please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After a visit to the Ty Mawr Hotel in Llanbedr (not listed on BITE), we arrived in Barmouth and decided to have dinner in the Tal-Y-Don, a Marston's establishment. Ales were Banks's Amber Ale & Sunbeam & Ringwood Forty Niner. Staff were friendly and the food was reasonable. From here, I moved onto the Royal Hotel which had appalling service and a Robbie Williams tribute act, followed by the best pub/bar in town - the Tilman. Neither are listed on BITE.

A week away (Tuesday afternoon)

Could be the same staff as a previous post, not really a good idea to concentrate on regulars when there's a good number of visitors already waiting - first impressions and all that?? A Banks' beer renamed in honour of the Wolves manager was ok.

Preferred the Royal Hotel (not listed - how do you nominate a pub?) just down the road GBG listed.

Decent beer and food but let down by miserable and unwelcoming staff.

Plenty of seating inside and out. Beer garden out the back. Jennings Cumberland was ok, as was the Marston bitter. Food was decent on the night we ate. A decent pub all things considered.

A hot sunny day good seating outside front and back, got to the bar, no welcome greeting the bar maid looked misserable and was also rude, but when my partner (male im female) went to the bar she actually managed to crack a smile, the lager was flat the locals a group of older generation men were, to put it politely pervs plus the toilets were a mess. Glad to say we wont be returning!

A pretty decent pub in the centre of town. Real ale (Jennings Cumberland Ale when we visited) plus the usual. Pleasant staff, good location.

Good pub serving 4 ales and decent dry white wine (according to the missus). Had pint of Cockerhoop and another Jennings beer. Very nice. Outside seating with sun (assuming it's sunny) all day.

This is a smallish traditional pub on the main High Street in Barmouth.

I found it to be comfortable and pleasant, if somewhat unremarkable. There's a L shaped bar with different drinking areas. There's plenty of old interesting photos of Barmouth to admire. It's bears branding as a Burtonwood pub.

4 real ales were on during my recent early evening visit - Jennings Crag Rat and Cumberland, Hobgoblin and, surprisingly, Ringwoods Old Thumper. My pint of Jennings Crag Rat - served in a John Smiths Extra Smooth branded glass - was in good form, but pehaps, at 2.90p, more expensive than I might have expected.

The pub provides lunches and has several rooms for B + B.

I got the impression that this pub was doing a reasonably good job of catering for both visitors to the resort and locals at the same time.

In a town desperately lacking in pubs of any description, this one does exactly what it says on the tin and would appear to be your best bet in Barmouth.

Welcoming pub in the centre of Barmouth with four handpumps selling real ales. 1 Jennings, 2 Marstons & 1 Ringwood last weekend. Quality not brilliant but all drinkable. Good mix of locals and tourists.

Excellent pub serving fine ales (Titanic White Star for one) and quality food which is worth going their alone for.

Pub created a friendly atmosphere which enable locals and holidaymakers to get on well in a relaxed atmosphere especially over the pool table! Erm I had better re-phrase that.

Best pub in Barmouth by a mile.
