Great night at The Sea Horse last night. Staff there are the best in The City.

played a game of darts down there, the throw is pretty awful tucked away in a corner, and the lighting isn't much better. Lazy playing of music through music channels is also evident as mentioned below, and would only really go back there when my team has to play there, wouldn't go by choice.

Agree with LondonHawk, the music's far too loud in this place. We went outside to be able to speak until rain drove us in and we had to shout over TV ads and chart music. Has Landlord on tap but that's not enough for me to bother returning.

What a wonderful little pub this is. It has everything. A bit of Northern hospitality right in the heart of London. The owners are wonderful little people and the owner John does a fantastic impression of Basil Brush. His daughter Alison does a wonderful turn on the Karaoke, she's like a Malaysian Amy Winehouse. The food is excellent and they have a wide variety of beers. For those of you who like to rub shoulders with the stars, there is a portly Daniel Ratcliffe lookalike who ocassionally pops in to sample the home made curry. Highly recommended.

Despite the other favourable reviews, I don't believe this pub's any good. They play music channels very loudly on large TV's and don't turn down the volume for the ads. That's not what I look for in a pub. I mean, you're standing there having a pint and all of a sudden there's a TV advert for Asda blaring out and ruining your conversation. Not on. Pass by, try another pub.

This is still the best pub in The City. One of the few with a dartsboard.

Visited again on a recent long trip to London. John and his team have created a very welcoming pub. A great selection of beers and good food available.
banksy - 20 Apr 2009 06:29
I endorse all of the above and this is a very welcoming public house and the owners should be applauded for their considerable efforts in making this a place to be proud off.

Just had a 6 week trip to the UK from Australia (where I currently am living). John, the landlord, and his team are doing a great job with the pub. It is generally packed in the evenings and there is a good atmosphere. It is extremely friendly which has made a massive difference compared to what it used to be like. Well worth a visit.

Hobgoblin is now on tap along with Harveys. Place is going from strength to strength.

I had my leaving do at The Seahorse. Fantastic food and wonderful service. Recommend a visit.
charltoronto - 23 Oct 2008 17:42
Have recommended to the landlord that he gets Wychwood Hobgoblin as his extra bitter...he's looking into it.

Pub has been transformed since Grim Jim left. The new owners have done a refurb which is a good to see but more than anything else they have done 2 things right: 1. Got Peroni on tap which seems to go down a treat with the customers and 2. Smiled when you approach the bar.

All that is missing now is a better range of bitters. Harveys is the only option at present but he has a spare spot and we are working on him to get another one.

Judging by the crowds I have seen there recently, this place is well on the way to being turned around.

This pub needs to be visited within the next few weeks as it's going to be refurbished shortly !! Go on a Thursday night .... it's a scream!! Recommended !!!

Strange one bar semicircular pub on Cannon Street.
Whilst wearing out shoe leather on Saturday during the recent 'Open House Weekend' and Red Ken's Thames festival found myself in here on the grounds that it was the first place we came to that was open.
Gann - 26 Sep 2007 12:49
Against all the odds the Harvey's bitter is pretty damn good in here.

I went to this pub a few years ago and like many other people seem to have experienced, the manager was extremely rude to me. I vowed there and then that I would never go to this pub again and I never have!
jenrob - 25 Apr 2007 16:14
hello everyone, i have just found out where JIM AND KAY have gone, its the RAM INN IN HERTFORDSHIRE nice place
anonymous - 7 Apr 2007 11:51
Not quite sure what to make of this place. Traditional exterior, but (partially) modernised interior. Pretty full after work on a Friday night (but what self-respecting pub in the City isn't?). Sells Harvey's, though, so can't be all bad...

I came in here for lunch and gave my card to the barman to pay. 10 minutes later he comes back with the receipt for me to pay - I sign it and he gives me my card back. Only thing is, it's someone else's card. I've paid for dinner with someone else's Visa which kinda concerns me. Barman gives me back my card and acts like nothing's happened. I question whether he's going to refund the payment and get payment from me but he refuses. I then have to go round the bar and find who's just paid for my lunch and get them to sort it out with the barman. Outrageous.

