Now back to being called the Black Swan. Popped in on the 25th April. Two real ales on.

Apologies---! I should have prefaced my comment on the Hairy Lemon (Jesus, it hurts to say that) by pointing out that I was talking about the Black Swan! I am an idiot.

I spent a year of college in Alnwick. On our first night in Alnwick, a bunch of us went in there. Arthur Smart was the proprietor... It was busy, and I tried flagging him down for a couple of pints of Heavy with two fingers wagging in the air. Being American, I didn't know what that meant at the time. He never did like me after that.

I tell you what, though... they (the Black Swan) used to have the Plowman's lunch. If I recall correctly, it was a simple sandwich (your choice) a bowl of hearty stew or soup, and a pint of something like Drybrough's Keg Heavy for, like, a pound. Didn't hit many classes in the afternoons...

Seems a shame to see such a wonderful part of living change into the "modern."

Come a long way since it was The Black Swan, but not a good way. Are these a Whitley lot? Pint was average, pub was okay for a chain pub.

The pub looks attractive, bar person was polite but the drinks selection pretty woeful. Aimed at a certain clientele

How come when they say five pubs a day or something are closing, dumps like this stay open?

Chain pub, long bar with steep steps leading down to the rear, friendly staff, Theakston Dark Smooth was acceptable, decent food, quiet by day, brimful of top totty on weekend evenings. Very silly name.

Really poor bar no real ales, lacking any kind of soul, loud music, typical chain pub ,staff quite friendly thou, caters for the younger set.

No real ale. Get-drunk-quick promo posters.

And for that reason, I'm out.

Seemed ok, last place open in town at about 10:30 so went in for a last pint. Thought it looked a bit souless and chainy personally. Staff were friendly enough.
