Reasonable, simple pub a short distance away from the centre of Wells, in a quiet location next to the main road. Didn't try the food but looked like simple fayre; Considering the location and lack of sophistication in the venue, the beer was pretty expensive. Almost £4 for a pint of Wherry (August 2019). Can't remember the other ales...one of them was GK though. OK, but nothing particularly memorable.

Not a pub that you feel comfortable in if you just want a pint, the pint I had was very good tho'. The place was heaving when I went and the staff could not handle the pace. A few quid cheaper than the upmarket Buttlands area pubs but not enough to entice me to try their food. The Bowling Green struck me as very peculiar because it is in many ways Well's most pubby looking pub inside and out but alas it has decided to be an eatery.5/10.

The food was very good, lots of it, and reasonably priced, the Beers were well kept and poured, all in all the best in Wells-NTS.

Good pub for traditional food supplemented by well kept Wherry. One large L shaped room around the bar with a stove fireplace. Worth a visit if you're eating in the area.

Forgive the pun, but I wasn't bowled over by this place. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the Woodforde's Wherry well kept, but we were relegated to a table by the drafty doorway and the only menu was on the board above out table so we had lots of people standing near us, peering over our heads to read the menu, which was rather off-putting. The steak and kidney pie with chips was excellent, but the vegetables were terrible and over-boiled. It did appear to be "Pensioners' Tuesday" which didn't do much for the atmosphere. All in all, I'd probably come back, but just not on a tuesday lunchtime.

The best Pub that I visited whilst in Wells for both food and drink. The usual GK selection including St Edmunds and Abbot as well as the inevitable IPA, along with Wherry. Wherry was well kept as was the Abbot which is the only GK beer i will drink. Food was excellent, hot, plentiful and reasonably priced and I would recommend the Pub and its friendly staff to anyone visiting the area. Advisable to book a table for food and Tuesday' s have a 'two courses for �5 offer for Pensioners.

agree with below, good fun pub and decent food, selection of real hand pumped ales.
they try to not join the deep frier march. 7-10 mins walk from sea on the way there........have to pass the globe on the way back

Great little pub. We have been here many times. Not the easiest to find, but well worth looking for.
Woodforde's Nelsons Revenge on a hand pump, very nice. Shame about the Greene King IPA though.
The food is good. Try the ham. It is proper ham off the bone, not the reconsituted elastoplast you get from the supermarkets.

A cracking little homely pub on the outskirts of the town, opposite the church.
Good home cooked food and some decent beer as well, along with friendly staff.
Well worth a visit .
