BitterShurn's review still holds true - it's quite easy to miss the bar and dining room and walk out again, but persist and give it a go. Colleagues of mine have used the accommodation here, giving high marks for quality and pretty good food. Beer quality is surprisingly high given that this is hardly a high turnover bar, more a hotel/restaurant with bar attached.

More accurately, the bar of a hotel. Two friends of mine walked up, found it shut and were walking away when the barman came out to open the front door (this was at about 1400). I limped in an hour later to find it deserted, except for said barman. The television, internet and Radio 3 were all on at the same time, something of a sensory overload after 11 miles of meadows and river bank. Brakspear was the only ale, but was pleasant enough. There were about 20 spirit bottles. Space age toilets from an Ideal Home exhibition. Tiled floor and Ikea bright furniture. Not bad at all, just very strange.

I've driven past this pub on numerous occasions at different times of the day and night, but have yet to see it open.

We were first into the pub, early one Saturday lunchtime. Only one real ale on (Hooky bitter), but it was in excellent condition. More a food place than a drinker's pub, but right on the Thames path, so useful stop-off point for walkers.

Great food and friendly service. It doesn't look much from the outside, but give it a try. The accomodation is excellent too.

Was going to Shillingford for my cousin's wedding reception, so looked on this website - got excited about this review, so decided to go up early and visit the pub. Got there at 1800hrs, an hour before being due at the reception, only to find it didn't open until 1900hrs!!

Don't be put off by the somewhat austere outside appearance - this place is a real gem. Cask ale, comfortable rooms and superb food. Owners are the epitome of friendly hospitality. Definitely going back. Giving it 10/10 because the ratings don't go any higher.
