Same choice of beers as there were three years ago.
Slight improvement with the food.
Still one of the better pubs in Looe.
Agree with addlened, a brighten up would not go amiss.

Family pub and busy but you can usually find a table. St Austell beers well kept but general feel was that it is a bit tired and could do with a makeover.

Can get very busy in the holiday season (which is normally a positive sign).
HSD, Trelawny and Tribute for choice of ales - always in good condition.
My steak and trimmings could have been served a lot hotter.
The "grilled" tomato was virtually raw.

Bigger than it looks from the outside but felt a little dissapointed once in.
The pub felt like it should be in the centre of Newquay or somewhere like that as it felt a bit stag do ish when we visited.
Good range of ales though best in Looe i think.
A bit strange on the pricing stucture of drinks though, £3.80 for a pint of Carlsberg and then £2.90 for a 250ml glass of wine!
Definatly on the Looe circuit of pubs for a night out but not really worth going out your way for.

Spacious pub but dimly lit inside - like a W'spoons.
Beer in good condition: HSD, Proper Job and Tribute.
Tasty food.

Large open-plan style of pub with a raised seating area at one end. It probably needs to be like this to cater for the holiday-makers but I thought it was just a bit too open! Anyway - it was fine otherwise and my Trelawny beer - although being a bit unexciting as an ale - was in OK condition. Nothing really wrong with the pub but we didn't get over excited about Looe as a town so perhaps no need to go back there.

Dropped in whilst on holiday this week. As an outsider, what's the problem with St Austell beers - okay by me. Also very grateful to the locals for keeping the quizzers topped up with cash.

A group of six of us stayed in cornwall last week for a birthday treat, we decided to take a trip into looe, after walking along the beach an shops we stopped outside the pub. The menu was basic pub food, we went in and sat down, the pub had music and the t.v on overriding each other. food and drinks must be ordered at the bar aswel as gettin your own cutlery. Bar women was moody an rude! we all ordered seperatly but for the same table. My partners food came out 20 minutes before the rest of ours which ment he had finished by the time we got ours. Three of us had the lasagna and although the dish looked big dont be fooled. It was cold as was the garlic bread. My partner went up to the bar to ask why his had come out before the rest and all was said "well u ordered first, u got it first, if u wanted it last u should of said" yeah great. will not be goin back to this pub again!!

This is a deceptively large, street corner pub. It�s owned by St. Austells, but gives the impression of being part of a much larger chain with a corresponding corporate feel and distinct lack of atmosphere. They�ve made a bit of an effort with a mixture of slate tiled flooring around the bar and carpet elsewhere, but ultimately it fails to deliver much in the way of ambience.
There�s a pool table out towards the back of the pub, and a front bar filled with tables which I guess is used more for eating. There�s a small snug area with a couple of sofa�s around a plasma and a log burning strove, and plenty of fruit/quiz machines to keep the punters amused.
Beers on tap were all from the St. Austell�s stable, with their Tribute, Tinners and HSD. Ciders were Cornish Rattler and Olde English.

Yet again the usual 3 to 4 St Austell beers. Do the locals of Looe like drinking the same beer all the time?

Busy town pub. Beers on offer were Tinners, HSB and Tribute, the latter well kept and served by polite and friendly staff. On the day of my visit the FA Cup final was showing on 2 large screen TVs and the place was packed with (well behaved) footie fans.

It's a question posed every visit to Looe....always en-mass(wife,mates,kids,dogs etc),but where to 'refresh'!?!
Only family friendly/family sized pub with out the scuzzy holiday element or the 'well worn local' look.(Not a complaint mind-but kids etc don't apprieciate beery charm like moi!)
But I struggle with the fact that the food is okayish and the St Austell is purely average compared to others nearby!

what a pleasant suprise this place was. thought it looked a bit foody/family from the outside but we had a top night in here with a couple that we bumped into. a shame a poisoned dwarf from the bullers spoiled it slightly when we nipped out for some grub and tried to beat the couple up. thankfully the landlady kicked them out pronto and barred them. the pub is not like that at all and is very family friendly.
tastefully done out and doing good food too. well worth a visit.

Good size St Austell pub where the ale is well kept and the food good value. The staff are always welcoming and there is a raised area with a couple of sofas where you can watch the world pass by. Often stop off here when we are in town.

Everybody has it's favourite pub for whatever reason and the Ship always ranks high in my esteem for many reasons.The staff are very friendly yet don't take any nonsense from drunken tourists and of course the food is excellant.I have however a soft spot for Louise the mangeress and I want her to wink at me when she serves me next if she reads this text or knows my signature.I also have a soft spot for the wife but it is on Bodmin Moor near Dozmary Pool!One of the reasons why I like the Ship and have been a regular for three years could have something to do that the snug by the corner window looked just like the living room of a house I once owned-sometimes I sit in it and either think or crave for the return of my house which I sold and moved to Cornwall for all the wrong reasons.

It is a bit run down, but not excessively so. Friendly staff and Landlord, and the Tinners is the best pint in Looe in my opinion. Much better than the Swan up the road, with it's fake hand pumps.

what a lovely place! very friendly staff, food was lovely (veggie lasagne was great!) and a lovely pint of rattler. vey quiet when we visited but we could not be made more welcome! keep it up, a lovely pub.

Gone downhill since St Austell Breweries decided to desert it and not pay for sky tv anymore. I am not a local but visit 5 times a year. All the ambience and locals have gone. A shame really.

I totally agree with the previous comments about the Ship Inn being quiet and lacking in atmosphere and that also it needs a refurb. It is a shame because the Tribute was superb, but the bad vibes made us want to drink up and move on, which we did, across the road to Ye Olde Salutation. Although the cleanliness (or the lack of it) has been commented on previously, it wasn�t a problem when we visited; everywhere including the toilets were clean, it�s just that the whole place is desperately in need of a bit of TLC �

Pubs in tourist traps are often a bit iffey with regards to service and quality but this one is OK. Nice drop of Tribute and good food reasonably priced and well served. Fairly quite for a Bank holiday week which suited us if not them.

visit several times each year, find it lacks atmosphere, Bar satff tend to be young and unenthusiastic. We used to go in for big screen sports but they stopped the SKY tv last year so is now off our list.

Decent landlord who serves in the pub, quite unusual in Looe. Staff don't listen to what you order and ask again and again. Not sure about the food.... and pub always seems quiet. However beer is ok. would score it higher if it had a bit of atmosphere

has gone down hill fast - decent choice of ales but the food is poor, the decor is badly in need of refurb and the tables are often dirty from the previous occupants

Excellent beer. Friendly atmosphere with a good range of entertainment (pool table, quiz machine, big screen sports.) Young female bar manager with what has to be the sexiest arse on the planet. Worth a 250 mile drive just to admire that for an evening. Spendid range of beverages too for those who prefer something less alcoholic. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

This is the nearest pub to a theme pub in the area but pleasant enough and serves the finest pint of Tinners I've ever had.

Staff ok , manager very professional, he must be a businessman rather than a landlord, they let you take beer to your room. Nice pub.

Excellent St Austell ales and good food. Friendly staff but the atmosphere is a bit "Harvesty". Worth a visit, though.
