Still closed, has been for well over a year, doesn't appear that anyone has shown an interest in the lease either. Any admins, this should be registered as CLOSED
MrBear - 22 Apr 2011 05:22
Walked past and it is boarded up. Not sure what they are going to do with it.
Passing_By - 13 Jun 2010 13:19
I never liked this place... and glad that it is now shut down. What a horrible and manky place to be drinking. I don't rate this one-bit.
nightsmoker - 7 Jun 2010 18:01

Big Pub/Bar Crap beer.
BigAleDrinkhead - 1 Nov 2008 16:16
Generates a strange area. Too big and thus quite empty, quite eerie, background music too loud at times.. Typical drinks range
TheSensiblePubReviewer - 27 Jul 2008 18:57
if you get the right mix of people its a good place to watch the footie as theres plenty of space
viceman - 27 Mar 2008 18:37
Mutiny, which is meant to take place every Sunday didnt take place this week. Maybe next time

But on the pub itself, massive inside. One of the biggest pubs around. Plenty of pool tables and big screens to watch. Drinks range as you'd expect is fairly basic with fairly average prices
aleman - 30 Apr 2007 10:09
Great for cocktails, staff can be a bit up themselves but not too bad, usually meet here before going on somewhere better
Supersupper - 21 Feb 2007 20:55
I have recently just taken over as the new Thursday and Saturday night DJ as the bar is now under new management. They have already made a number of changes to get the bar back to the way we all remember it. Just installed new laser show and club light system including top of the range scanners and smoke machines. We have a number of new drinks deals in place now 1.50 on selected drinks on Thursday nights 2 Cocktails for 5.50 on Saturday nights and various other shot deals for 1. Also for anyone who is interested in Sport they have just got a new 25 foot big screen which is now the biggest in the UK. Why not pop down one Saturday night and see what you think.
DjMarkB - 16 Oct 2006 13:36
This pub has now been taken over by a new company so hopefully they will sort the friday night DJ out, sort the lights out, take the Big Brother banner down, and get it busy again.

The door staff seem pretty good tho, as for it been full of pikey's i think they do a good job of keeping 90% of the crap out. Probably why it's so dead

i used to work at the rat back in 2000 and it was a great place... missed it loads when i moved to york and always wondered what it would be like to go back now but after reading these comments its probably just as well i havent.... hope it can get back to when it was packed and everyone had a good time.

