Cracking boozer; one of the best kept secrets in the local area.

Quite easily the nicest pub in Woodley and actually has removed the need to venture into the dubious third world slum that Reading town centre has become.

Well at least it's an interesting building! I remember it as an isolated ruin deep in the dense and overgrown thickets of rhodedendron and bamboo which completely surrounded Southlake before the new houses were built. Classic territory for my somewhat Enid Blytonesque childhood: rafts on the lake ... piched battles with other kids etc etc.

It all seems rather tame now!

Large pub with decent beer garden in a densely populated area. I visited at 7pm on a Saturday, there was a wedding party and so fairly busy, well staffed at the bar. 2 Real Ales on Bombardier & London Pride, the Pride was a bit cold bit but in good condition. A nice pub that I will return to.

This used to be my local pub, but we went there very rarely because the atmosphere was very unwelcoming and it was often full of uncontrolled kids being ignored by their drunken parents. We moved a few miles away and haven't been for a couple of years. We decided to visit this weekend as it was sunny and it does have a decent sized garden - what an improvement. I understand it is under new management, and you can really tell. Much cleaner, loads friendlier. Couple of decent beers on, very nice simple menu. We had baguettes which were fresh and tasty, and a bowl of the best pub chips I've had in a long time. I hope they keep it up. It's in a good location right on Southlake which is a nice little walk around, and they even have a kids play area in the garden (fenced off from the rest of the garden)

I'm very surprised there have not been any recent reviews as the place has improved immensely under the new management. Four (I believe) real ales on and now doing food again (two for price of one during the day, so excellent value too). Well done and thanks to Aaron and Angie.

Was a great pub 10 years ago, now full of drunks kids running wild and fights at the weekend ..Someone take it over!

Just come back from a Family fun day held at this pub organised by the local Thames Valley Harley Davidson group for Charity. Really good day apart from the complete dis-organisation of the bar. If you are going have an event at least put on more than two members of bar staff and as landlord be around or have someone around with the authroity to sort out the various issues that will occur with lots of people around - serving stopped at one point because of no till-roll. Gripe aside, pub itself on the outside looks quite picturesque although inside is somewhat tired. Apparently Bombardier and Corage Best are the real ales available but not today ... larger all the way.

Nothing bad to say about this pub. There is a mixture of young and old and everybody seems friendly. The Thatchers used to have a play area which is why there were kids every where. This has now been replaced by a room where the younger people tend to sit.Staff are always happy and smiling but know when to be firm if there is trouble.overall brilliant pub especially in the summer.

This pub is a good reason to not vote for Tony Blair's Labour Party next time around. It is however a good place to see where your hard earn't cash is spent by others.

Blair's Britain!

Shocking pub. I used to be a regular but stopped going in when the standard of clientelle dropped through the floor. You can often see young children, toddlers and even babies with their parents, in the bar late on a friday night running around barefoot in the very very smokey and hot conditions. Anyone with any self respect would never go to this pub.

Nice enough place that serves the usual array of lagers and other drinks. Not sure whether I'd eat there, but there is a large beer garden which is great to sit in in the summer and the quiz on a tuesday night is quite good fun too.

Expect to come home smelling of cigarettes, however.

Chavs, the kind of football fans chelsea and millwall attract and quite often the detriment of junkies found in the toilets. Real class.

terrible, never have any food when i have been their that is on the menu, ie they are a steak and ale pub but i have been their twice in the last few months and they never have any steak, i mean how can you call yourself a steak and ale pub if you dont have any steak! They need to get their act together fast as they must be losing custom i know i shall not be going back! and yet at one time this use to be my local and at that time was a great pub, come on somebody get your act together once and for all.
