... top pub with a great atmosphere. The landlord and all staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. The pub quizzes held here every sunday is a big draw and def worth joining in. The Cambridge Arms has been my local for nearly 10 years and I can honestly say it's the best local pub I've been to and every visit never disappoints. If you're thinking of coming in for the first time it's well worth a visit.

Had Sunday lunch in here (9th October) and very nice it was too.I had Pork & my partner had the Beef and both were excellent.It is a very 'gastro-ish' pub,TWG is correct in saying this style of pub is very common in the South-East. The London Pride was the best i had had in a long time (and i live in London and drink a lot of Pride).There were loads of children in here-if you don't like children i would recommend not venturing in here on a Sunday lunch.

Really good pub, and excellent beer especially the Honeydew! Our only gripe would be that whilst the food is very high quality, the menu is small enough to need to be refreshed a little more often.

Never before bothered to try this place, but on its appearance in the 2010 GBG and other positive accounts I sallied forth last week. I found the fairly standardised Fullers template so frequently found in London had been applied here, but in truth there is nothing wrong it that and it didn't jar. The selection of beer was reasonable - happily Fullers are finally waking up to the fact that their customers sometimes need to enjoy beer beyond their own portfolio however well-cellared it is (and it is here) - and from what little I observed food seemed popular. Various family types were in owing to it being half-term, but they didn't intrude on the quiet quaffing of the over-18ers.
Met Paul, the manager, who was most attentive and seems to be a conscientious custodian of his bar - his response below is perhaps indicative of his genuine interest in customer service which one can never take for granted in pubs nowadays.
Nothing out of the ordinary for me in the South-East, but in Bristol it isn't quite so common and I imagine this is now a justifiably popular haunt for those living locally. Well done.

Paul, thank you very much for your explanation! Maybe I was a bit harsh too at the time and apologise if my comments came across that way. It's just that ESB is so hard to come by in this part of the country and when you enjoy it as much as I do it's great to be able to visit your pub to imbibe, I will say it is always served in superb condition too at the Cambridge so praise & due credit for that as it's not always that way elswhere.

In response to recent comments by MisterX, I would like to defend The Cambridge Arms. I am the manager of this establishment and I would like to apologise for the lack of ESB but also to explain why?
With regards to other beers i.e. Butcombe, London Pride & Discovery, we have 2 lines for each so when one barrel goes the other is ready to pull through. The ESB and the regularly changing guest ale only have one. The ESB is a slow seller and we can regularly ullage 3-4 gallons a week as I will remove it from sale after 5 days in order to maintain its optimum quality. Then the line has to be cleaned in order that the next barrel is of the highest standard. Sometimes during busy periods this is impractical and I am sorry if it causes inconvenience. I aim to serve the highest quality beer at all times and hope my customers understand the effort I go to in order to make this available. Getting a wee bit fed up with this pub and the management's poor attitude regarding the changing of ales when one runs out.
Several recent visits the ESB has either been off or finished on busy Friday & Saturday evenings and despite one promise of changing the barrel this has not happened even though I was assured there was another ready to tap. Now, if this had been on a quiet Monday then fair enough - they had no problems changing the Butcombe on my last visit when guess what? Yep, the ESB was off yet again despite the pump clip not being turned around to indicate it was yet again off. Pfffffffffffftttttttt, poor show and marked down accordingly!

Great pub, great beer, great food.....definitely the best in the area.
And the beer garden in the summer is THE place to go.
Cracking Sunday roast too. Top marks.

First visit to this pub. Very clean and tidy, welcoming atmosphere with a good mix of clientele. Beer is Fullers range with Butcombe as the guest ale, we had Discovery which although only 3.9% was very tasty especially after an excellent pint of Golden Hare (4.4%) at The Wellington. Will visit here again in the summer to see what the garden etc is like.

Still good, great ESB, Pride & Discovery. But have to mark it down one purely on the landlord's stone faced, unwelcoming nature.

Went in on a busy Friday and the service was good. Quite pricey but then that was expected in this part of town. Was drinking ESB and Discovery, both of which were excellent.

Only pub I know of in the area that serves a decent pint of ESB. Worth going to just for that in my book.
Nice large garden at rear, all beer is well kept, staff very friendly and good at their jobs, menu a bit poncy and ott on price though. Oh for the old day's when one could (simply have the choice to..) buy a mere pork pie at lunchtime instead of feeling as though they have just been mugged after checking their wallet contents post pub visit after lunch.

This used to be a cosy local untill Fullers blagged it. Its now gone a bit trendy with the place crawling with 'Posh' Bristol Uni students. Grub is'nt too bad and the beer is consistently good, but I cant think of any good reason to come up here unless you happen to be in the locality.

A nice old pub with a traditional feel. They serve fantastic Fullers ales, which is rare for the West. Staff are friendly. There are TVs, but thankfully the staff rarely have them switched on.