Biggest pike hole in woking, apart of course for Chameleon. I used to drink in there when i was 16/17 and it looks as if they are still letting in people of that age! Full of street rats and chavs. I'd rather drink my own urine than drink in that playschool.
finnigan82 - 26 Jan 2005 13:32
the rat and parrot went downhill as soon as justin took over as manager in feb 2003. he changed the music policy and need i say anymore. its his fault the rat has now become deserted. it was much better when drew was the manager and i was the dj.
robbie - 18 Oct 2004 16:57
rat & parrot used to be an extremeley busy pub with an upstairs bar available fri/sat night. now however, there aren't enough people who go there to warrant upstairs being open. it's a big place but the atmosphere is rubbish due to the lack of customers.
captain - 6 Oct 2004 15:27
New management imported, food & cocktails have all dropped in price, expanded brands of bottles, and spacious. Upstairs for hire on events, and cheapest in town for the size, with an optional buffet. Still not sure about the clientel, but ideas for the future look posotive, but we'll just have to wait and see
anonymous - 20 Sep 2004 20:46
Yeah must agree, the place is going downhill fast....no idea about customer service!
Pete - 5 Sep 2004 20:06
The woking circuit of bars is pretty shameful but this bar is definetly the worst of a sorry bunch. Don't bother going here you will be treated like a second rate citizen and the managers have not got a clue about good service.
Richard - 30 May 2004 00:41
It is terrible - poor and rude service
Bob Murray - 26 Mar 2004 13:56
I have just moved back to woking and couldnt wait to go to my old local( the rat), however when i arrived i was greeted with arrogant doorman. The bar staff seemed to give 100% but overall it wasnt the rat i remember! I think it is rapidly going downhill.
anonymous - 17 Mar 2004 09:30
This has got to be the worst place to go on a good night out. Me and some mates went there, and we're told to leave at like half 9, just after buying our next round. A complete waste of time!
Adam - 16 Mar 2004 02:15
chameleon still the place to be! no denying it, shits all over the rest of the venues in town!
anonymous - 23 Feb 2004 19:03
The place is just a big waste of space. The place closes and opens depending on the managers mood, and is so v.expensive, with no offers on anything, and instead try to prize people off with cheap tacky gifts when you take a mortgage on your rounds! The place houses alright staff, but nothing you can't find in Station/Yates'/Chameleon/Shotz/O'Neils
Food is very good there, but does take forever to get to your table if a few people have ordered before you. Isn't really the atmosphere for the hole you find in your pockets the next day! I'd say 2/10.
Barman_Dan - [email protected] - 11 Feb 2004 03:32
Expensive drinks, warehouse-like atmoshere. If there's more than 10 people in the place the food can take ages to turn up (pity cos the food is OK for pub food). We went in recently for someone's birthday and waited over an hour for our food. It ruined the person's birthday celebration as we were all late back into the office. We asked if we could take the food out in the end - so they gave away their plates with it! Nice staff but it needs to be more effective. Biggest put off is the drinks prices - compared to the other local pubs.
Spunky - [email protected] - 16 Jan 2004 14:06
every single week this bar is full of woking rude-boys, collar up, writing that looks like bird poo on their shirts. music too loud and the same every weekend. durign the week you may be lucky to get some decent old-school hip-hop at a reasonable volume. trying to play pool in here is a joke. someone will no doubt sneak money in ahead of yours and then kick off if you won't play for the table. last week the guy practically started crying after we resisted his tirade of abuse. bouncers really couldn't care less. place has been getting gradually worse for years now.
pub rabbi - 30 Nov 2003 23:42
My first Saturday night looking the place over since my return to Woking. "Oh my GOD!" The place was heaving with customers from 8pm - 1am, with three deep at the bar til 12midnight. I've never seen the place so busy before. The new faces behind the bar seem to have made all the differance, and I found out 1st hand that they do have the staff that are 100% dedicated to their job there and are making the differance. Music was intense, as the whole crowd lifted up to the tunes they all recognised. I stayed til closing, and even at kick out, there we're tonnes of people there. Comments from the punters we're v.posotive, everyone enjoying themselves and really not wanting the night to end! I'm so proud to have been taken on board again with such an excellent atmosphere and team! Just hope I can keep some of my other comments to myself! <soz guys!>
Barman Dan - 17 Nov 2003 01:03
Firstly, this bar has done nothing but go up since the management change people. Takings are higher, selection of drinks is better, music is original.., its all good! Just coz dead-beat Rob <ex-res dj> has a problem with sucking at his job and being given the can, really shouldn't bother you with the annon comments he makes about the place. The chicks are still good looking, and the guys are trying <bless them!> and overall the place is deffinatly worth being at for an all nighter! K.., so the decor is not the greatest.., big whoop.., like you boys and girls really notice that much when you've had a few drinks! Plus all is well.., because I personnaly am making a re-apperance as part of the staff. So bring your cute asses and wallets to the bar on Thursday & Sundays.., and I'll make for you the most kick-butt bunch of multi-coloured liquers you've ever drunk, that you'll be beggin' for more. I'm also now a fully-fledged flair-tender.., and when I get back to my top bar action, be ready for some fiery entertainment with my stunts. <lol.., just kiddin Boss. Maybe!> Seriously though peeps, you want best results from our bar, then just tell us what you think we should be doing, rather than go to the dive that is Chameleon/Quake. See ya around!
Barman Dan - [email protected] - 11 Nov 2003 03:29
Very nice place but needs good entertainment and a proper DJ. Last Saturday was boring and it was cold because back & front doors were open. Besides, I would replace some (not all) arrogant doorman there.
anonymous - 7 Oct 2003 16:55
i have been talking to people about the place and seems that the management aren't as good since the february change over. rumour has it that the manager has handed in his notice cos the boy george night was absolute crap. bring back the old resident dj too who dissapeared back in april. he was wicked and much better than the old pensioner who's doing the music now.
anonymous - 30 Sep 2003 13:37
It's kinda lost the spark it had since management changed. I'd like to see both floors open on weekend nights, the service of food to improve, and more over the bar entertainment for us. The staff seem to change more than our weather, but they always seem enthusiastic! I think Boy George was a bad idea for a good night, and a higher range of cheaper drinks with res.dj would have pulled more money in! Bring back the decent theme nights! and at least advertise it to a town that's got a uni in it, or even on 96.4, because they don't cost v.much to advertise events. Well.., good luck to the pub anyway!
Edward Nigmar - 7 Sep 2003 14:26
BOY GEORGE, NICKY BLACKMARKET, STARLIGHT CREW, AND SUPPORTING ACTS will all be appearing at the Rat this sunday. Its starts at 12 pm and continues until 2 am. It will be a fab day. Tickets are 15 quid for an all day pass. Check it out.
anon - 21 Aug 2003 20:14
I dont agree with that comment about the boss at the rat, or about chameleon being the top venu in woking, cos the rat wins hands down! I am in there most days and have experienced the atmosphere both at lunchtime and in the evening. the dj is good, the staff are really friendly and the food is good. I also understand that on the 24th august they are having a 14 hour dj marathon and bbq to include BOY GEORGE and the starlight crew. I have also hurd rumours of other top nights coming up, so i will be keeping an eye out for them. It seems that the new management are not afraid to spend money on making the pub better. Keep up the good work.
vibes - 20 Jul 2003 19:04
Top pub, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Went down on Monday night and got free drinks for rolling a six on a giant dice! It's called Toss the Boss and made Monday a decent night to go out. Pop down and have a look!
anonymous - 3 Jul 2003 13:49

