user reviews of Edwards, Chelmsford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I did visit Edwards this Christmas, it was quite busy during the lunch and did really enjoyed the burger i had. The service was pretty quick too!

But have to say -they have to do something about their floor, its falling apart!!!

We used to go there on Saturday nights and its fairly older crowd (than Fridays) with a 50/50 mix of male & females and good music..
I havent been out in Chelmsford for a long time though, after years of doing the square and a few others it gets a bit samey..

Visited this pub a few days ago and had a reasonably priced good meal. I was unimpressed, though, by the general standard of cleanliness of the place.
The menu holder was dirty and the table we sat at had not been cleaned in a while. The cutlery had obviously been in a dishwasher and it hadn't done the job properly because there was dried food on it. I visited the toilets, which had not been cleaned in a long time. This was evident from the lack of toilet paper in all but one of the cubicles and they just seemed unkempt.
The whole place in all honesty needed a good clean but I have no complaints about the service or food.

Have visited this venue many times in seven months so far.
Bar staff are good but under pressure to serve quick!
Venue has two floors main at ground level second smaller up stairs no lift?
Get's very hot inside, too hot for some!!
Food not very good, best eat elsewhere...
The security guard's are ok but never seem to see the same ones the next week?
up stairs smells and could be better cleaned..
overall a good vibe from people of mostly young ages.
manager has a bad attitude as i'm often told to keep clear of him??

agree with the guy below! this place is dreadful. that whole "square" area is a disgrace though.

full of tanked up gypos cruising around being arrogant and rude. Man, I sound like an old fart, but I'm only 26! Maybe I just don't enjoy that type of behaviour

I tend to steer clear and take my business elsewhere (usually out of chelmsford)

They say the British like to queue and boy, were they right. Why is it that we Brits crowd into these kind of places until they are so full that our prospects of ever getting a drink, having a conversation or even crossing the room to spend a penny are seriously impeded? These days, entering an Edwards on a Friday night seems to me about as pleasurable as taking a crowded commuter train into London on a weekday morning.

You can say that under 25's like this kind of atmosphere, but to be frank that's a bit patronising, and I am not even sure that they really do. It wasn't that long ago that I was one of those under 25's myself and I can't recall actually enjoying Edwards style bars all that much. I know you are supposed to and everyone says they do, but I dunno.

Sure, they're OK for a bit of girl watching, but the queuing, the provocation and intimidation from the door staff, the standing, the noise, the lack of ability to get a drink, the pressure to pull a bird and the probability that you won't, the constant hovering threat that some pissed up lout will smack you in the mouth for looking at him in the wrong way, it isn't much fun being young and hip.

These comments probably apply to every Edwards I have ever been in. So, what about Edwards Chelmsford? I hear you say. Well, it's an Edwards, same wherevener you go. Loud music, bland lager, bar staff keen but worked like galley slaves, open plan, split levels, shiny surfaces, vaguely stale smell masked by a cacophony of aftershave, unlikely to get a seat, bit of a patio area at the front which is nice in the summer if you can get a seat (unlikely).

I can only really find reasons to give it a couple of marks; a) the staff work hard and b) I quite like the patio area at the front. Other than that, not my cup of tea at all.

2/10

Complete beer factory with deafening music and Essex blokes in Ben Sherman shirts trying to chat up the women, not helped by the fact their ears are bleeding cos the music is so loud and it is so packed you cant move. Oh to be 18 again and enjoy hell-holes like this.

This is a perfect place for the young, perfect for the old trying to be young, and prefect for the chavs. BUT it does play good music, it is greatly decorated, and I think Pumpermuncher has obviously seriously had it with Chelmsford with reviews like that. Chill out, pubs and bars are the same world over......always gonna get dodgy clientele!

Went here last night, not bad, but not brilliant, only had one and decided to leave, only got lager on tap from what i saw, and even that tasted similar to dishwater, but not bad for women.

Good if you get in early. Can take a age to get served if you get in after 9.30. Generally good music and quite a bit of talent, however you get the impression that the ladies know they are a attractive too!

Packed and much like a cattle market. Good if you like that sort of thing I guess.
