A good pub gone downhill dye to a mad crazy rude owner!! She refused to serve us food at 6pm on a wednesday night as we had four young children (aged 6/7) with us!! We were sitting outside and she said it was bothering the other customers (3!) we've spent so much money in the past in there but will never ever ever go there again!! I'm glad inthus day and age she can afford ri turn good (regular) business away!!

I have to aggree with the last comment on here, I was totally saddened and even shocked to see how this once great pub has seriously gone to the dogs! it now attracts the same crowd that you might expect in a loud, townie bar with brash women wearing 'dresses' waaaay too short, and men who swear in front of them. I like places with class...which this place most certainly has NOT got! anymore.

After an afternoon's shopping my daughter and I called in here for a relaxing drink at around 5.00pm today. This was our first visit since Xmas 2008. We entered the pub into what turned out to be the dining area so I turned to go left up some steps into the bar area. A member of staff immediately asked "Are you alright there?" which was a bit surprising as we had only just walked in. I said "I'm just looking for the bar" and she said "It's closed". My daughter said, "Well can we have a drink in here then?" and she said yes, so I walked over to see what real ales they had. While I was looking the member of staff went off to have a word with an old woman with blonde hair, who then snapped at us "We're closed"! I said "Oh". I was astonished as people were still eating and drinking in there and we had just been told we could have a drink. I remarked that there were people drinking outside and she said "We are closed". I asked what time they would open and she said they would not be open for us and told us to leave. Absolutely stunned by the woman's rudeness we went outside and sat down, whereupon a male member of staff came out and told us we had 5 minutes to leave or he would call the police. When I asked why he said it was because we were not fit to be served. I have never been so insulted and treated so disgustingly badly anywhere and would warn any potential visitors of the very weird and severe attitude problem in this pub. Disgraceful.

To be fair the beer in this place has improved. Choice of 4 beers last night, Brakspear, Adnams bitter, Hobgoblin was good and the Shepherd Neame Cantebury Jack was excellent.

The best beer of our mini-tour round Ironbridge last Saturday evening. Nice pints of Brakespear and Woods Shropshire Lad. A very good Glam Rock band were on playing some classsic 70's stuff. Very pleasant atmosphere and a nice evening.

Sad that "the Malthouse" only had one local beer on tap and this ran out after we had drunk one pint on a Saturday afternoon!

Didnt enjoy this at all. poor beer served in dirty glasses when we visited last week. Food is overpriced and very very average (5.50 for some bread and oil). The "jazz bar" feels dingy and a bit grubby. staff seemed frosty as if they were doing you a favour. Not my cup of tea

Changed hands again... 3 Cask Ales on The Rev. James very nice, also had Hobgoblin and ESB on. They had an Open mic night on Wednesday when I visited, nice atmosphere.

For some reason this pub is painted bright yellowy orange. Its a large pub with two lounges/bars. Obviously aimed at the tourist and dining trade as it certainly doesnt have the feel of a pub. The bar serving cask ale is to the left of the door, it has 3 handpumps but only Bombardier was on and that wasnt very good either. The right hand lounge is decorated with hearts/pouting lips type memorabilia. It would be fine for Valentines day but just looked cheesy to me. Cant think of any reason why I would ever visit this place again.

Looked like the staff were walking off with the fixtures and fittings, but apparently a new owner is refurbishing. No atmosphere hopefully will improve.

I love this pub. It has a nice layout and a friendly atmosphere - even better when there's a band playing. Its just a shame that the indifferent ale keeping lets it down. The Directors bitter I had last August was flat and bland.

My husband and I spent the weekend there 9-11 July. We had a great time with really nice accommodation and terrific food in the restaurant. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. We would be delighted to recommend the place to anyone.

The Malthouse is split into two parts, The "jazz Bar" and The "restaurant"
The restaurant offers a different menu and a more relaxed "casual" atmosphere, rooms also available with en-suite facilities.

It's a large pub, serves pretty pricey beer (for the area) but has a good atmosphere, nice pub food and has Jazz bands on. Lovely inside as well.
