Permanently closed and being turned in to flats. Seems to still be some planning issues.

Heard a rumour that it will be reopening shortly

Still closed.

Council wont re-issue licence due to hidden surveilance a few weeks before last tennant was chucked out.
Enterprise inns are stuck now and will be having to sell it or demolish it. They should sack the person who made it lose its license forever.

The licence was only objected to and then refused hands down in the last meeting when the council found out Tony Spud who just got thrown out of The Mitre in Anerley was going to be running it.
Enterprise told the council a suitable, experienced and strong licensee was going to be taking it on. So when they got the paperwork submitted it was obvious they were not taking the council seriously.

Always been a rowdy pub and a place for dealers to meet. They were the ones keeping the place open tho I guess. Never bothered me and I previously f=drank there on and off for over 11 years

Anyone know what has happened to this pub? Bromley Council (correctly) reviewed it's licence in January due to the anti social and public disorder issues the pub was inflicting on the area. It closed in early January with notices in the door saying it would open again on 29 January. It's now 15 Feb and it is still closed, with no sign that any work has been done on it to improve its dirty and shabby appearance.

Has the brewery given up on it?

I popped in the other day on the way home from work to find a scruffy looking unkempt baldy bloke picking his nose and eating it. Yes! , the same man who had just served me my pint in a hazy elderly looking pint glass.
The pub has a quaint atmosphere and with drastic redecoration could be lovely little boozer.
Unfortunately the pub is rather dirty inside and out. And I noticed that the toilet stank and had no toilet roll because the landlord had taken it upstairs with him after ordering a late night Vindaloo curry.
The chap working behind the bar was telling another customer how he had Chronic Diarrhoea all night long and early this morning.
Charming. I have seen this barman around 3 times since and he is still wearing exactly the same clothes as he was the week before.
Maybe they are his favourite attire along with the brown and reddish stain that was still present all down the front from my first visit.
I shall not be 'popping' in here again.
I moved here over 6 years ago and have yet to find a decently run pub in the area. As i left there were two young chaps smoking something illegal in the entrance. I am surprised that the local authority do not 'keep an eye' on these kind of estabalishments'....

The KH Tavern has been working hard to serve its locals esp over the last few months - its really cosy with the open fires, a board game and a good glass of Merlot in your hand. An entertainment programme has been initiated and we have some new menu items (+ new chef) which are great hearty suppers - so come on 'patron' don't be too harsh - its not easy in the recession i imagine to do a lot without heavy financial backing . it takes a community to get things going and we should be behind the KHT & other local businesses around us - or else we won't have such a good place on our doorstep and we will have to trudge to Beckenham or Sydenham for a pint & a hearty affordable supper (as i'm not a fan of the rest of the 'pubs' in Penge). I agree- it could be kept tidier in terms of the rubbish outside and the beer garden - its something that needs to be done everyday - Landlord Pete - please can you take heed??. I still rate the pub as a 7 for now

After seeing a couple of posts by what can only be the landlord, thought people might like to know the truth. A pub that is sliding badly In quality. First impression very poor due to the rubbish piled up in the corner outside. Rubbish has been there for months too. Not a welcoming atmosphere inside. A typical poor Penge pub. The day someone opens a proper good quality pub in Penge rather than us putting up with the crap we currently have will be a good day indeed.

thank goodness someone has taken over this pub - we had stopped going before and its our nearest ale house.

Now we have a local friends can come to and we can eat a decent meal at too. its great to see this happening as some of the other pubs in walking distance are not worth the walk let alone the risk of an unpleasant night.

The Kent House Burger is a real must try and goes great with a pint or two - its been smartened up and cleaned up and although it isn't a full on glamorous makeover its comfy, cosy and clean and friendly - they serve several beers etc and has been known to do themes such as Sangria with Paella. we love the fact that we now have a community pub we can go to and have some fun - mostly brought about by the quiz night on a Thursday - why don't some of you come down and join us

I very rarely comment on pubs I havent visited however the last is so blatantly a review by the pub landlord/manager/member of staff trying to attract business that I could not help to comment on this.

Anyone who goes on BITE on a reasonably regular basis can spot reviews like this a mile off. At least if you are a bogus reviewer have the common sense to write a few reviews on some other pubs apart from your own to make it less obvious.

