As Millay comments it does look a bit bland from the outside. But what a gem once you are inside. The interior is just wonderful with the tiles and mirrors and high ceiling. I just sat there with my pint gazing around the bar drinking in the surroundings. It is a basic drinking house but it just oozes history and atmosphere. There are not many pubs like this left anymore and that is a great pity. The only negative comment I have is to ask whether it is really necessary to cover up some of the lovely tilework with gaudy Carling posters and adverts for the pub raffle. If you are in Edinburgh and you enjoy traditional drinking pubs do not on any account overlook this one.

Despite it looking a bit bland outside, this pub has an attractive interior. The walls are almost fully tiled with a decorative frieze, mirrors and some large sporting themed murals. He stained glass in the windows mentioned John Doig which may indicate an alternative or previous name. No cask beer available, two TVs showing racing. A fairly down to earth clientele of whom I felt the staff were a little wary. An over 25s rule is in place but that didnt pose much of a challenge to those of us in there.

This is a great place to lose a few hours. Has not been modernised and is the better for it. Decent prices and amusing locals.

The Boundary Bar has now changed its name to The City Limits and is well worth a visit!

Is this the best pub in Scotland?

What drinking should be about.

Errmm...that last post about the border being on th floor?? Someone is having us on! The actual pub that sat on the border was further up the Walk, and was known as the Boundary Bar.

Ovaooo!!! What a pub! Especially in the mornings! Great features, nothing has changed for a long time. You can also see the border between Edinburgh and Leith on the floor.
