Nice welcome from the young lad behind the bar and a few very welcome pints of Proper Job were consumed. Nice little place to spend a couple of hours catching up with old friends.

Visited the Ship a couple of times during half term week and especially had a cozy couple of hours sat by the open fire on a very cold afternoon Tribute was my beer of choice and it was beautiful.The bar staff could not have been more hospitable Lovely pub in the heart of Mevagissey

Visited in April 2012, but only for beer, not food... Beer was good (St.Austell ales) and we got talking to a couple from Winchester who were camping. Lovely old "sea-dog" feel, and surely this is what a pub is all about. Food used to be okay, but cannot comment on this occasion

Visited in July 2011. Had to double-check that we went to the same place as previous reviewers. Our visit was very disappointing, young bar staff couldn't answer simple questions about the menu and the food was terrible - dried up, reheated and overpriced for what it was. Draft beer tasted bad and had a sparkler on it. I promise we are not fussy pub goers - but just can't find anything positive to say about this one!

Now under proper management and just as a good pub should be - welcoming, good range of well kept beer, good (well priced) pub food. Live music occasionally. Highly recommended. Just shows what a bit of perseverance will do for you!

New people running the Ship...(same as The Ship in Pentewan). Previous very disappointing visit, however now has new staff and delightful atmosphere. Good food and well kept St Austell range. Friendly and lively atmosphere. Superb pub now.

Potentially great pub with St. Austell beers, sightly spoiled for me by supercilious bar staff - Q. What wine have you got? A. Red or white. OK this may be a bit oversensitive and may have been meant in jest, but we have found the same kind of off-handed treatment on two or three occasions.

A nice pub with a maritime feel, very apporpriate to its location. The usual range of St Austell ales are well kept, and the food is very good. We would visit again, and might even stay!

We regularly use this pub for our lunchime meals whenever we visit Mevagissey, and much prefer it to the Fountain Inn which we have also tried.
Friendly staff and a good selection of reasonably priced food.
If you like bread and butter pudding I recommend the one they serve here - it was one of the best I have ever tried - just hope it's on the menu when we next visit!!

Caught a bus here to do the Fountain, and popped in here too. Excellent Proper Job from St Austell and an interesting pub to look round.

Good beer, (Tribute, Proper Job, HSD), locals were much more friendly in here than the Fountain round the corner. Stayed over night and would liked to have had more of a session with the locals and landlady (She was mad, dancing round and round the pub to one song, over an dover again!) but they were not getting up early and driving, whereas I was - shame!

Shame only St Austell beers but excellently kept Tribute is worth drinking. Has several room type areas with port holes and other boaty stuff
Had 2 nights here and on the second there was a bloke strumming a guitar and singing pop hits of c60s.

Good pub. Great food & drink. The Lasagne is fantastic. Could do with a bigger non smoking area. The area inside the door would be ideal but sadly it's the brat area. Dogs are welcome. Bar staff do a bit too much messing around but they do the job as well so not really a problem. They cooked me the wrong steak earlier this year. I asked for fillet and got sirloin. They informed me before it arrived and I said I didn't mind but they refunded me for the meal after eating anyway and I got free drinks. Can't be fairer than that.

Like many of St. Austell Brewery pubs the bar staff are often preoccupied elsewhere rather than serving the punters, a decent pint though.

Another plastic pub, but the beer was drinking very well. Had a laugh when a customer asked for a steak. How would you like it cooked ? said the barman. Well done please, came the reply. What sauce would you like with it? Err - brown please. No, said the patient barman, I meant pepper or blue cheese!!!

Lovely local, very busy in the holiday season. Serves large portions of well cooked food, and the Real Ale is in tip top condition. The bus from St Austell stops right outside.