Seeing reviews like this is all the more reason to sit up and take notice of the bad reviews! ! ! ! !

Hadn't been here for some time, but called in last night with family and friends. Went in public bar, where found helpful staff, decent range of beers and lagers and a most appealing menu. Unfortunately, we had eaten, so weren't up for eating there(though will go back and try that for sure). Barman brought our drinks to the table - which was unusual. Was a Thursday night, no one else in that bar, though others were playing pool or in the other bar.
Favourable impression. Hope other locals will support this place. Clearly the landlord is trying to run a good place, deserves support?

Another review of this pub from me.

Been a good few times now I've been here and it's got better, worth definitely worth popping along for a couple. The Brakspears is good usually, can't say much about the other beer cos haven't tried them.

The bar staff are friendly and the regulars ok, can't think of much to say against it really. They've even seemed to stopped the smoking inside the pub which is welcome.

There is just one small thing tho, a very small thing. For the last few times there's been a tiny mouse running around the pub as I've been supping my pint. Now, it is a very cute little mouse with very big ears but it's not the sort of thing you want to see in a pub. Especially if you may be eating there! Might be time to get a pub cat!

All in all a much improved pub, well done the management for the improvements over the last few years.

Much improved in recent months. Now has 2 or 3 ales on at any time (usually Brakspear and Hobgoblin) and the dodgy crowd from a few years ago seem to be getting thinner on the ground. They're clearly trying to improve the pub but it rarely looks busy which is a shame.

Visited upon recomendation on Sat 21 March. I adore 1930's pubs and was not dissapointed. Great deco era fireplace. Wooden wall pannelling. Obviously not 100% original: wouldnt make the National or Regional Inventory of pubs with historic interiors (if you into old OLD pubs - read these books and 'Licensed to Sell'). Beer wise: Not a bad Bass but the Brakespears Bitter was really, really good and at 2.80 at todays prices. If you visit and think the same - tell the govna. At least that way the bar mngr will get a good rap (as they say in the U.S.). An average of 20 people split between two bars between 8 and 12 pm.

Traditional, Irish, Family pub. its a real local with a great atmosphere. Food is served daily from 12 until 9pm and Sunday roast on a Sunday from 1pm til 6pm. The choice of Beers , Wines & Spirits is 2nd to none and probably the best Guinness outside Dublin.
chizza - 23 Mar 2009 20:10
I made a couple of comments a few years back but gave it another chance recently. It has got better and does serve an ok pint of Brakspear. The atmosphere's a bit better and the crowd are ok although they do let people smoke in the pub which is a real turn off.
anonymous - 23 Feb 2009 17:21
this pub is the cleanest drug free pub iv ever seen an trust me iv seen alot of them. i think all these other people must be blind thick and down right stupid. the beers lovely the atmosphere is top notch and the land lord does a ace job so does his bar staff.

Nice Saturday afternoon, perfect for a pre-dinner beer. Spotted this nice looking trad pub while on a run so wandered over to enjoy a cold one.
Considering we were almost alone in the bar, it was an impressive feat that we were made to feel quite so uncomfortable; the Guinness was ok, the bar has indeed seen better days, the service was verging on the 'you don't belong 'ere', but the kicker was the constant screaming, and running around of the owners/bar lady's/devil's young children who were allowed to treat the small bar as a playground. Time to drink up and go back home. In summary, not an experience to be repeated.
Squidward - 13 May 2007 14:37
Went in a few months back, haven't been back since. Furniture was all ripped, bar stank, beer was very average and the place had the general atmosphere that something was about to kick off. Could've done with a bit of a spruce up back in the 80s. Don't bother.
anonymous - 25 Nov 2006 01:34
Very nice looking boozer from the outside and layout in is very old fashioned and interesting - 3 rooms served by same central bar. Some efforts have been made to drag it out of the gutter by new landlord (it used to be rowdy and a bit of a trouble hotspot) and it now at least sells Pride and Bass rather than just Courage Best. However it's still not great and too many of the old crowd still frequent it.
Bovine_Juice - 3 Dec 2005 21:29
Contained a large selection of juvenile drug dealers on my one and only visit. You have been warned...
