We weren't planning to visit this Greene King pub. But, after the disappointment of the Romany, we decided to give it a go. With a funfair ongoing on the former Northampton racecourse opposite, parking was a bit of a nightmare. The effort wasn't really worth it. Abbot & London Glory was the uninspiring choice. I went for the former and forgot to ask for the CAMRA discount, which they apparently do. Quite a large pub inside, with plenty of TVs for sport.

A bustling town pub that specialises in pizzas and an adequate range of beers, with usually one fairly interesting guest ale. The building is well worth a close look and the staff have always treated me well. Not a bad urban bar

Has this pub had a change of landlord?

It seems to have gone down.

In reply to Bob Larkins comments about The White Elephant, I would like to comment on the incident which involved the Manager escorting the "middle aged woman" from the premises. What Mr Larkin did not see that evening was the lady in question randomly assaulting another guest with a pool cue, and the threats of violence she displayed towards other guests out in the beer garden, team members and the Manager. I am sure that if Mr Larkin was on the receiving end of her abusive comments or was the subject of an assualt a very different post would have been put on this website, and maybe a little praise for the manager for removing her for the safety of all the other customers, staff and herself.

Interesting evening recently.

There were 5 fairly varied real ales on. On asking about one the young new barman said something about "the barrel being a bit off" or suchlike and warned me off it. I suggested in that case the clip ought to be turned round, but no. I must have been lucky, the next punter might have got some dodgy beer.

A bit later the pony-tailed landlord manhandled a middle-aged woman from the rather empty pub (I don't know what her crime was, she must have been out in the garden). As a layman I would have thought his actions would amount to assault.

Five minutes later a cop appeared to see what had happened. Then another. Then they both left.

Yes, you never know what surprises a visit to the White Elephant will bring.

I quite like this pub, but it can change a lot from day to day. Fortunately it is quite big so you can escape from karioke even if it means going out into garden.

Usually have real ales on, vary in number. I've been there with just 2 on, but both dark beers which are not to everybody's taste.

Can't comment on the food, but pizzas seem to be the big thing.

oh my god,
ok it's monday,
you can anticipate it to being a quiet one...however my baby had more energy in her little finger in comparison to the women serving.
she was miserable and uninviting.

my partner and I were visiting friends, stopped for lunch,
to find a poorly maintained bar, with uninterested staff.
The coke was flat, not a single menu to be found and eventhough we checked initially whether they were serving...she said yea but still no menu's!!!

What ever happened to this place..it used to be the place to be..busy and buzzing...what a shame, when its such a beautiful building and great location..

MTaylor40 has summed this up quite well. It's a big estate pub (aptly named on first impression), with local support, lots of $ky TV screens, pool tables, acade type machines... oh and Northamptonshire skittles. However, the locals were friendly and welcoming and there was a good range of beer from smaller, lesser known breweries. We were very tempted to stay there rather than go to Sickfields and watch the football in the cold (a good away win made it worthwhile though).

the pub is quite pleasant and the food is very good, they have a good selection of wines beers etc the down side is do not order a soft drink without ice, you only get about half a glass and if you dare complain to the pub chain that owns the pub they treat you like an idiot by stating that you get 140z of drink in a 16oz glass. i would say 9 or 10 at the most but will leave that to the customers to decide.the price list states a glass, not part full without ice. overall a good pub, some of the staff need better customer service skills in my opinion

Typical (ex ?) Scottish & Newcastle barn of a pub with sports TV & cheap food, BUT very interesting beer range and high quality with it.

i like it. its a nice relaxing atmosphere, does good food and has five real ales on tap (i think they change them on a weekly basis so theres always a new one to try).

a good alternative to the picturedrome which is a little bit pretentious.

the quiz is good on a tuesday and always fun.

two pool tables but they are rond the corner at the back of the pub so they dont get in the way, show all the sport and have a big screen.

all in all a decent pub.

My wife's a doctor, I work in finance. Just got physically chucked out at 11.25, violentlty by three demosntrably stupid 'bouncers'. After sitting nicely and enjoying the band. First band I'd been to see there under new management.. Hmmm. One wonders who hires these dysfunctional losers ? Wouldn't bother going there again. And it's our local... All our loss ultimately; recommend yet ANOTHER boycott of the WH. Shame.

A bit trendy, but cheap cocktails nights on thursday, and buy one get one free on pizza on Monday
