user reviews of the Tower Hotel, Talgarth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Tower Hotel is an imposing building. But I'm really not sure if it is open or not. The pathway to the bar entrance was overgrown and didn't look as if it had been used for a few months. A notice on the door stated that the pub was closed. However lights were on at the side of the building near the Carvery entrance. But the door was locked. I was told by another licensee that the place now only opens on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Their website confirms it is open on these days. But this was around 4pm on a Sunday and it was already closed, despite the website saying it closed at 6! I tried calling. But the telephone just rang and rang. A shame. But it's a 0/10 from me.

Annual visit to Talgarth whilst son kayaks nearby. Refurbishment in progress so did not try food, but beer all excellent and good choice: Rotters Grounds for Divorce (brewed on premises) Newmans Red Stag Bitter and Wickwar Rite Flanker all terrific. Licensee and locals as welcoming as ever. Pool and darts available, and a quiet room for those not interested in music or TV. Plcae always looks closed from the outside, but if in Talgarth pop in.

Again in town whilst son kayaking locally. Full of locals and a friendly welcome from all. Microbrewery completed since my visit last year, and Rotters Brewery Grounds for Divorce very tasty, as was Brecon County Ale. A great pub.

Myself and my boyfriend occasionally pop in the Tower for a bite to eat and somtimes on a Saturday night. Good atmosphere for a good night out. My boyfriend likes it because he's a CAMRA member and there's always a few Real ales on tap. Food is also good value and very tasty!

Visited several times whilst staying in Talgarth for a week with family, whilst son was canoeing on the nearby River Usk. Friendly welcome and given a quick tour of microbrewery under construction. Show sports on telly in one part of bar where there is also a pool table. At present food only avaiable at weekends though this may change. As a CAMRA member I appreciate good beer, and the Evan Evans Best and Cwrw beers were in tip top condition. Looks a little bleak from the outside, but well worth the walk through the door!

Always been a fan of this place since the current owners took it on. Have stayed at the tower many times and have always been made to feel very welcome. On my last visit i found that they are about to install their own micro brewery to allow them to brew their own ales. Just another reason to keep going back.
