user reviews of the Chameleon Bar, Woking

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Full of plastic hard men and their fat and ugly looking girl friends.

if you have any sense or taste go and spend your hard earned money somewhere else (imagine most of the customers are spending their free money from the "social" in this dump).

If this was the last drinking place open in Woking I would rather go home and have a cup of tea.

I'm glad that some people can agree with me. The place is very obviously for drunk teenager-chavs and 17 year old chav-mothers. I've witnessed so much out-side the front of this poor excuse for a club. Few years ago, I visited it a few times and felt as if I was in a room full of Vermin!!

I remember being in the toilet - and a bouncer (who seemed to be pissed out of his face) being bottled by some random bag of meat. The place is just for scum - No other way to describe it.

Rating of 0

Nightsmoker - couldn't agree with you more, especially with the obese women fighting.

Just before New Year's Eve, heard that a defenceless young girl was set upon by a violent obese woman without any provocation. Any spectators??? YES - the bouncers!!! Did they step in?? NO!!

If you value your life and the life of your loved ones - you will avoid this place like the plague.
ClassyLady - 7 Jan 2011 18:31
Agree with nightsmoker, this is one to be avoided.
Passing_By - 13 Jun 2010 13:23
Firstly this is not a pub, but a drinking-hole with the latest cheese-music.
It really is a dive and full of young (and under-age) people drinking bright blue shots in (what looks like) test-tubes.

I would say that this place could also be for the bored house-wife trying to get a younger lad, whilst her husband is away lorry-driving.

I wouldn't waste my money in here and would sooner be drinking White-Lightning Cider from what is now 'Budgens' on the corner.

I've seen many sites outside the front of this place. So many different varieties of aggression, from obese women rolling around on the floor fighting (with their tops pulled up and their stretch-marks on show)... To skinny lads with spikey hair and blonde high-lights trying to take on a group of homeless and less fortunate beings.

On walking past this establishment, it's always nice to see some foreign 'bouncers', with their illuminous SIA arm-bands, pumped up and giving every person "the evil"... as if they are set to invade Poland.

I don't recommend this place and urge you to spend that little more time walking to a decent pub than waste your money, time and life in here.

Let me sum this up and leave it here...

It's a joke and full of clowns... anyone who takes to this style of lame & cheap form of entertainment is nothing more than a lost donkey.
nightsmoker - 7 Jun 2010 18:14
The only thing that was good about this place was Saturday nights!!!! it was the best night of the week, it had at least 400 people attending, then their resident DJ who had been there years left, It has been shit ever since and I have not been back as your lucky to get 200 people in and the music is crap!!

YRRAG its never going to get better its dead on its arse!!!
flob1976 - 7 Nov 2009 19:58
Yeah they gave me 5 quid just 2 enter but claimed it back when i got drunk
PubWithTheGrub - 4 Nov 2009 17:28
so bad they even pay you to go in there !
grumbleweed - 21 Sep 2009 15:44
the worst bar ive ever been to 5 to get in unless your under 18 then i beleive its free, full of 16 and 17 year olds that cant get into a bar with proper door staff if your under age and looking for a night out in Woking head down to chameleon you wont have any problem getting in here the door staff have trouble working out their own age.
pete_01 - 20 Sep 2009 02:28
its all changing here, new dj, better music, better drink offers, will improve for the good
yrrag - 10 Jun 2009 14:41
Meatmarket playing AWFUL music with awful beer and mostly awful people and bouncers..... enough said.
BestBeerBoffin - 23 May 2009 17:00
ive only had a reasonably good time here being absolutely plastered otherwise its a total bore - extremely repetitive music although not as bad as the 80s crap they play over and over in yates round the corner! its way too pricey for what it is to go on any other day than thursday (student night) but then you get all the paralletic, lairy teens- its a great place for a 'first time nightclub' when youre just not quite 18.. the bouncers are strict though, more strict on boys than girls but its easy to sneak in if youve got the knowhow! grown out of it now but back in the day thursdays were the day to look forward to! its generally a chav infested mating ground with tacky glasses, girls, music and very sticky floors (do not fall over as will likely to have a alcopop soaked arse!) often things get nicked out your bag - just stay away if you dont want a good night ruined!
hayleyjames - 10 Feb 2009 13:39
Ok if you want a drunk night out - but not a place to pull classy girls.
GuildfordAndWoking - 26 Dec 2008 16:15
Better than Bed Bar, but attracts more of a chav culture.
TheSurreyPubMan - 13 Dec 2008 11:48
Pretty bad, Not much alternative to crappy lager and u cant avoid the cheesey music
BigAleDrinkhead - 1 Nov 2008 16:18
stay away unless your paraletic total crap hole full of chavs
hermiek - 13 Feb 2008 23:06
I have never been to it as a pub, just as a club.

