2nd pub of the day, a short walk after football back towards town and I arrive at this back street Fuller's pub. Plenty of seating to the front with almost every seat being taken, inside it was equally as busy but a lot cooler. Hops hang above the bar, apparently these are replaced once a year and give off an amazing aroma once fresh...I didn't experience this!

Another attractive pub internally, the walls are decorated with repro advertising signs (why not buy original?) and one wall has a lot of framed local newspaper clippings.

The area past the bar is an addition and has a glass roof resembling a conservatory. On the bar are 6 hand pumps offering 5 Fullers ales and a guest from Long Man Brewery in Sussex. I had a very decent pint of Fuller's Seafarers.

Wooden flooring and furniture , interesting locals, large open fireplace, decent ales & another decent pub tick.

An acceptable pub with Fullers beers - but a bit scruffy inside, the only table we could find being in the pool room. Hard to fault this pub but when there are places like the Nelson and the Lamb in Farnham it has very stiff competition.

Beer here is expensive, but it is not subsidised as in most pubs by fruit machines, juke box or pool table. It's a lovely, quiet pub where you can enjoy a chat. The roaring log fire in winter is great (as long as you don't sit too close and get toasted on one side). Beers are London Pride, Chiswick and ESB, plus a Fuller's seasonal ale or an independent brewer's ale from their guest list. Beer is usually in pretty good form. Occasionally the staff could be a bit more active in toning down the language from one loud, female regular. The back room is a little cool and less welcoming but is useful for large groups of people.

Good pub, 3 beers on I think... All were fine. Fire was nice, bar staff all polite and friendly. Defo worth another visit, I can imagine this place would be heaving in the Summer!

The original and still the best is the only way to summaries this little piece of pub heaven. Traditional down to the bone, serving the best kept pint of London Pride Ive ever supped. The locals can be a little cliquey sometimes but the bar staff are always very friendly. This place is a shining example of how pubs are supposed to be; warm, inviting, friendly and beer that is kept in top condition. Food is a little pricy but I just come here for the ale.

We've used this pub for more years than I care to remember. It never disappoints, warm and hospitable, good beer, log fires when you need them. Reasonably priced bar food. A good British pub with no pretentious.
RealMum - 26 Feb 2012 07:55
This is a consistently reliable pub in Farnham. Dog friendly, real fires and a proper pub.

I love it but I must admit it's quite expensive drinking. Then again it's Fullers and that brewery seems to have forgotten that economic times are hard! They pressurise landlords to push up prices and don't listen to anyone who says otherwise. It's not much cheaper at the Queens Head on The Borough which is another Fullers boozer. Still one on the best pubs in town.

Pleasant little Fullers pub, though the Chiswick was poor and some of the cutomers loud and boorish (haven't heard as many f-words in all the pubs in Wigan I've been in together)
mtaylor40 - 9 Jul 2011 12:55
yeah sure its a great little pub but strewth, the prices! How can anyone justify 3.90 for a pint of bitter. If this is the future I'm going to have to get a new hobby

Called in early on sunday lunchtime, as mentioned before the Hop Blossom is a very good traditional pub tucked away from the main street giving it a relaxed feel. A few locals of varying age groups were present giving the bar a bit of life without being to lively. Six handpumps were all in use, this is a Fullers pub so most of their usual range was available, the one guest beer was Joseph Holt ipa.,this was my choice as Fullers isn't my favourite, it arrived in good condition and a full pint to boot, always a good sign. This pub is well worth seeking out if in Farnham

A lovely pub tucked away on a side street,

Classic town pub. Good beer , unspoilt interior and friendly staff. If only more pubs were like this and not full of wide screen TVs, fruitmachines and young bar staff all wearing the same black shirts.

Called in sunday afternoon for the first time in many years. Tucked away down a pedestrian alleyway, at one time a narrow road, away from the traffic it has the feel of years gone by, especialy with the lack of any air traffic above due to the volcanic ash, just blue sky, very serene. There was only a couple of people inside,a few more enjoying the late afternoon sun outside. Its a traditional L shaped bar with bare wood floors, this runs into a conservatory type extension and then beyond that a seperate lounge room with leather clad sofas ect. Some pubs have no atmosphere, some need a few people to get it going, this place felt good although almost empty. A Fullers house (not a great fan) it had the full range although there didnt appear to have any Gales. I had a pint of chiswick which was ok. Their guest ale was their own London porter, of which i am a fan, so i had to treat myself to a half, it wasnt the very best ive had, if i was being over critical maybe a degree to cold, but good all the same. I like this pub and will revisit soon.

I went here with a bunch of friends on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time. They do a nice selection of pints and bitters, the place has a very cosy bar and the staff are a credit to the proprietor as they're intelligent, dilligent and very friendly - we liked them alot.

All ten of us ate there and the food was top notch classic British home cooking. Ham and eggs, Irish strew, roast beef, roast lamb and magnificent veg too. The service was very good and if I had only one grumble, the back room was a litle bit cold, but that's nothing.

The bill came to about 110 for all the mains and a coffee and a pint each which for us Londoners is technically theft (ask a duty solicitor!), so why they didn't call Her Majesty's finest down to have a sort out, I'll never know. This pub has winner stamped all over it.

