Visited recently. Good basic pub food. Have eaten here before and food excellent. 2 guest beers. Pedigree and Hobgoblin

A decent enough place that is trying hard to please. Disappointing lack of guest beers as tied in to Marston's unadventurous brews. The one I tried was a good pint though.

Well ive read steve2905 comments on the Crispin at Ashover and ive visited it on Saturday evening with a party of 3 others and had a great evening of good ale comprising of Oxford Gold, Cockerhoop, Pedigree and Cumberland and the food was as usual when visiting the pub to the highest standard considering the circumtances, The landlord Andy was buried the day before having been ill for several months previous and passing away on New Years eve and the whole of the staff being affected for several weeks as it is a family enviroment the staff take and it's hit all of them as you could tell. Shame you didn't ask steve instead of being inconsiderate with your feelings when the landlady young as she is with her kiddies and the landlord being in his early 40s and them needing support especially now. Sorry but im sure if you revisited now things have re-settled down you might find normallity reigns at the Crispin.

Historic pub though has obviously undergone recent revamp to the interior which still feels a bit too new for an old pub! I'm sure it'll blend in better in time. Very good beer, food not sampled but looked excellent. Slightly posher clientele than the Poets and Black Swan at time of visit, but still welcoming. If you're in Ashover, just try them all.....

Wowee Steve, you can read and then recite the board outside , well done!

Had a cracking Pint of Adnams Broadside and Cockerhoop.
Great Sunday Lunch and lovely Eton Mess Roulade.
They serve food all day on Sundays to 7pm , so no need to rush your walk in this lovely bit of Derbyshire.

The Crispin Inn is one of the oldest pubs in Derbyshire. The building which dates from 1350 has been an inn since 1416 and was the scene of a skirmish during the civil war. Today, it retains a lot of its olde-worlde charm and character. We called in for lunch on Good Friday and were well impressed. Quite a few tables were reserved for pre-booked parties, but there was still plenty of room for casual visitors. The lunchtime menu offers a good selection of mainly English bar food and our meals were excellent. OK, we did have to wait for a while, but it was worth it; the meals had obviously freshly cooked to order, the portion sizes were good, and the quality was first class and better still the chips were home made.

For the real ale drinker the Crispin offers Jennings Cumberland and Cocker Hoop, Adnams Broadside and Pedigree. I opted for the Cocker Hoop which I couldnt fault except that both the barmaids seemed to routinely serve all the beer with an inch of froth on the top. OK, they did top mine up when I asked, but it was like they were doing me a favour rather than giving me the full pint that they were charging me for. Had it not been for that, I would have given the Crispin 10/10

Lovely pub with nice eating areas, food was good, real home made chips, a refreshing change from the frozen kind!
