I enjoyed The Pheasant: I came for food with the family which was good British pub food. Nothing pretentious or gastro (thank god) but decent and freshly cooked.
A couple of well kept ales on tap: I had the Butcombe which was great and probably the most local one. I think one of the others was Landlord, although didn't try it since we're 200 miles from Yorkshire. No particularly interesting cider offerings. Friendly staff, and cosy inside. A lot better than the comments below: maybe had a new guvnor in the last few years?

To make a go of this place the young couple must get their act together. The place was cold , my pint of bitter was far far too cold and it took almost an hour to serve two pre-made pies and one scampi and chips in spite of there being only one table of three before us. On asking for the dessert menu, bearing in mind that they advertise as homemade dessert specialists, we were offered a choice of apple pie or biscuits and cheese.

Sunday lunch buffet very good value for money with a fair choice of food.
Both plates and food could be hotter but the service is OK
Ice cream puds are a bit dear. Choice of beer alright.

Went to go in this place the other day, after a year or so review March 28th 2007...
I was surprised to see the carpark empty and, what seems to be now some sort of chain food pub in place..These i don,t use,so did not go in.
The comments i can only say from experience of other chains read about right,in my opnion.
How come such a good place can be brought down to it,s knees so quickly.
Sounds very much like the, cheap service/drinks/food sold at a high price?
The only survivors this day and age is Quality,, not fast bucks..

The decor and ambience is great. Beer good, wine fine. Food doesn't quite come up to expectations. The veggie in our party was reduced to having a rather grotty pizza and chips because she didn't want pasta and the other two non-meat choices were off the menu. Very disappointing; and they forgot the chips, so they came late, undercooked, fatty and very hot. My monkfish meal was very good, the lasagne average. It's early days for the new proprietors, so I wish them luck but will be very reluctant to go there again.
