I went here the other day and to my suprise I found myself walking into what looked like a wooden board! 'Pants!, I thought' They have not just closed the place down!!
Not coming here again, its the worst boozer I have ever been to :-(

This appears to have closed, along with the nearby Slug and Lettuce, as they appear to be demolishing this block.

solid boozer populated mainly by traine city types and builders. one to start but never finish an evening in. good for sport, warm summer evenings and a game of pool avoid if your on the hunt though its usually a male only place

Wicked place unless your some sort of stuck up nonse....needs an update on pub games for saddos like me and the Legend

Typo' - meant "gaming", obviously.
TheLegend - 25 Apr 2007 16:58
Great place but they need more gameing machines - used to have a great variety but recently depleted. Friendly staff and good place to hang out after work and enjoy a pint or two.

On a side point, what's the deal with the "slip ons"?
TheLegend - 25 Apr 2007 16:53
Not that many places round the city have pool tables any more - something to recomend the Deacon in not just one, but 5! Just note this is a 'mere' 1.50 a pot.

Apart from the pool tables, it does not really have many redeeming features. I could mention the beer, but will not, as the draft (london pride) was off, as they had run out. This does rather tell you something about the place. The other selection of keg beers were drinkable (to which we did make a good attempt on working our way thru!)

It is really a sports-bar style of pub with the LCD screens showing sky everywhere rather than one for meeting people for a great social night out.

I once saw a recruitment consultant trying to conduct an interview on one of the tables outside whilst there was football on. What a dick. Firstly, watch the footie. Secondly, don't try to impress people by taking them to Deacons. Loser.
The other time I was here (also while football was on)my mate spilt his pint on my trousers and I had to dry them with the hand dryer in the loos. People were generally very supportive of the fact i was loitering in the loos wearing only boxer shorts.
So in summary. Erm. Come here. Watch football. Bosh.

Has always been a bit rough - I remember when it was full of LIFFE traders. If you want a cheap pint, come here - and can be nice(ish) in the summer when you stand outside, but as MrLash says - nondescript.

this really is one vile cesspit. never mind being threatened in there for wearing a suit -- i've been threatened for wearing a shirt. a no-go if you're wearing slip-on shoes

(Apologies. I have developed a sudden aversion for punctuation.)

Worst pub in the City, bar none. I would rather drink in the P&P on Bishopgate than in here. And believe me, that is saying something.

Good for a cheap pint away from all the city preening parlours. Congrats to Joey the owner.

Cheap as hell (round the 2 quid mark as I recall). Lots of screens so good for sport (including screens in the windows so passing pikeys too cheap to buy a drink can watch too). Pretty nondescript other than that.

Good for a crafty few strong continental lagers before going on to whatever shit event it is you need to sharpen up for.

Good for a lash up with the lads / colleagues.

Good for watching sport at.

Not too pricey.

Pool tables downstairs, and that golf game with the ball thing that gets more fun the more pints of Stella you have had.

Much preferable in my opinion to the overpriced and over - poncy Slug and Lettuce or whatever it is a few doors away. Avoid that like the plague is my advice, poxy hole.

Not a bad place, has an upstairs and downstairs to allow two different sporting events to be shown at the same time. Decent food upstairs and five pool tables and a fussball table downstairs. Not the largest but can hold quite a few people and I've enjoyed many a pleasurable evening down here. 7/10