My advice would be to avoid unless you are very drunk. Then you will not care about the sticky floors, awful music, djs who dont listen to any kind of request even if it is in the top 40, and drunk people either having sex or trying to have sex with you. It is a meat market essentially.

I always regret coming here when I look at my receipts the next day and see I paid to go in and to get drinks and I have never had a wonderful night, just some ok ones.

I personally have never had problems with the bouncers. My friends have though and they seem to be more rude to men for some reason. I have also seen people kicked out for kissing (which is ironic given that I have actually seen people groping in a very full on way in here!)

There is not much choice of club in Woking which is why everyone ends up here but if it is a sober choice dont do it!
holiver - 31 Oct 2007 16:48
I would have thought that this place is a nightclub? It is certainly not worth going here for a drink, that's for sure choice is overpriced and bland. The atmosphere is the reason for going though if you're simply after music I would go somewhere other than Woking to be honest.
Will2 - 9 Oct 2007 12:35
Better than expected on a Tuesday night in fact. Though was a tad put off by the greenish plastic glass my beer was served in, Unusual taste but perhaps it was the hint of Apple. May be better to try the bottled beers though. Be prepared for drunks to chat 2 you here
aleman - 18 Apr 2007 01:34
Avoid this place like your life depended on it. The bouncers enjoy making themselves out to be the most powerful thing to hit Woking this decade. A short course in manners wouldn't go amiss. Once you get inside, the bar staff, are a mixture of hardworkers and girls with bad attitudes. When we queried paying almost fifteen pounds for a small round of drinks (3), we were greeted with poor attitude, no customer service & on admitting their mistake they made no apology. I'd rather be thirsty in a desert than have a drink in this place. OK, so lets look at the positives of this place. Oh yes, there are none!
anonymous - 17 Apr 2007 21:03
oh, and once in you're generally ok. The staff are quick to serve and it can get pretty busy. I guarantee though, after 15 minutes of getting in, you'll wonder why you paid for the privelage.
guiness1 - 9 Apr 2007 20:37
Well.
This place is a must for after hours drinking. The women generally are very nice but you do get some mouthy chavs also. For years I frequented this place most saturdays and really quite liked the variety of music and drink selection but havent been in there for years now. I will say though that the "well ard bouncers" need to lose the attitude and be polite occasionally, there is no need for them to be rude all the time, only when its neccessary. Apart from that quite a sound place and I recommend it.
D180 - 27 Mar 2007 10:42
This place is full of idiots at the weekends, not a bad place to watch the footy during the week tho
NormanSpoonBender - 17 Aug 2006 11:48
Usual club for a small town. Packed on the busy nights, empty during the week. Yes it often gets crowded with teens who can't handle their drinks but that happens in many bars and clubs.Haven't noticed large queues outside for a while so that's a bonus...
servemenow - 5 May 2006 13:21
I fink it's wikkid that ppl can cum here and drink 20/20 and punch some1 if u want 2. Gr8 place I luv it LOL.

For god's sake. I despair.
MrLash - 17 Jun 2005 11:50
oh my god. if this is the best place woking has to offer, leave woking. it has a bowling alley and a laser quest attached to it. that should say it all. full of jailbait. I recommend asking any girl for ID first- just because she's drinking an alcopop, doesn't make her legal.

