We only popped in here for a quick beer but the two real ales we tried were both tired and one was way above it's ideal serving temperature. Hopefully this was just a blip.

Lovely village pub. Food and ale were both very good indeed. Two large outdoor seating areas (decking on front, large garden to the side). Well worth seeking out.

Well it took us six years, but we finally made it back to this pub - and it was every bit as good as I remember. The hostel next door is still there, but this time I took the wife and we stayed in the inn itself.
3 real ales on tap, one of which is always �2.00 a pint! Rev James, Butty Bach (apparently the locals' favourite) and Tournament - I tried all 3 (just to be sure) and they were all excellent.
The accommodation was lovely (and very reasonably priced), the meals, including breakfast, were all great, the staff were very friendly and the location is just perfect. Definately worth a visit.

We stayed here 2 nights whilst visiting the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. It was great value accommodation and my friends enjoyed all the real ales on offer. I'm a Guinness man and that was very good too. The landlady, Michelle, was a real star, even getting up at 5-30am to give us breakfast before we set off to enjoy the golf. We were entertained in the evenings by a folk band who were staying in the Lodge - low budget accommodation attached to the main pub. A really enjoyable couple of nights.

Pleasant enough interior(if not classic architecturally) with lots of old (mining?)memorabillia hanging off the walls and ceilings. And a collection of very old cameras on the pleasant fireplace. Also beer garden to the rear. Seems to be ticking all the right boxes without trying too hard. An honest enough pub.

We visited, Saturday evening 10th Oct 2009.
There were 14 of us in our party.
We were put in their TV room, which we had to ourselves, however, this was not in character with the pub. Aviod this room if you can, at all costs.
The pub itself on the other hand, was good and we enjoyed the beer. Landlady very sociable.
But, the food !! Oh dear..............
The consensus of opinion was, a place to avoid eating in.
I had the Lamb Shank, meat very tough and only half of it was edible, sauce was like wall paper glue and so little of it. My wife had the 'Pan fried Sirloin', there was no evidence that it was pan fried, just a grey lump of dry meat on her plate. Our potatoes were under-cooked, the rest of the vegatables very bland and over cooked.
I will not pass on comments from the others in our party, maybe they will add their own reviews.
We could have complained I know, (maybe we've got the British disease of not complaining !!). But we had spent all day out walking in the forest and were just starving.
I will not be so lenient with any managment in the future.

Real ale pub conveniently located just across the road from the Dean Forest Railway Parkend station. Yesterday they had Wye Valley Butty Bach and Brains's The Rev James, which I believe are their regulars. It is a lovely quiet pub where you can just relax and chat with a pint with music at a pleasant background level. Black and white pictures adorn the walls showing the original freight line and trains that used to run past here. We caught the steam train back to Lydney Town where we called into the re-opened Cross Keys pub for a meal and pint of Warwickshire FFiagra 3.8%.

A pleasant inn at the end of a preserved railway line. Plenty of outdoor seating, and a comfortable interior. Three real ales were available on our visit, which tasted fine, even on a hot day.

Stayed in a Youth Hostel next door to this pub and made it our local for the weekend. We all fell in love with the place (and the landlady!) and plan to go back next year.

An excellent pub with well kept real ale, including the local 'Freeminer'. Excellent food as well.