I literally love this pub, it is the best place around by miles.
It has a great atmosphere, with friendly witty bar staff, a great fire in the winter, an open conservatory in the summer, a back function room beautifuly decorated.
Recent lunchtime food with the new Chef who has worked in the savoy and under Gordon Ramsay is fantastic, always lovely fresh specials. Sunday lunch is very good value and beautifully executed.
Great pint of Pride, even better pint of Guinness.
It gets busy on weekend evenings but thats a great buzz- its a great night out.
Best New Years eve i've ever had was 2008/9 in the Hop!

charlesbasham - 27 Feb 2009 11:25
One of the best pubs in town. Being a Fullers pub there is the usual selection of ales on tap and the London Pride is spot on. The only downside is that it can get very busy and there never seems to be enough bar staff on. Worth a visit if you can fit in!
getmeonein - 17 Feb 2009 13:44
Few pints with some mates on a Friday evening, we were all on Pride which was excellent. A little crowded but didn't seem to hamper the good service.
PESMITH - 9 Dec 2008 10:40
good little pub, beer in good nick (and im generally not a fullers fan) guest beers are good and are often from the proper half of the country. Great after work crowd, especially in summer. One of the best in the town.

I note that Debbie's rave review was almost four years ago - a long time in the history of a pub serving food. Is Paul the "head chef" still there in this little pub in a back alley in Farnham?
A fortnight ago, a friend and I tried the pub after a pleasant round of golf at the nine hole course at the top of Castle Street. I'm on a low carb diet and asked the pleasant mature lady behind the bar if I could have, basically, a fry up: sausage, bacon, egg and tomatoes, without bread or chips.
No problem. My friend and I enjoyed the same dish.
We returned a week later. A teenager behind the bar.
We requested the same lunch. Sorry, but "chef" only does what is on the menu. Aforesaid items can only be seved in a sandwich. Apologetic teenager apologises, but says she has to do as the chef tells her.
OK, I say; we'll have one of the "specials", which is chicken curry.
Back comes the hapless lass. Very sorry, but we've only got one curry left. (To put into the microwave by the "head chef"?)
My companion had the curry and I had a spaghetti bol, the only other "special".
Does this pub have a policy? A mission statement? A grain of common sense?
Any establishment providing food should be constantly thinking: how can I be of service to my customers?
Without mature guidance, the Hop Blossum seems to opt for what is convenient for the pub.

Excellent. Still retains some of that old-fashioned pub atmosphere. Best draught London Pride I've ever tasted. Good range of other Fuller's on draught plus a guest ale.
No music (except live - and not too often thankfully), no video-games or other distractions.
Great roaring fire. Amusing odd-ball regulars.
If there is a fault, I'd say the food can be a bit hit and miss (and only served at lunch time), but then that could be said for most of the restaurants in Farnham too!
farnham_dandy - 10 Jan 2008 14:00
Just moved to area & discovered this place. Beer in excellent condition. A really friendly pub. Packed on the Saturday we were there - great live music too. Will struggle to find a better pub, I reckon.

Probably one of the best pubs in Farnham if not the best. Excellent selection of beers and lagers. Friendly staff, cosy atmosphere (especially in the winter). Great boozer!
jraclarke - 9 Nov 2007 12:18
Its not complicated is it. Good beer, good atmosphere. Pleasant staff in a cosy building. Only down side is it can get TOO busy...
BobBoiston - 22 Oct 2007 20:36
Great pub, great beer. If they ever start doing food the other pubs in farnham are in big trouble.

Very good Fullers pub. Never seems to have cracked the food issue though. Beer is well kept and a good atmosphere. Recommended.
misfithound - 8 Mar 2006 17:46
This is one of the better pubs in Farnham. I always make an effort to visit this place when I fancy a drink.
yorts - 17 Feb 2006 14:59
Closes at 14:30 on a weekday - so you may not find out how good it is..............we didn't. Which is a shame as we had walked a long way. Third pub in our "crawl" of Farnham.
Renfield - 30 Dec 2005 12:24
good food, good beer, good atmosphere.

A busy and friendly local in a central yet quiet location. Excellent London Pride. Extensive food menu served in the bar, pleasant conservatory and rear dining room.
MarkC - 27 Jun 2005 11:17

The Hop Blossom is not far from Farnham town centre and yet its quiet location has the feel of being miles away from any busy areas. Built in the 18th century, the attractive hostelry has a long history of serving fine ales and tasty food to the locals and in recent years has become well known to visitors to the area as well. The main bar areas are cosy and compact with oak floors combined with open log fires adding to the traditional feel. A more recent addition is the new conservatory which is enhanced with plants and pots providing a quiet haven in which to enjoy your drink or a meal.

The pub enjoys a fine reputation for serving fine food, which is not surprising when you learn that the owner, Jim McDonald-Good, a fully qualified chef, works closely with Paul the Head Chef. Together they create a superb selection of refined and inventive dishes, all freshly prepared and cooked to order. Food is available midday until 2.30pm and from 7pm until 10.30pm in the evening, Monday to Friday. On Saturday food is available all day whilst on Sundays food is only served at lunchtime. With over 70 covers in all, there is usually room to be found, and although everything looks and sounds delicious, the home-made curries are especially highly recommended.
