Good to see Blandford Forum's Badger maintain a redoubt in the Smoke and this isn't a bad stopping off point - the ales such as Thirsty Ferret and Hopping Hare may be quite common in supermarkets these days, less so outside Dorset's pubs. That said, it seems to have been refurbished a little too clinically as the pub bears little resemblance to a book on London's Best Pubs that had provoked our visit.

Found this in a Camra Pub Guide - but there's not really too much to recommend it.
I normally get on OK with Badger Beer - but the tanglefoot was headless, weak tasting and pretty insipid.
Nothing to make this place worth revisting.

One of my favorite pubs. This pub has changed a lot since 2007 when I first went there for a karaoke night. The place hasn't gone downhill at all, still cozy, clean, welcoming. However it seems to have virtually no entertainment at all anymore? No quiz nights, no darts or pool table, no karaoke, no comedy nights (they used to do that, too!), NOTHING! All you can do there is drink and eat, which is fair enough, but BORING! I haven't been a regular for a while because I can't be bothered to travel from where I live just for a pint? I am not sure whether it's just landlord being lazy or people wanting food, drink and nothing else?

Quite a nice place to frequent from time to time, and one of few places where I am happy to go to on my own.

Was pleasantly surprised when I nipped in last night, the last time I was in here was a few years ago when it was a Sam Smiths place, yuk. Quite a tasteful refurb although the bar area remains the same. Tanglefoot, Badger, Fursty Ferret and Sussex (not the Harveys variety) were all on and well kept. Quite a selection of Europiss lagers as well, for the tourists I suppose. Clean, tidy and the staff were attentive without going overboard, I didn't have to wait long at all for service, unlike other pubs round here. This place says that it is "The last real pub in Notting Hill" and it is easy to see why. I think it really is but there again there is absolutely NO competition locally! Well worth a 9/10 easily.

Echo most of the previous comments a very nice pub away from the main roads. Definitely worth a visit and the badger beer is always good. Will call again if in the area.

Pleasant typical city pub nicely renovated and opened out, with a good atmosphere and friendly service. Downside for me was that it is always disappointing to visit a pub with a reputation for a good choice of ales to find there is only one on. This was a Badger brew (Pickled Partridge) which was very acceptable, but from the reversed pumpclips on the other handpumps it was obvious that I called at a bad time. However, plenty of other pubs can maintain a decent choice on a permanent basis, including many small locals; it only requires planning and a bit of cellarmanship. I would still return for a second visit on the assumption that I would not be unlucky twice.

Hall & Woodhouse pub serving King & Barnes Sussex Bitter, Badger First Gold, Tanglefoot and Lemony Cricket on my visit yesterday afternoon. The cider is Westons Stowford Press. The central circular bar dominates proceedings. Seating is modern. World Cup football was showing on the TV. One person kept shouting 'Rooney, Rooney' with the USA playing Slovenia. I couldn't quite understand why. Pleasant enough pub without being spectacular. Certainly not worthy of its current rating.

Hi, I am a real ale lover from Venice (Italy), visiting UK very often.
I agree with most of the reviews beneath, the Prince Edward is a real gem, one of my 5 best pubs in London, in my opinion.
We popped in a week ago, after a morning spent in Portobello market, the staff is extremely kind, particularly the guy who was very nice with me and my girlfriend, gave us good suggestions and tasters about the several real ales offered.
I tried them all (four real ales if I am not mistaken), unfortunately don't remember all their names, Hopping Hare was on for sure, my favourite was Badger, a Dorset ale with a peculiar taste, my girlfriend enjoyed a good pint of Suffolk light ale (a spring ale as the guy told us), all very well kept ales.
We also had lunch and the food was ok, kind of steak with vegetables for me, jacket potato for my girlfriend, very good portions at reasonable prices.
The exterior with prince Edward portrait is awesome, the interior of the pub is quite traditional, a wooden island bar with stools, some sofas and a large table on one side, small tables and other stuff on the other; we sat and ate in the sofas, very very confortable, there is a lcd screen which was showing football (english Championship highlights) with volume switched off, perfect. Nice furniture and prints on the walls but above all great music in the background (kind of melodic rock-indie-pop) at very low volume, creating a fantastic atmosphere really!
A pub worth searching for it, both if you are in Bayswater or in any other area of London, highly reccomended.

lovely little pub. i've become something of a regular now, largely due to chums within the staff, and though it took a while for me to warm to the place i now enjoy it there immensely. my one slight niggle with the place- those horrible, sharp, square stools on one side of the island bar. otherwise ace

I totally agree with the review beneath by Mr Rattus. I reviewed this pub several years ago and not much has changed really. It has been updated a tad but has the same feel to it - perfectly acceptable and off the beaten track enough to be comfortable and spacious, and it's still essentially traditional. They've re-done the furnishings which basically follows the current trend of having a hodge-podge of seating types thrown together in the same space, which actually makes it quite hard to find somewhere reasonable to sit - there was a nice spot by the sunny window but there were ludicrously high bar/breakfast type stools at that particular table which were not very comfortable, so we sat round a somewhat over-large formal table. Never understood this current interior design trend for "chuck a load of ill-matching furnishings together and called it Relaxed Bo-ho". Pub also now a tad gloomy - better lighting required. But all in all fine though as the gent below states, 7.8 is rather an excessive score.

