I second to the cocktail heaven! Love the minimal decor. Coffee is decent, too. Whenever I've gone there, it has been super busy yet the staff have been in control. It's small, it's sweaty, it's cosy, it's a social experience when busy. I don't particularly like the area of Covent Garden so Freud is my must when there. It's not a secret or a hidden gem anymore, but who can blame - it would be stupid not to share a good thing.

Freuds is cocktail heaven. Tiny, permanently crowded, industrial, friendly, rank toilets (the mens is practically outside in a lean-to under the stairs, which can be quite perilous in the depths of winter), lovely, wonderful, heavenly cocktails. Everyone has their favourite, mine is the Pimlico. The Long Island Iced Tea will get you loaded just by glancing in its direction.

Surprisingly, its also quite nice during the daytime, when it is not particularly crowded, and sells light food and coffee (though they will, of course, also make you a cocktail its what they do).

I well like this place. We went, she had the soup and i had the homous. It was well nice. And the cocktails were nice and big and affordably priced. Will visit again, I'll probably have the soup next time, not that it's any of your business.

You'll queue for a while to get a drink. The bar top is constantly wet and the seating is limited. Here's the catch. The drinks are awesome and loaded (try the Cheeky Monkee), the locals and visitors are friendly and the bar staff are crazy. You'll not want to leave and will awake with a hangover to rival any previous ones and you'll go back. Trust me!

Freud Bar is most easiliy spotted from the street by the astonishing creeper that wends its way up three storeys and then down the other side - all one plant, like a Big Mama Triffid.

Down the black metal stairs to the basement bar, which feels surprisingly warm and cosy despite the brutalist raw concrete decor.

In the daytime its restful, with free Guardians and great homemade soup for 3.50. In the evenings it fills up early with a fashionable but friendly youngish crowd. Original art on the walls changes monthly and is usually pretty good.

The bar staff might appear a tad surly occasionally but in fact are taking their work seriously - they are master cocktail-makers, and even the non-alcoholic cream soda and Freud's Lemonade are worth trying. Bottled beers and regular drinks are at very acceptable prices considering this is Covent Garden, darling.

A tip: in the evening, get there early, or be prepared to have to hover and pounce in order to get a table for you and your mates.