Stumbled across this quaint pub today after work in the city and found it to be very lively and buzzing. On the front,it mentioned it was under new management and having read the other reviews for this pub, it has done the seahorse good.

I was greeted by a friendly bar steward who welcomed me,had a chat and served very quickly. The music was calming and the people around me were friendly. The menu offers your standard pub food, but also offers something different which no pub i have been to offers. Authentic and home made malaysian food! Its definately very unique and also quite popular during lunch times i hear. I went travelling through Asia and i did try out some malaysian food whilst out there. It was a treat to eat it again and not have to travel so far to eat it.

I would highly recommend this place and will go again. The service is of high standard, people behind the bar are friendly, food is lovely, unique with a mixture of the east meets west style and its not smokey at all. Also, having a station 1 min walks is useful getting home!

Terima Kasih!

The last review is pretty much spot on. The management in question are in their 3rd stint at this pub. During their first tenure, i, (with a number of workmates) were regulars here and spent an absolute fortune in this place. However, we moved offices and didnt go back for a few months (as it was out of our way). When we did make a special effort to return, the manager acted like he didnt even know us! Says it all really when they are struggling for business on Paddy's day! I now walk past the place on the way home and i dont think ive seen more than a handful in there at any time

Hilarious! Pub an OK bolthole, if you like empty (on St Patricks Day!) and grubby but, the landlord is quite possibly the strangest, rudest and angriest man Ive ever met! Barred two groups of customers as they entered whilst we were there with a cheery Go, on f*ck off!, for no apparent reason (the first a group two people, the second a group of three). Both groups were clearly first time visitors, and Im at a complete loss to know what was wrong with them! oh, hang on, one guy was wearing a hat because it was cold in conclusion, avoid unless everywhere else is packed (we only went there because you couldnt get through the door at the Hatchet just down the road).

A cracking little proper boozer. Limited range of beer (only pride + lagers), but all well kept & served. Landlord & landlady - Jim and Kay - are gems and make the pub what it is. Worth checking out, even if just for the free jukebox...
duncan - 17 Feb 2006 16:02
this pub could be a good pub but the management or manager are very ignorant, rude too the customers etc, in my oppinion a touch of re training would do no harm, i know the manager, he has had several pubs before, ie hendon, harlesden etc and wasnt liked in any of them, ime sorry but their it is
formworker123 - 29 Jan 2006 17:03
A very basic but extremely friendly pub. Perfectly decent pint of Pride and a free juke box. Extra points for the free chips and sausage rolls last Friday (thanks Kay). I can quite see why some others have slated this place and to be fair it's not an establishment you're likely to go out of your way to visit - but certainly not the worst in the area if you do happen to be passing. Also very close indeed to my office so a regular haunt for the "swift one after work".
tim_eyles - 12 Dec 2005 01:25
Whilst I understand that it is the manager's choice as to whether he will serve a customer or not, a recent visit to this pub suggests their judgement on when to exercise this is very poor. We were refused a drink even though the place was empty - none of us were drunk or looked remotely dangerous - very disappointed by this experience.
kwatkins - 14 Aug 2005 19:28
sorry, the last comment didnt do them justice.

They put the phone down on me when i called them.

Even bigger tw@ts.
cheapside - 1 Jul 2005 12:35
terrible sh1thole, this one...only good thing i can say about it is that it breaks up the journey when i have to walk to waterloo cos those tw@ts on the tube are striking again. otherwise, avoid.
tanderson7 - 31 Mar 2005 12:04
Barely a pub with incredibly sparce decor,...almost like someone has rigged up a green house next to a main road and whacked some optics on the back wall,..soul-less and silent from what i can remember,.....one fruity
kmcs - 31 Mar 2005 11:08
(Very) small single-storey pub. It's semi-circular, with a bar along one end and the arc of the circle made up of windows facing the street. There are a few tables, and in summer a few more are put outside on the pavement facing onto the busy junction outside. The beer is overpriced and there's not much choice, but the atmosphere is good and the staff friendly. Very popular with the office workers after work, but there's no "local" crowd.
