Very well priced pub for the South Bank and good location. Pleasant environment for after work drinks at least.

Great post work watering hole.

Especially good for the pizzas, the Peroni and when the football is on.

Nice relaxing atmosphere and interesting decor.

John Bonser is right that this place is difficult to sum up.
The decor is suffering from a botched refurb a couple of years, although various minor changes have been made to improve the ambiance. Most importantly the horrible lighting has been fixed.

However, by far the most important development is the massive improvement in beer quality in the last few months. Harvey's Best plus usually 2 guest beers, mainly from well known Micros.

The lunchtime food is reasonable and good value for the area. Unfortunately evening food is limited to uninspiring pizzas.

The clientele is mainly local office workers (including me), so feels a bit transient but the staff is generally friendly and efficient.

Not my favourite pub in SE1 by any means but probably the one that has improved the most this year!

Odd place - difficult to sum up in a single short visit. Feels a bit more like a bar than a pub, but interestingly on Saturday afternoon, there were only a few locals watching the horse racing. I dont like the funny looking lights. The Harveys was OK, but I was distinctly underwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the staff. There's an interesting tiled mural by the door on the right as you go in - unlike at The Shipwrights in Tooley Street, I suspect this one's not original. I think there's better places in the area than this

Was able to have my St.Patrick's Day Guinness here, sadly with a Tia Maria in it, that's the way I like it. Since the recent change of management there are now two guest beers on, not the sort of thing for scoopers, but fine for normal ale drinkers. Give this place a try, quite friendly. Thence to the Wenlock.

Decided to have lunch here as the fodd was alwys good and the atmosphere friendly.

hmmm, change of management change of attitude and atmosphere. Arrived at 1, 20 minutes later got served (3 people behind the bar), got my drinks and ordered food for 2 from the 'lite bites'. The food arrived 10 mintues at most before I had to be back at work (thank heavens I didn't order a 'proper' meal!)

The question I ask myself; if this is the service on a normal lunchtime, how on earth are they going to cope with a Friday at the end of the month?

The pub is not the same anymore after the nice young Kiwi chap has gone and taken over by an Irish lady (not sure if she knows what she's doing..), I was looking forward to the Friday full swing party mode, but it was very quiet. However, the beer is great.

Intereting place! Really friendly staff and the manager (Tony?) seems really enthusiastic about his place and his punters...always a good sign. Not sure about the decor - but liked the "booth" style seating!

Place has a bit of 'plastic decor' happening and doesn't feel very welcoming. That is until you meet the staff. They are lovely friendly people and will always chat with you. Beer is great, but the food needs a bit of work.

I have always known the Paper Moon to be a rather quiet bar, stylish but not much going on. I happened to pass the Bar 7pm on Friday and it was in full swing party mode. It appears a rather nice young Kiwi chap has taken over and is intent on ensuring all customers have a bloody good time. I know I did as I ended up staying until 11pm.
This bar is now a breath of fresh air and I am looking forward to my next visit

paper moon? more like blue moon. Blue moon, you saw me standin' alone
Without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me sayin' a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

That's for you SG, the twinkliest star behind any bar in SE1. with love

Far from being "only a paper moon", this is one of the finest pubs in London. The staff are first rate and the beer excellent. The bar staff are happy to share anecdotes of their colorful lives and like nothing better than to hear about you and your day

the best pizzas this side of Napoli
