please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

As dead as a dodo on Friday evening. Cheap, torn furniture doesn't help. Windjammer Bitter, Dartmoor Legend and Red Rock Devon Coast were the 3 ales; my Devon Coast was thin but OK. My wife's wine was disgusting. In need of investment I would suggest in order to attract custom.

OK pub but nothing special but probably the pick of the bunch. We had Red Rock brewery Devon Coast.

I think this pub must have gone downhill a bit since the last review, gone are all the flowers on the out side and the interior is really scruffy with split upholstery on most of the chairs and just a general need for a refurb, we where in mid July and there were only about 8 people in total, and we probably would have gone else where if it wouldn't have looked so obvious, having said that we took a chance and the food and ale were both perfectly acceptable, but it lacked atmosphere and the rickety furniture was not too comfortable

This is a decent pub.
I liked the interior especially the bar which is shaped like a ship.
A lovely fire was roaring and the place was quiet.
A good selection of ales too.
This is one of the better pubs in Dartmouth and i would pop in here again.

8/10

Called in during half term. Saturday afternoon and we were the only customers. Beer was OK, radio was playing a nice mix of music but that's it.

Shame about stevetheman's review. We were in during half term when it could have been disaster but the bar staff were great as was the beer, but the really great thing was that we could do that old fashioned thing....hold a conversation... and not end up with sore throats. Lovely pub.

As the landlord here may I respond to the post below.

I'm horrified that the poster had such a poor experience and that we didn't have the opportunity to address the situation at the time. I've subsequently tried contacting the poster through BITE because I'd like to find out what we did wrong, if only to try not to do it again. So if you're back in Dartmouth anytime, stevetheman, please pop in and see us - we're all for constructive criticism.

Terrible. Beer and Food just very bad, many other pubs in the town to choose from, so we wont visit again

Very nice pint of Dartmoor IPA but didnt stay long as unfortunately the red leather seating dcor is not to my taste. Shame, because the beer was.

To be fair I have only visited on Sunday afternoons in July/August when it can be a bit of a gastro creche. I would generally echo much of the comments below and suspect it could have a good atmosphere when there is music on or there are less tourists around (err, like me I guess !! ) . Three real ales (I think) including Dartmoor IPA and Bass, nicely kept.

A very pleasant visit and the the beer options were fine. Lamdlord friendly and chatty quite late in a midweek evening. Like the choice of Radio Sation too and very original play method! A good option to the adjacent pubs.

Ditto the previous review. Was a great ale house, but lost interest. Did have great food but ambitions outstripped capability. Good atmosphere when there's a decent crowd of locals, but that's all too rare unfortunately.

A very friendly pub, generally quieter than its neighbours, which is no bad thing. The interior has an unusual nautical theme, created long before the idea of theme pubs was common. Used to boast a regularly changing and wide-ranging cast of guest beers (easily the best Real Ale pub in the area, in fact), but now you'll find Dartmoor and Royal Oak and that's it. This shift has been mirrored in the once-excellent menu which has recently become pretentious and comparatively expensive.

Not the prettiest of pubs in town although the flower display outside is fantastic in the summer. Slightly shabby inside but has superb beers, excellent food and charming bar staff. I consider it to be one of the best pubs around. Sometimes has excellent enertainment during music week and the odd quiz night. Very friendly place.
