please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We've been going to The Three Frogs as a family for a number of years and have always treated it as our local and somewhere to go with family and friends. We've even been on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve for a drink the last couple of years. However, our last visit to the pub with our 13 year old son and our friends with their 5 year old girl (who is very well behaved) we were told that we weren't allowed to be in the bar with the children after 6pm and this does mean they have to be over 18!!!. We had no choice but to sit in the restaurant which meant we had to wait for table service and it just wasn't what we were thinking of when we decided to go for a drink at the end of the week. It was only 6.30pm which I thought was very unreasonable - 9pm I wouldn't have a problem with! We found out this decision was made by the manager due to one or two families in one night with unruly children. I think this is a poor decision on the managers part as the pub is in a location surrounded by families. The families with unruly children should have been approached instead of penalising all families! We used to go there a lot to eat but I am not prepared to go there anymore and part with my money for food while they have this rule. I will be writing to Head Office. No complaints with regards to the waiters, waitresses and food, service has always been great. So such a shame :-(

Have been to this pub a few times now, and always had decent service, until the penultimate visit.

On this said visit, the pub was about 50% full. We decided to sit at a nice table with some 'seats' rather than chairs, however, this table hadn't been cleaned. It had been empty for at least 5-10 minutes (whilst we stood at the bar) and I quite expected by that time, for someone to have come out and cleaned up the disgusting mess left by the last people!

We decided to go and sit there, whilst dodging past the burgers chucked on the floor, spilt beans on the table, salt scattered all over the table, lack of menus, no cutlery etc and chose what we wanted. After returning to the bar, I specifically made a point of asking if the table could be cleaned, to which the barmaid replied she'd get someone to clean it.

After sitting back down, around 10 minutes later, still the table was uncleaned. I decided to pop to the bar again (knowing the food would soon be delivered) to ask if it could be wiped down at least. I don't think is an unreasonable request? There was both another barmaid, and a barman at the bar; the woman I spoke to turned to the barman and asked him to do it, to which he replied: "I'll be serving drinks in a minute...?" and the barmaid was then asked to clean it. After being told she'd come and clean it ASAP, 10 minutes later it still wasn't cleaned, yet our food was brought out.

I highlighted the fact we'd asked for the table to be wiped over TWICE, to which he replied 'one second...' and dumps the food down on the table. He comes back with just a dirty cloth, and wiped over the OPPOSITE side of the table to where we were sat. It really was laughable and an absolute disgrace!

Reluctantly, I paid the bill, but had every intention of contacting Head Office about this matter; I do not believe in getting sub-standard service, and no customer should be chasing employees of a pub to provide NECESSARY service!

I decided to complain to Head Office; Greene King sent a letter apologising, and explained that if we returned and took the letter, an employee at the pub would deduct 20 from our bill. Again reluctantly, we returned and had another meal (I kept the letter secret until paying - I didn't want someone spitting in my salad!)

By chance we had the pub manager serving us when I went to pay the bill. The manager was MORE than reasonable, and a really nice guy it appears. He scraped the entire bill, not just 20 as previously promised, however, I'm in no way inclined to return to this pub again, which is a pity, because it's a lovely pub, with a nice seated area (sofas etc) out the back, and really cosy on a cold day!

We dined at The Three Frogs today and the staff are so friendly and welcoming! The place is very clean and the toilets extremely up-to-date. We both had the gammon which (as always) was tender and tasty - the chips were cooked perfectly. I had sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream ice cream (oh the ice cream was SO good) and my partner had fruit crumble with the ice cream. At 3.25 for a pud they were so worth it! The whole meal was very good.

The beers were actually OSH and Ruddles County. Not that means a vast amount with a GK pub mind you.

No longer a Hungry Horse, just a general Greene King outlet. The inside has been scrubbed up and seems a lot better for it. 2 ales on - OSH and IPA - 2.80 p/p ale condition fair. Decent outside garden with brilliantly spongy astroturf. Tea/coffee available.

Never going to a 'must-visit' but has certainly improved a bit.

Hey, wanted to treat my mum to a meal for Mothers Day, Gee, should have gone somewhere else. They are both sunday roast fans, both elderly, but neither had the strength to cut through the beef, when asked if everything was ok, we stressed that it wasnt, we were advised that chef would replace the meat, which he did, only this was actually worse. Another younger waitress came and asked if it was ok? we explained our plight, and she replied, "your not the first to complain!" The staff were exceptionally good, but Never again, the experience has put me off, for good.

As stated below, refurbished and is now a completely different pub, there is a good selection of food and small beer selection. The staff are polite and attentive.

The look/feel is now modern but retaining some character, a good pub, well worth visiting.

Happened to pop in there when staying nearby and was honestly one of the nicest pubs I've been in.

Fantastic staff, really friendly, a really good food menu (all freshly done) and even a decent singer on a Saturday night covering KT Tunstall/Amy Winehouse etc songs. Nice decor, smart without being souless like many bars.

Totally recommend.

The Three Frogs is about to have a complete refurbishment. Good news as it is definitely looking very worn now.

Typical Hungry Horse, cheap food and cheap quality.
About time the whole brand was re-invented

Looks nice from the outside, but in reality this is just another low-grade Greed King Hungry Horse outlet.

Only two beers on (IPA and a Belhaven, 6 Nations) which were OK, no great shakes.

Inside was pretty dark and dingy, clientele mainly scummy mummies and their offspring when I went in, along with a couple of lonely old men.

Could actually be quite a nice place with a bit of effort but in its current incarnation, avoid.

Cheap and cheerful. Nice enough as a pub. Have paid more for meals I've liked a lot less.

Cheap food, reasonable booze on tap and a general feelgood atmosphere - bit OTT with the sport flags but apart from that a damn fine pub. Top banana.

Food cheap and ok, not quite as generous a serving as they lead you to believe.Busy Sunday early evening when visited told the Ladies toilets could do with a clean.
