Sign outside announcing that it is opening soon as an exclusive Indian reataurant. Wargrave already has a good Indian and doesn't need another one.

There's a huge board outside advertising this pub's food. When we got inside we found that food is only sold in the evening, which was rather annoying as we'd specially chosen this pub as we wanted lunch.

I can confirm it is open but not sure why. No-one but staff in the place and although London Pride on the pumps Wells Bombardier had run out. London Pride was nothing special.

I was only reporting what I was told (about the owners). I am happy to confirm that the pub has reopened.

The White Hart is not a Brakspears pub. I have heard it is reopening today!

The story is that apparently the last licencees were actually making a profit so Brakspears, their friendly landlords, increased their rent considerably. Their response was allegedly to trash the pub and do a moonlight flit.

Looks to have closed down.

The beer (Pride and Brakspear) is usually of a decent standard (though not cheap) but I can't ever really get that excited by the place.

Quaffed a very nice pint of brakspear in the beer patio out the back, nice friendly service too, 7/10

Decent drinkers pub, with a superb pint of Pride and a not-so-superb pint of Brakspear Ordinary; a dull choice really, as noted elsewhere.

Good atmosphere when I went in, enjoyed it.

Quizzer wants to pay.

Worth a stop for a pint if in the area.

Pleasant airy pub with a couple of real ales, however at 3.4% ABV the Brakspear's bitter was unreasonably priced at 2.90 pint - there are cheaper beers in Mayfair! Nice pub but avoid buying a round at all costs.

A rather average and slightly expensive Brakspears Bitter was served. Pub is pleasant and the staff friendly.

Friendly atmosphere. Very 'middle of the road' pub. The best in Wargrave by far ...............

Great food, great atmosphere, friendly family run pub. Will definitely visit again.

Revisited on evening recently after a few months gap.
As described below, dining area (quite busy) and
bar with footy on the TV. The bar was rather empty, possibly still due to the smoking ban (hooray!).
Brakspears and Pride on the handpump, which IMHO shows rather a lack of imagination, considering the other fabulous local beers (West Berkshire, Loddon, Rebellion, etc.) that are available. That said, the Pride was in good condition.
Dogs are allowed in.

I visited the White Hart a couple of times while staying in Wargave with my children. We were impressed, and found the pub welcoming, the service quick and attentive, the food extremely good, with generous proportions. The food is good honest pub cooking, done well.

We were slightly put off by the machines and television, thinking that the pub might be a bit noisy for a quiet dinner, but in fact we were comfortable and it was a false impression that the place was noisy.

We returned the following evening, and our experience was just as good. I would recommend this place to a friend.

Pride and decent Brakspear on handpump. A third of the pub to the right of the entrance is set up for dining, specials 6 starter, 10 main. Nice lounge to the left with wooden leather-padded chairs & round tables (perfect for a game of cards). This style followed down the side and rear of the pub where there was a plasma, a bandit, and a vid machine, one of which was periodically emitting intrusive bleeping noises; why dont pubs turn the sound off, or right down, on gaming machines? Walls adorned with interesting local stories and old photos.

I visited this pub about a week and a half ago but it wasn't something that I'd do again. The decor is very nice and it is certainly trying hard to position itself as a gastro pub. The left side as you walk in was showing the football and the right is the dining area, so there was a nice balance.

However, the experience was not good though because the food was awful. I paid 8.50 for a Penne Arrabiata and when it came out it was Penne with some "doritos dip" style tomato sauce on top. There was just no imagination, flavours, herbs, spices or anything to it. When the manager asked if we had enjoyed the meal as we paid, I said no. When I explained why, he sniffed that he would tell the chef who would be "upset". No offers to make amends, or even an apology.

There are lots of good pubs that do food in Wargrave (and Henley and Twyford). There are also lots of great restaurants. As such, I would strongly recommend that you avoid this one.

Under new management. I hear that the big screen has gone and that the pub now has a more food-oriented viewpoint.

Excellent beer from Loddon Brewery (and others) on handpumps.
It's a bit difficult to escape from the big (and small) screen TV when the football is on. The village's smokers seem to congregate in this pub (but this will soon be at an end, thank goodness).