This is a Hall & Woodhouse pub, so the usual range of ales are available, but they did'nt have any Pickled Partridge on (which I had had at Ship and Shovell an hour or so earlier) although they did have Hopping Hare on. I had the Sussex Bitter, which was fine. A central island bar dominates the pub; there are a couple of sofas in the front bar; a few stools round the bar; and in the back bar there is also a set of six attractive high-backed chairs round a largish table that would not look out of place in a dining room.
The thumping Latin American music was not being played so loud as to prevent conversation. The flat screen TV, although showing Sky Sports, was muted. It is carpeted throughout, tastefully lit, and with numerous miscellaneous prints on the walls plus a gas-effect fire on the go gives it a very homely feel. I am trying to paint a picture of a warm and welcoming pub, which I think this is. I would pay this pub a return visit if I was in the area, but it doesn�t really deserve the 7.8 rating it currently enjoys.

Friendly and fairly dark traditional pub with Hall and Woodhouse ales including Pickled Partridge and Sussex Bitter. Food range includes the aforementioned Kobe beef burger (not tried). A little bit off the beaten track but this trad boozer, with its real fire burning, is a welcome sight and does not appear to be at all neglected.

I came across this pub when i was travelling through London from Toronto, i had just got off the plane and
was desperate for a beer and something to eat, i came in to find that the bar staff were not only friendly but very welcoming and helpful, i ordered the fish and chips and was suprised to see the gigantic proportion i was served, not only was it huge but extremely delicious and the hof brau extra cold which came recommended was a very good choice of beer which set me up for my day in London, would i recommend this pub? most definetely if you are looking for a pub with great food and a good vareity of beers and welcoming bar staff who are helpful and plesent then this is the pub for you

A traditional pub dating back to about the 1850's. It's a Hall and Woodhouse owned pub with 4 of the Badger Ales available on hand pump. Most of our large group ordered the seasonal beer 'Pickled Partridge'. It was a lovely dark amber colour and tasted lovely. They were presented to us in an unusual shaped branded pint glass.
The barmaid serving yesterday lunch time was very friendly and welcoming. The pub offers a traditional pub grub menu at quite reasonable prices for central London. Our group mainly had either the steak burger or the all day breakfast. The food arrived pretty quickly which was appreciated as we were planning other pubs before the football yesterday at QPR. All of our group were happy with the pub, beer and food and would certainly use again if in this area.

I first discovered The Prince Edward while attending a college semester abroad program in the early 1990s (and it hasn�t changed since). While a bit off the beaten track, the beer is great, and the staff and patrons tend to be very friendly. My wife and I make it a priority to stop in during our yearly visits to London. We don�t have anything quite like it in Chicago. Is this a fancy place? No. But, it does have a relaxing, comfortable environment that must be experienced to be truly appreciated. It�s not too difficult to lose track of time drinking pints of beer at this place.

A very congenial and civilised pub off the drag with a good range of Badger beers to choose from. Surprisingly roomy too with a separate dining area, big fire and a decent sized telly for sport. Far superior to the dross round corner.

Great pub. I highly recommend the badger to drink, as I do of most lunch times, and the sausage and onion baguettes for a light snack at lunch time are spot on. The girls behind the bar are always very welcoming and make you feel like a mate. When all's said and done, a good and proper English pub with good ale.

An absoulutly brilliant pub.Stumbled across it at Notting Hill carnival.Although the staff were extremely busy,they still were extremely friendy and hospitable,unlike many we visited that day.The food was lovely,with a big selection to chose from.Its a very clean friendy pub that we have visited many times since.

An excellent pub. Good selection of well kept ales with a landlord who makes the effort. Food is also good value as well. I make a special effort to visit this pub when in London!

A decent Local pub - and you dont find that too often. Good beer and ale and reasonable pub grub. The Karaoke on a Friday is a blast! Regulars and newcommers have an absolute ball and the talent varies from fantastic to just down right entertaining. The hosts are fab and very encouraging and supportive if youre a bit nervous. A great night out!! A very friendly crowd I would highly recomend it!

Decent Hall and Woodhouse boozer serving their beers. Big and jolly. A lot of tourists. Good pint of Tanglefoot.
A sign indicates this is the only pub serving Badger beers within a five mile radius. Unless the Mason's Arms by relatively nearby Marble Arch is five miles away, I think not.

A very comfortable, pleasant place for a few rounds and a conversation with friends. Not a place for people who need eight televisions or twenty music speakers to qualify as a night out.
The beer is generally quite good (I did have one iffy pint there, but that seems to have been an anomaly)--not a ton of selection, but enough that you won't be bored. And if you stick around the bar, you'll more than likely get drawn into conversations with the bartenders or the other patrons.
I've not yet been to Karaoke night, but I've been told that it's quite good for those who like it. I'll stick to drinking...

Nice enough place - a bit worn but comfortable enough. A bit wide open for my tastes with bar in the middle and big open room around it.

I have a perverse liking for this pub. It's a bit tatty round the edges but basically comfy, spacious and agreeable. Beer is usually good too. Not had any of the grub but it seems to do a good reasonably priced spread. Good for few pints before sampling the many delights of the nearby "street of a thousand resturants" - Westbourne Grove.
