user reviews of the Rose, Vauxhall

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Stunned. Not stunning but stunned.
I rank on the beer (which surely this site is all about) and then the ambience. I can't get as far as the ambience.
I'd give this a negative mark if I could. One of my worst pub experiences in 35 years.
So back to the beer, bloody cold and that Sharps nonsense. £4.10, I can just about live with that. I see they have a Sharp's Australasian IPA. WTF is this? Perhaps compare it with a cumquat (Aussie spelling) cider?
So I switch to Guiness in desparation.
A final half and so I have some blonde beer on tap. That can't be more than a fiver a pint I naievely think, not even considering that I should ask. When they charged me £4.90 a half (ie £9.80 a pint) I naturally thoughh that they had keyed it in wrongly in the till. Cue a rather heated argument involving me refusing to pay, the landlord telling me that it was hand crafted by an Artesan that had lived in the same village for 300 years, and that the yeast was from the armpits of the brewer's spouse. Rather than from some chemical factor. I'll be going to Oslo to drink in future.
Shocked.
Perhaps the fact than nobody has said anything about this pub on this site for five years says something.
I have just got back to find the regulations covering displaying drinks prices have been watered down, so no moan to trading standards for me.

Was in this pub several times over the weekend and had a good time each one. Good food, reasonable prices, friendly staff especially upstairs. Great views from the upstairs informal restaurant. Mad music and dancing on Friday, chill out dancey on Saturday evening. Highly recommend.

Just found this gem of a pub, its got to be one of the best river side pubs in London. Top grub, Good Value and a lovely warm atmosphere in this beautiful setting - I will def be back again soon A+++++++

Avoid. The ale is pretty good and on first impressions this place looks promising but, sadly, the terrible food and service lets it down.

I've been twice at lunchtime midweek and will never go again. The first time it took well over an hour to get the food we ordered. The food itself was ok but nothing special considering the price.

On the second visit I reluctantly ordered a simple burger and chips. This was much quicker to arrive but it was quite literally burnt to a cinder and inedible. Nor was mine the only one. Every plate I saw leave the kitchen looked the same. How a 'chef' can have the nerve to put that on a plate and send it to a table is beyond me.

The attitude from the surly, stressed out staff completes the picture.

This may or may not be purely due to their inability to handle the lunchtime rush but is that an excuse now really?

Shame.

Good lunchtime pub. Good food - a little bit pricey - but this is London. No draught beer though.

A good reason for going to an off licence.

Our group was treated with utter contempt by the managers. Despite plenty of telephone conversations letting them know when the size of our group shrunk, our agreement to pay a booking fee for the space, and keeping in touch with them about the details, as soon as my party of 40 people began to arrive we were asked to leave because "we're not going to make enough money from you." Nothing could justify their rudeness, total refusal to compromise or negotiate any reasonable solution (all they would say to my every suggerstion is "you have to leave") and their eventual refusal even to let our guests know about the new location we had moved to. I was appalled and would discourage anyone from having anything to do with these psychos.

The ambience of The Rose has always been wonderful for me. Great chill out grooves playing at just the right volume and excellent quality food. The prices here are very reasonable, especially considering its' great setting by the river. Staff are always polite and courteous, even if their spoken English isn't always the best.

Altogether a fine drinking, eating and chilling experience.

I strongly advise against going to this pub. The staff completely screwed up the booking for the reservation that my group had made. When the person who had made the reservation tried to explain that we had agreed to pay a flat fee for the reservation and not to guarantee a minimum drinks order, they demanded that we leave. As I was waiting on the pavement outside to tell latecomers that the group had gone elsewhere, a member of staff came out and threatened me with violence unless I moved to the other side of the street.

Full of minor civil servents; all drunk. Where they get the money? Dark, latin style cocktail bar. Makes a change from Police pub of past; how many back handers past those days paying off mortgages?
Only Bass on draft; so walk on by.

Thought this was going to be a pricey place as the decor suggests that, however they have some great drinks specials (half price pitchers) at the beginning of the week. Service was excellent and the attention to detail in making the cocktails was amazing. I highly recommend the Mojito and Bloody Marys there. All in all a very nice place.

My office just moved right beside The Rose, and its very convenient for me to go there both for lunch and happy hours.

I like to site in the upper room, called river view bar for lunch time! Last Thursdays I had a traditional bangers and mash with onion gravy and my other friend fish and chips, we both looking at the Parliament building! You can't get more English than that!

Thursdays and Fridays are usually full! Nice to get ready for the weekend, listening to the DJ and having a couple of drinks.

No beer. No customers. IT ISN'T F***ING ROCKET SCIENCE.

I visited this pub on a Saturday evening and, given its prime location, was surprised to discover it was almost completely empty. On closer inspection I found that although a wide range of lagers were available, they sold no bitter at all. In my view a pub without beer is like a library with no books, or a zoo with no animals. I won't be going back.
