In the wasteland that is Eccles, one searches for a suitable alehouse but it is an often thankless task. Therefore it was a pleasure to discover this old fashioned, no frills establishment on the main drag, providing ales from the Sam Smiths chain.

I opted for the extra stout instead of the OBB and at 2.05 a pint it was certainly worth it. Four smallish rooms that have a scruffy appeal, this is a pub that has aged naturally and lacks any kind of pretension, comfortable with its time worn feel. Good service and lively locals add to the enjoyment.

Pub with plenty of character. Friendly staff and locals. Well worth a visit and in Samuel Smiths tradition great value for money.

Sam Smiths pub with OBB on handpull. The 4 separate small rooms are all fairly authentic. There are 2 either side of the entrance. Only the one on the left has access to the bar. Most locals were congregating here. Further back, there is another room to one side of a corridor and a lounge at the rear. There is also a patio garden. Old pictures of Salford and Eccles can be viewed on the walls. The original tiling on the floor is impressive.

Nice old pub with multiple rooms worth exploring. It has a comfortable and laid back feel to it and the interior is well presented.

Exemplary example of a Sam Smiths town pub; much better than the many Holts pubs around here. Bitter still tastes a bit sour for my taste in recent years, but I finf Sams do lager than most

A really nice Sam Smiths pub. Stone flagged floor. Good cheap ale, dart board, no smoking room, and outside area for the 3 hot dry days that Eccles gets every year. Friendly staff and very clean (no mean feat in Eccles). Nice black and white pics on the wall showing Eccles in days of yore when civic pride existed and there wasn't legions of aggressive youths fighting in the streets every single night. CAMRA Manchester magazine on sale.
