please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub hasn't been reviewed for a few years but it appears that little has changed. The locals still stare at you in a slightly disconcerting way as you walk in and if it was a “bit tatty” ten years ago it is rather more so now. A bit of a time machine, but not necessarily in a good way – just add some cigarette smoke and it could be 40 years ago. Food failed to live up to the expectations suggested by the menu description – edible but far from special. 3 hand pumps: London Pride / Tribute / Courage. Beer was clear but slightly past its best – which rather sums up the whole place.

This is a very old pub 1610 approx. that has never ever changed its name, thats unique in itself, beer is tip top ,food is mostly home cooked, sunday lunches cheap and good, over all a very good friendly pub. Best rgds. Gunner, witney .

Falls somwhere between 'well preserved' and 'a bit tatty', probably egding to the former. Three handpumps - John Smiths (rare in these parts), Doom Bar and another which I've forgotten. Active darts team, chripy parrot, slightly unhelpful staff, but a fairly solid boozer.

Like stepping back in time. Horse brasses. Pictures of military aircraft and hunting scenes on the wall. Oldish regulars who dress up to come to the pub. Domino games taken very seriously. Filled rolls and pickled eggs for sale behind the bar. And they have a parrot. It is in a lovely part of the town, so the worry is that someone might try to turn it into a gastro pub not always a bad thing, but a tragedy in this instance. I play for the town cricket club and we drink here after games. Standing looking at Wood Green with a pint and talking about the game is a real joy. This place is just right.

This is a serious pub in a beautiful part of Witney. Certainly old witha bar, lounge and a separate area for the health fascists. Does bar snacks at lunchtime and the London Pride was excellently kept. Very freindly landlord, landlady and barmaid. Chatty customers created a really good atmosphere. A fine example of how to maintain a traditional pub. Once again another fine fine pub not in the Camra Beer Guide. What's going on?

This is a picturesque, old-world pub in a quiet part of the town. It is worth a visit, but has never attracted much enthusiasm from the real ale fans.
