This is the best pub in Brighton but dont try walking from the center.
My uncle Ian goes in here every day. Great lager.

We first visited this pub last Sunday and were made very welcome by the landlord and his wife. Tried four different beers and they were great.

Will definitely return.

I use this pub occasionally, but I've found that the beer quality has gone down over the past few months.
Also, stay away on a Tueday, absolute dreadful open mike, over loud, out of tune pensioners, that can't even read their song sheets properly.

My 3rd visit to this pub a few days before Easter. Oh dear, what a shame. Not that many beers on offer. Otter ran out, Old Hooky ran out and virtually all that was available was dark beer. My mate had a pint of something or other dark stuff and left over half of it, it went flat inside 5 minutes. I hope its simply a victim of its own success rather than a pub starting the slippery slope of demise. Very disappointed having made the effort to get to this out of the way pub. Not sure I'll bother next time.

great pub, cosy, very friendly regulars, good selection of beers for the connoisseurs of ale drinking - worth a visit if you are in the area.

Made a special journey here; not up to the hype; gloomy, depressing decor, dining room chairs circa 1970, no decent strenghth draught ale on tap that day; never again

Only came to the place because I was doing the Ale Trail. What a find ! Superb selection of ales. Only problem was they are not open all day so I joined the queue outside till they did. So glad I waited.

alf123 - 22 Aug 2009 16:09
One thing to note if you intend searching this pub out is that it doesn't open until 3pm on weekdays. They are running a beer festival this weekend 12th - 14th June.

Quite simply the finest pub in the area. Great selection of well kept ales, always changing. Friendly staff.

Old school, back street pub ! Brilliant.

How we love The Stanley.

What a great pub! Friendly staff, excellent beers - a really good choice of real ales, with 4 different ones every time you go in. Also good choice of lager, cider etc available for those that want it, bit the main thing is the very high quality of the real ale.

Good beer festivals every few months, friendly environment with quite a mixed group of people where anyone would feel welcome.

Only thing stopping it getting a 10 is sometimes the tables could be cleaner, but as long as it doesn't get too bad, who cares?

Popped in Easter Sunday, Hog Roast in garden and five ales to choose from, Hophead was in excellent condition and as a complete contrast so was the Irving Admiral Stout, always made to feel welcome.

I'm lucky enough to live about a mile from this great pub. Over the years I've introduced my mates to the delights of this "proper pub". The Stanley Arms has a Friendly landlord, friendly and knowledgable staff, friendly regulars and locals and an everchanging selection of five real ales always in good condition, served in oversized glasses and you can always have a taste before you buy. My only quibble is Dark Star beers are'nt on often enough, but that's the only fault I have. Keep up the good work.[ Oh and it's great for watching England games in a Chav free environment!]

Itchin Valley Fagins, St Austell Tribute, Hydes MumboJumbo, Arundel ASB (lish), Skinners Betty Stoggs. Previously reviewed, still a very good local pub, busy & chatty yesterday, lots of punters watching England rugby team rather put to the sword. I hadnt realised that there is another fairly large but quieter room beyond what turns out to be the central servery, no pumps on that side. Struggled to find it 1st visit last year, but if you take the footpath from Fishersgate station, continue across Manor Hall Rd, then take the 3rd set of steps on the right (Stanley Rd), youre sorted!

Great little local boozer, decent ale, some from local micros, nice freindly staff, well worth the trip out from Brighton
Alfnoax - 10 Sep 2008 21:02
Added to yesterday's Brighton crawl (10mins on train) and struck lucky as there was a beer festival in full swing, some 20 or so to choose from. Local camra poty 7 times in the last 10yrs, great stuff.
trainman - 15 Jun 2008 08:42
Friendly local pub, beers were in good condition - a real find!
farmersboy - 5 Mar 2008 10:38
Proper community pub with pub decor. Thatchers cider is on sale most of the time. If that is off, there is still Old Rosie. TV screens could be distracting in the Public Bar.

fabulous, great beer great time
lancing - 24 Jan 2008 21:01
If you like real community pubs that have not been mucked around then you will love the Stanley. Backstreet local which serves an ever changing range of excellent real ales as well as holding regular beer festivals. Friendly locals and if you sit at the bar you will usually end up in a conversation with someone. definitely worth seeking out.
Brewshed - 7 Jan 2008 17:40
A little harder to find than it would seem on the map but worth a hop off the train if passing. Good variety of handpulled beers offered Sharps Cornish Coaster, Dark Star Original, Hampshire Pride of Romsey, Itchen Valley Hampshire Rose, 1648. Posters of other breweries suggested that the rotation would be equally good with representations for Cotleigh, Timothy Taylor, Hydes, Ringwood. Great local feel, very chatty atmosphere, football showing on 2 small tvs & a large plasma. Dark wood floor, bandit, dartboard, very comfortable pub with great beer.

We got here and found it closed, but did come back in opening time. So glad we did. What a truly brilliant friendly local pub. Great beers, great staff and great customers. We were strangers and were made so welcome.
gillhalfpint - 5 Jun 2007 10:35
This has recently been named as the local CAMRA Pub of the Year for 2007. Congratulations one and all - well deserved.
southdown12jack - 4 Apr 2007 14:43

Quality drinking pub.
hrse12 - 31 Jul 2006 23:32
You don't often find a pub as good as this. The beers are always interesting from the smaller breweries. Not only are the landlord and staff friendly, so are the customers. I am not the most gregarious of people, but I always end up talking to someone in this pub.
southdown12jack - 31 Mar 2006 14:15
How a local should be.
Uncle_Dunkel - 24 Feb 2006 17:02
