to the dreaded Green King IPA (presuming it was available). The rest of the beers were the usual standard lagers / kegs but both the food and drink prices were pretty reasonable if that is any consolation. The customers appeared friendly enough though it was a quiet period and much of the peak time ambience would seem to revolve around the usual run of TV footie (2 plasmas and a Big Screen), DJs and Karaoke nights, hardly anything innovative or earth shattering and only of limited appeal to the discerning drinker. Overall, the Lamb appears to have a band of loyal regulars and is fine for the locals who have very little choice in the way of pubs around here in the first place. It certainly wont be the worst place you will ever visit but to me it is at best distinctly average and one shouldnt be tempted here solely by the manipulated ratings and glowing comments from reviewers who currently have little or no track record beyond the Lambs front doors.
RogerB - 20 Apr 2009 14:53
Decided to check this out, after hearing good things about this and I have to say all is true. Good customer service, good beer and a really good time. I love the friendly atmosphere from staff and a good manager. I think everyone should check this out because you will have a really good time.
starshine - 3 Apr 2009 20:56
I have a really good time at this pub. I have to say all the reviews are true on here about this pub. I have been on different days and have to say, I have liked every time. I did visit this pub a while ago and decided to never go back but after reading the reviews on here and listening to various people of how good it was, I decided to give it a second chance and I have to say I was glad I did. I think the choice of manager in this pub, was a very good decision. I think he has turned it around. Before there was no entertainment and nothing going on but now it is on every week now. The manager joins in with the atmosphere and speaks to everyone in the pub, asking how they are and really showing a interest in each customer, which I think is a very good thing in the day and age. All I would say to anyone, 'Go visit a An absolute gem !!!!
jollygiant - 28 Mar 2009 20:28
What a night!! the DJ/karaoke last night. she was fantastic. I thought barmy bob was good but she was amazing. Please, please, please get her back at the lamb on a regular basis. I will def be back if you do. a top pub, good beer and manager and staff are great. A must visit.
youngsie - 14 Mar 2009 21:12
Visited last night, had a really good time. I arrived before the entertainment and it was really good so that was a bonus. I eneded up staying the whole night due to how good it was. I highly recommend to anyone in the area or even if you have to travel, it is worth it.
goodgirlbad - 8 Mar 2009 15:37
Went to watch the football this sunday 1.3.09. I had a really good time. The staff was friendly, the landlord was very welcoming. I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. I had a really, really good time.
bigfanmorris - 3 Mar 2009 11:03
Read the reviews and decided to check it out, I was so impressed. I thought it was really good, thought the customer service was excellent. I thought I would add a review like all the others as it is a really good pub.
bigfan456 - 27 Feb 2009 20:17
Went here last night and have to say it was excellent.. Excellent atmosphere and the price of brooze was excellent. The staff were friendly and excellent customer service and manager was friendly to all customers and introduce himself to everyone and checking everything was ok. A 100% excellent pub.
angelbabe1234 - 24 Jan 2009 09:57
Loving the entertainment on fridays. Good boozer. Service 100%.
spursfan - 21 Jan 2009 08:12
Been going to this pub for a few months now and i have to say I am very impressed. The staff are friendly and helpful and I really like the entertainment. A real good boozer.
tot11 - 14 Jan 2009 14:21
Had a really good evening at this pub. The staff were very friendly and the entertainment was very good. Before I went there, I was only going to stay an hour ended up staying to the end. All I can say is a really good pub, good staff and good entertainment. A must if you are in the area.
total112233 - 13 Jan 2009 18:44
I visited this pub at the beginning of December 2008 and I have to say I was very impressed. I thought their customer service was 100% and I was also impressed how the manager of the pub, himself came over to ask was everything ok and were we happy with everything.. I would recommend this pub if you want good service, friendly atmosphere and trust me that is very rare nowdays.