behavedave - 17 Jun 2005 11:41
Hmmm...i think that people punching each other whilst sober sums up this place. You can just imagine how good it is when they're drunk. However, it can be nice and chilled with decent drink prices (for a pub) if you go on a tues or wed-there's only as few non-chavs dancing and the music is bearable
anonymous - 21 Apr 2005 15:37
Bit of advice do not go there if ur sober cos it gets so crowded ud wanna punch people. U get a mixture of ppl, from ur typical chavs and chavettes to normal people. But its the best place in Woking for the young (although u do get ur fair share of old pervy men). Thursdays r wikkid. Dj's, most of the time, play wat u want. The music is varied and great. Its the place 2 go if u cant afford 2 go anywhere better, but its a laugh if ur friends r there and u wanna dance. Plus a HUGE bonus is the fit barman. He's stunning, best lookin guy ive ever seen in the flesh.
sweetsexychick - 17 Apr 2005 19:09
Actually Thursday nights are ok - perhaps i was a bit hasty. Music is good and atmosphere is a lot more relaxed than weekends and i do think that this has got a lot to do with the fact that the Chavs do go over the road for 1 drinks on Thursday nights.
anonymous - 23 Mar 2005 16:19
yeah nice with the refurb (screens etc.) and still amazin on saturday nights, some good deals and wkd music on thursdayz as well, definately worth checking out (rsvp across the road not bad but not nearly good enough to spend a whole night there, and especially not worth queuing to get in!). also sundays are absolutely awesome in chameleon now!
anonymous - 18 Mar 2005 18:48
Must be a different Chameleon from the one which i visited a few weeks ago. Chav and fight central in Woking. Only association the place "over the road" has with chavs is that you can view their fights that spill onto the streets from Chameleon through the window.
anonymous - 10 Mar 2005 16:34
Just had a bit of a refurb so it's much nicer to go and chill here, i only used to go in at the end of the night but now it's good to go earlier as there are loads of sofas and the drinks are much cheaper than anywhere else. Plus the DJs actually play your requests unlike most places!! Also, the chavs that used to inhabit the place seem to have moved to the bar opposite so u don't even have to put up with them!!
rip_saw - 23 Feb 2005 15:09
oh Chameleon. Anyone want a fight?? Chav infested, pikie filled scum hole of the earth. This is where all the kids end up after they've finished playschool (Rat & Parrot).
finnigan82 - 26 Jan 2005 13:37
If this is the number 1 place in town then that shows how crap woking is. Rubbish music, rubbish atmosphere and full of drunken chavs.
bs3jdb - 22 Nov 2004 10:40
look out for new dj on thursdays. previous one (me) was let go last week!
robbie f - 15 Nov 2004 15:09
something is happening to chameleon, where are all the people going i ask myself. saturday seems to be the only busy nite now. come on people come back to the number 1 venue in town, watch this space because something might just take your fancy in the near future.
anonymous - 6 Nov 2004 04:19
i Work here and we are just wandering what kind of reasonable offers in midweek you feel that you would like to see and that would make you come there often?
Staff - 20 Oct 2004 19:13
chameleon is, like many have said, a bar to finish the night. it's not great, it's about a fiver to get in and like most clubs it's packed. but what do you really expect? in any club fights break out, the bouncers deal with it and the night continues. the music is again standard club music, the alcohol is nothing special compared to anywhere else. chameleon is a club - it knows it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else. if you want a club, then great. if you don't then head off to a late-opening pub. it's not a difficult choice really is it?
captain - 6 Oct 2004 18:20
last thursday a lot more rnb played. any complaints? or do they want more party?
anonymous - 26 Sep 2004 16:17
Really cool place, thursdays seem to be getting really good, they've got some 3 VK for 5 and Aftershock for 1 deals now, which is better than any other plces on a thursday night...saturdays still awesome as well!
Dani - 23 Sep 2004 16:52
fights, fights and more fights at the weekend. Not bad if you are having a few midweek beers and fancy a drink after 11.
anonymous - 22 Sep 2004 20:31
look out for some drinks offers on a friday to co-incide with the 1.50 a drink till 10.30pm and free entry b4 10

anonymous - 21 Sep 2004 21:12
yeah, not a bad little place to finish the night at. Doesn't hold much back though, with lots of already very drunk binge drinkers finishing off their livers and getting a little out of hand in the streets. But it's not happening inside the venue anymore, so it's doing much better than 8-9 months ago.
anonymous - 20 Sep 2004 20:41
so the vodka promotion has gone on a thursday and now the bar has 3 bottles of vk for 5 and shots of aftershock for 1. the music is wicked top tunes backed up with great dj playing them and quality bar staff.
anonymous - 17 Sep 2004 09:58
I go here loads - cheapest place around. Drinks 1.50 til 10.30 every night, and all night on wed, cheaper on thurs.

I now know quite a few of the people that work there, top people and the DJ is a nutter.

