just to get the record straight - are you sure you are referring to the right pub?
You seem to be describing The Grapes about 50 yards along the road which definitely does have a JFK room. The D & P doesn't and is "modernised", certainly not worn out.
I went in today and it was OK but only one ale on tap, so personally I prefer The Grapes.

Slightly worn out pub but serving good Tetley beer. Musicians in on the Wednesday i was in, Playing in the Kennedy room, a memorial to JFK. They were in no hurry to ask you to leave.

A pub that has mutiple personalities due to the range of people who come. Musicians in the evening sometimes accentuate its Irish profile. Proximity to city centre means it can also be a little rowdy, though not in a bad way. Best time to visit in my opinion is during the day. It's quiter, though never empty. The service attentive - especially if the landlady is present. The Guiness is good; as is the food - good value sarnies and the chip butties are the best for miles (am told the Scotch eggs are similarly good). It's comfortable, the snugs especially (where you can look at the old carvings of names and dates in the wooden surfaces). And there can't be many places that have a JFK room.

Irish pub in a city centre back street- but none of your faux nonsense, leprechauns or shamrocks here, this is a good boozer that is a pub with an Irish tint rather than a childish theme pub.
The fine green tiled frontage indicates that this was a Gilmour's pub. Beyond is a large network of cosy rooms, including a rear 'Kennedy room', the largest of the rooms, a front lounge and 2 pleasant snugs, both with gas fires. The front snug has an unobtrusive TV. The rooms are cosy and traditionally furnished throughout.
The pub isn't strong on real ale (for Sheffield at least), but Tetley bitter was fine on my visit. An Abbeydale pump was turned round, so at least it's not a keg zone.
Not a Sheffield must due to the sheer number of fine pubs nearby, but if you're a fan of traditional pubs you should try to head here at least once.

Good back street pub, which boasts a good 'Irish' atmposphere, whether empty or full, without any tacky theming.
They have real ale in Abbeydale Brimstone and plenty of good Guinness.
If you fancy a bite to eat, their bar sandwiches are large, very nice and good value.
Overall, a very good pub.

Another fine traditional cosy pub in a quiet side street on the fringes of the University area. The green painted frontage and large round Guinness sign indicate that it is catering for our Irish cousins, but don't let that put you off.
Note the impressive Gilmours frontage, although a lick of paint in places wouldn't go amiss.
It's a cosy low-ceilinged multi-roomed pub, of the type more often seen in the Leeds / Bradford area.
On the evening of my visit, the back room was hosting several Irish folk singers complete with accordion and hearty customer participation.
Guinness is the favoured drink here. Real ale was limited to Tetleys and one beer from Abbeydale, but I quite took to this pub as a pubby type of pub.

This is pretty much an Irish pub without the "theming" of O'Neills etc. It was packed on Friday as there were three guys playing acoustic guitars in the back room. Pretty good they were too. There's a tiny lounge on the left as you walk in with a real fire, very comfortable. The large back room also has a real fire but we couldn't get in to have a look as it was so busy. Had Tetley Bitter and Abbeydale Brimstone on handpump, the Brimstone was pretty good as well. Most people were drinking Guinness or Magners though. It's a decent enough pub and very popular.

What can I say, a magnificant pub, one of the best in Sheffield. Excellent atmosphere, comfortable seating in a proper pub. You can sit back and imagine you are in Ireland. The music last night was very relaxing - only 2 ales on, including Abbeydale Temptation which was in perfect condition. I will be returning regularly.

Once upon a time, there were many pubs like this. It is sad that there is only one left. It's almost an accidental 'theme' pub in that its theme is 'good old fashioned pub'. Multi room, limited but good real ales (nothing worse than five ales on, all crap), good guinness, and proper pub people in there. Always worth a visit. If you don't like this place, you don't really like pubs.

Looks a bit run down, but don't let it put you off. Good beer, particularly the Guinness, and often excellent music sessions in the back room.

THE best pub in sheffield. Without question. Amazing live music especially Mick and Dave on a friday, and Anne is a fantastic landlady. Just brilliant!

Great beer great pub, what a gem. Bit shocked to find it in Sheffield though, reminds me of the majority of irish family run boozers you get in Manchester and Liverpool.

I agree with the earlier post. Best guinness in Sheffield.Other well kept ales and even decent lagers. One of the best pubs in sheffield, with the best barstaff and worth more than 10 out of 10. Do not ever confuse with the one that was at Attercliffe !!
