A bit of a tourist trap ,£4 20 for a pint of shandy is somewhat excessive.

The Castle is probably the nearest pub to Skipton's castle. But I don't believe the castle itself is visible from here. The interior is sub-divided into different sections and has character. Food is served. But the young waitresses seemed a bit hapless. Ale choice was poor - Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Fullers Quintessential Pale Ale & Banks's Bitter. Old Peculier was off due to some kind of problem with all Theakson ales?? Nice enough pub. But could do with a better beer selection.

Limited Theakston only beer range, and my mate had a pint of the guest beer that was utterly vile. Nice solid old style Pennine stone building, with benches out front to watch the world go by.

Loses a point for that cardinal sin I cannot abide - allowing a bunch of surly locals to line up on stools all along the fairly small bar front, causing me to have to bellow my order over their heads. Get a table!

Theakston's dominates in this pub which seems popular with locals, who give it a good atmosphere. Bit of an unremarkable interior. Nothing to dislike but nothing to rave about. Would be miles better without carpets and soft furnishings. Good service. All pints tried were in good condition although not really to my taste other than the OP
Basically an ok boozer and somewhere i'd probably frequent if a local.

Cosy pub with possibly the best beer garden in Skipton - always packed on a summer afternoon. Beer is usually Theakstons (best bitter and sometimes XB) plus a guest beer. Highly Recommended.

Spent a night in Skipton during a walking holiday in May 2010, had a pint of Theakston's best, which was standard, the pub was extremely busy - it was late on a Saturday evening, but the bar staff were coping, and seemed very pleasant, the clientle were mainly locals.

I love this pub, and I have made a point of visiting whenever I'm in the area purely for the warm, fun loving atmosphere. The landlord Damian is a complete star, and the staff are always very pleasant. I visited at the weekend but the pub was shut for refurbishment, so I'm looking forward to seeing what improvements have been made. Its one of the few pubs that, as a woman, I feel comfortable going in alone. I know I will be safe. The pub is reopening for the weekend, and I can't wait.

Good traditional pub. Very close to The Castle and next to the Parrish Church. Warm and friendly atmosphere.