Friendly place, haven't seen much violence, some sleezy guys and cheesy music but i always have a laugh!
michelle - 15 Sep 2004 10:22
the dj is rubbish on a thursday, we need someone else in there the only good thing is the vodka mixer at 1.
anonymous - 5 Sep 2004 20:40
Awesome place - top music, the place to be at the weekend + 1 Vodka Red Bull on thursday!!!
Steve - 5 Sep 2004 19:59
Chameleon is an awesome bar...saturday nigths are fantastic and it's always packed (says soemthing doesn't it!?) True it needs a refit but heard that may well be on the way soon...Also where else can you go in Surrey and get 1 for a Vodka Red Bull on a Thursday night and get some good dancing in!! Top place
anonymous - 5 Sep 2004 19:53
i def agree with patrick, the toilets are disgusting, the women have bigger beer bellys than the guys and the place is like an ice rink at the end of the night with the amount of slippery substances on the floor. this place is looking tired and needs a complete refit! oh yeah and why do the door crew insist of seeing every piece of i.d., even if you're over the age of 20 and look blatenly old enough, you still can't get in. and the managers are only just out of nappys themselves.come on, sort it out guys!
anonymous - 3 Sep 2004 13:12
OK, this place is chav central, come here if you enjoy your women to be ill-educated, plump and wearing more gold than a is strictly necessary or your guys to have the intellectual depth of mayonnaise, a penchent for burberry and mindless violence. If these things do not appeal to you then I can only advise you to avoid this place like the plague. At this time, reports that hepatitis B is rife in the the toilets.
PAtrick Bateman - 2 Sep 2004 13:00
minxy my dear..., WHAT?? Fair comment that the music is something that the young drinkers of woking can relate to, and people who are regulars to the areas have a good enough night out, which doesn't burn serious holes in pockets and bank accounts, all good things! But as for the violence.., I think you'd have to be looking at a wall, whilst standing in the corner not to notice the wanna-be-hard boyz of Woking who can't handle their booze and are looking for fights with each other, coz they are bothered that the few good looking women don't want nothing to do with their ugly hides! Whether it occurs outside of the bar, or in the bar, the last place people have come from for drinks is Chameleon, because the staff and door men do not know when to say NO.
anonymous - 5 Jul 2004 02:05
i'll totally disgree with people saying chameleon bar is rubbish! the music is really funky - its not garage- its chart stuff and its worth a visit if ur in town drinking! best way to experience it is with a group of mates who want to dance as it gets so busy you can't just stand around :-)
Their much tighter with the people they let in now - i've never seen any trouble and its getting a better reputation because of it!
Minxy - 21 May 2004 16:50
Avoid this place at all cost - crap music and crap drinks.. Don't you wonder why the last 3 "Pro" entries are all anon??
Total cattlemarket and Burburry cap posse hangout
Colin - 23 Apr 2004 13:54
everyone seems to have something bad to say about chameleon, but if it's really that bad then how come you can guarantee that it will be heaving most nights of the week. It's a good bar with good music, a top system and some competitive drinks deals. Best of all, an electric atmosphere, this is not a pipe and slippers kind of bar!
anonymous - 23 Apr 2004 02:27
it is a wkd place any nite of the week top totty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anonymous - 22 Apr 2004 23:03
getting a new sound system this week (3/10/03) and will be christened on friday night. nget down the joint for a wicked soundin' music fest!
anonymous - 30 Sep 2003 13:39
Join the ranks of the garage listening, white collar/cuff wearing, 'wanna' fight' brigade. Come and see the cream of Woking's youth and be sure you'll never want to venture into this dreadful hovel again.
Matt Goodman - [email protected] - 20 Aug 2003 02:53
this place is just a cramp brightly lit catwalk of a bar, inwhich loud-mouthed members of woking's young strut about like a pack of trainer-obsessed peacocks ordering expensive beers and braying insincere, ignorant horseshit at one another over the sound of a local dj's utterly pedestrian mixing
john morton - [email protected] - 19 Aug 2003 05:36
Top bar for pulling!
Jamie Warner - [email protected] - 16 Aug 2003 20:08
absolute shite place ! saturdays in Md's ( opposite Goldsworth Arms ) is the new place to be at, the women are fine ! easy to pull and open 'till, funky ass music. wicked night had by all. i have never been so pissed !
anonymous - 8 Aug 2003 15:53
after a few pints at spoons chameleon only place to go
Danny - 28 Jul 2003 22:52
anon 11 jun, agree totally but being one of the djs on a weekend, the crowd dont go for anything new!
anonymous - 11 Jun 2003 20:42
Dull, dull, dull. Same music for the past few years, same faces in the crowd, same old, same old.
anon - 11 Jun 2003 09:50
might well have the same dj's and same music, but if management don't wanna hire any well known dj's what can we do!!!!!. make suggestions to michael appleton!!!!
anonymous - 29 May 2003 20:53
always the same faces, with the same music, done by the same guys!! ZZZZzzzzzzz. Weekly offers on drinks are probably the only reason worth going for! Would recommend hiring some better looking bar staff, (not all, just some!!) But if you've got nothing better to do, and your already pissed, you'll probably end up in there.., I'd recommend the rat and parrot myself!
anonymous - 25 May 2003 03:25
Its a bar with good music playing and nice comfy sofas and friendly staff and cheapish drinks i recommend the shooters at a pound. wicked atmosphere and godd for 18 - 25 bracket