Sexy_Girl - 17 Jun 2003 15:52
great place to meet good looking girls and can i please have my photo back that the bird took of me because i know its not for a project. thanks
neil - 1 Jun 2003 17:50
I've just spent the best part of 9 months there, I'm the good looking barman that works upstairs on fri and sat nights, (not the stupid Aussie one!), and does the flare for the customers. Sadly, this'll be my last week + casino night (don't miss it!), and I've got to move on to higher paid things. The bar staff there are the best in town, and the music's bearable! (only kiddin' steve!) Doorman are a great bunch, and I'm gonna miss working with everyone! So to all my fans, have a good one!!
Barman DAN - [email protected] - 25 May 2003 03:20
There is going to be a Casino night at the Rat on Friday 6th June with gaming tables and a Human Roulette Wheel. Gambling vouchers, exchangable for chips on the night, are on sale behind the bar soon. Prizes are on offer for the most chips won by the end of the night. 1st Prize - DVD Player, 2nd Prize - MP3 Player, 3rd Prize - CD Walkman. Come on down and try your luck.

toxic_godfather - 4 May 2003 18:01
I love the rat and parrot music is good and the size is nice particulary liked the wild west night on the 4 apr the buckin bronco was hilarious wen ur wrecked best place to go b4 chameleon and quake!!
anonymous - 23 Apr 2003 16:17
i used to be the dj until tonight, the new manager let me go because he said i wasn't playing the right music. i had been there alot longer than him and i hope his new ideas fall on their arse. i had nothing but compliments from the punters saying how good my dj'ing was. well i'm going back to the number one venue which is chameleon. so all of you who know me from the woking rat and parrot, watch out for me in chameleon.
robbie f - 5 Apr 2003 02:23
This is a great pub, big venue with good looking girls and boys and cute male bartenders!

Large variety of drinks and is open late from friday and saturday nights.

Jessica - 7 Mar 2003 12:35
The pub has a great ambiance and is not small which gives the public a very enjoyable experience every time.
