A friendly pub with decent grub. Gets very busy during the cricket festival. There is a big screen which shows sporting events (well there was when I last went (2006), so I assume it's still there).

Seaside location. Cheerful barmaid. Two real ales were on when I visited: Old Speckled Hen (which I had) and Tetley's. Quiet in the morning.

Great food, stunning views when function rooms open.
In summer season it's a good family place as they have kids disco etc...
Highly recommended

Relatively modern buiding resembling a sports or social club more than a "pub". I popped in for a swift half of Deuchars IPA, which was in excellent condition, on a relatively quiet Saturday afternoon. Directly opposite the best known outground on the County Cricket circuit and a great sea view from out the back.

oct 2005 review of the cricketers i am a regular at the pub which has new management since august the pub is clean and friendly and serves delicous home cooked food every day.The highpoint of place mentioned is alovely seaview function room which is well used for private parties, and is used every sunday for a carvery which i would say is the best in town.

CAMRA recommended pub away from the town centre. A very scruffy and well worn Northern working man's club type of place. Attracts drunks, scroungers and Andy Caps of all ages. Piss on the floor and nobody would care or notice. The room with a view that is the highpoint of the place appears to be closed most of the time.
