Stopped at this pub unexpectedly on the way back from Devon last week. In need of a toilet break and a quick drink, but having stopped in, we decided to stay for a drink and a bite to eat. Nice cosy atmosphere, nice staff - and enjoyed the service / food very much. Would very much like to call in again, when in the area !

Stayed overnight at the Dove recently and enjoyed it very much. Nice mix of country pub charm with more decorative restaurant also available. Good food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Accommodation is contemporary and not over fussy. Hearty breakfast.
Would definitely go back.

"Obviously a great location on the river"??? What river might that be? The nearest river (the Itchen) is about 3 miles away. Looking at Laura1973's comments I see that she meant another "Dove" altogether (in London).
I haven't been here for years (since Patrick left), but have transferred allegiance to The Fox.

I am really surprised by the bad reviews of this pub. I went there on Saturday night (Jan 2010) and thought it was one of the best pubs I have ever been to. Obviously a great location on the river but also a gorgeous cosy old fashioned interior, soft lighting, timbered beams and lovely atmosphere. But what struck me most was the best service I have experienced in a pub for years. Although it was a Saturday night and fairly busy, the guy in charge made sure he found us somewhere to sit, although we weren't eating and hadn't booked. During the course of the evening, he came up with brilliant wine recommendations - suggesting a really nice bottle of Rjoja that was also cheaper than our original choice. Plus this is the only regular pub I've been to which offered a carafe of tap water, unasked, AND to top it all the manager ran after me when I left my scarf. Really can't work out how it could have gone so wrong for those who had bad service here, I was totally charmed by the place, and didn't see an ounce of rudeness throughout. We didn't get round to eating but I would definitely go back and try the food. I hugely recommend this place, try it for yourself.

Went there for a lunchtime pint and snack - there were three real ales on the handles, I had a Bowman Quiver which was in excellent condition and delicious. The place has been extensively changed from when I went there last - it is much better laid out and decorated but the table I sat at had the heaviest wooden dining chairs I've ever found! Service was both friendly, helpful and quick, the soup I had was apple and some other ingredients - not entirely to my taste but others may have appreciated it more than me. I felt prices were reasonable for a gastro type pub which is attached to an AA 4 star hotel. Will try it again next time I visit Micheldever Tyre Depot!

Beautiful pub lunch - 12 for two courses on the specials menu. I had a smoked haddock fishcake starter and cous cous with grilled haloumi main that were both gorgeous. My firend had fish and chips which was fab. We sat outside in the garden in the sunshine and it was lovely. Service was quick and with a smile. Would definitely recommend it.

This pub was my local and has gone through many changes over the last ten years. It now serves extremely overpriced mediocre food and the wine prices are outrageous. In the winter the place is freezing though they do have two or three real ales on tap usually London Pride and Doom Bar which are fine.

My advice take a coat and eat at home.

They've refurbished this pub and it's now much improved. Food and beers are good, atmosphere is friendly and staff welcoming.

overpriced bad food.
They put gerkins in a beef stroganoff, and charged 16.95 for it.
17.95 for a Langouistine and Scampi main dish, which had 5 deep fried pieces of scampi on a bed of iceberg lettuce!!
No more live bands either...
A dissapointment

Now open again, a nice pint of real ale, food looked good perhaps a bit pricey, I did not try the food so I will leave that to others.

Used to be a great place to visit by train have a few beers and watch a top notch band!

Now closed and will probably end up as a new housing estate. What a waste of a good pub.

Should be better, used to be quite a nice boozer. My favorite place name in Hants though

Enjoyed a stonker of a gig with Traffiker on 21st May. The beer was great and the service good. Tommy Allen played loud enough to detach retinas.

The beer seemed tired and the place has an air of being a bit run down and musty. I would no longer go out of my way to visit but might call in if passing.
i liked the previous owners who were very friendy and welcoming.
I understand the new management are aiming at the bikers market - but I could be wrong.
