First time recently as it is not easy to get to in Hove, just off the seafront. Oppostite the Sussex so you can have a crawl of 4 pubs within 200 metres. Good food and well kept beer. Bar staff organised and pleasant who know how to pull a pint. Recommended. Love their footy and advertise the games they show.

this is an example of a pub taken over by people who love running pubs. great to see. i hope the location doesn't work against them and that the people from the beach find their way up to the alibi. monday nights they give free chili away! Sympathetically decorated (ie NOT just stickign an old beer advert on the wall) and a few ales on tap. They even put the day's crosswords in cups on each table so your not bored if alone. A great example of how pub takeovers should be done - take no forager/connaught/portland...

We had our wedding party at the Alibi August bank holiday weekend and we couldn't have asked for more!! Neil and Tracy went out of their way to make our group of 150 people welcome and fed - extremely well! The bar staff were amazing - extremely friendly and good fun. The beer garden and BBQ are fab and the function room upstairs is great..with a very 'Brighton' feel about it and lovely atmosphere it's a lovely local pub where you won't be queing at the bar or trying to get through loads of tourists! A great place for a group event or a guaranteed seat for food if there's a few of you..Although it's a bit further out of town it's well worth the walk along the sea front to get to..not to be missed.

This pub is now being run by a new team who are working hard to make it a friendly place to visit.

I went in on Tuesday lunchtime (having lived 2 minutes away and never ventured in there before) and was mightily impressed

Returned for their new Tuesday night quiz and, even though there were few of us in number, the guv'nor went ahead with it and we had a a great time on some VERY comfy sofas!

Deserves support, even though the (rather attractive sounding, if the menu is anything to go by) food was not available that day

I will definitely return

There's something rather antipodean about the Alibi, I don't know why and nor do I necessarily mean it as a bad thing. Still, this isn't a pub I'd rush back to although I'd be happy to pop in were I to find myself in the area. The problem is that it finds itself set rather out of the way in a part of Brighton and Hove that on an overcast day can seem particularly bleak and in such circumstances it simply wouldn't do.
Good for: When the sun sun sun is out - 5/10

Good pub, very welcoming. The food, which was great, has taken an unexpected turn for the worse though. Quality of food and value for money are worsening. They play some good music though and have a big screen upstairs which is sometimes rolled out for the football. Sort your food out and you'll be ticking all the boxes (apart from having a pool table!!).

The Alibi

What can i say! Its a lively and friendly gastro pub. It has the only south facing Garden in Hove which is great during the summer. They do good deals on Jugs of summery drinks and sometimes produce homemade flavoured vodkas. There top shelf spirits are good with Andy the owner picking up nice one off bottles on his travels! The food is all home made and really well priced for the quality. Well worth a visit any night of the week! Look out for a lively friday or saturday every so often through the month with a DJ playing the place can be JUMPING!!!!

Definitely better than when it was St Aubyns. Cleaner, more spacious, and higher standards of food and drink. And, being away from most bus routes, it doesn't get too crowded, which is a definite plus.

I have been a regular at the Alibi for a few years and always have a good time when ever I go there. It has a real local feel without being intimidating or snobby. The bar staff are friendly and the service is good without being too in your face.
I think it being a hang out for Hove's gangsters is a thing of the past. The pub hosts British Kite surfing events and is home to lots of local tradesmen (very handy if you need to find a joiner etc.)
Football which is not my cup of tea tends to be upstairs in the function room unless it is a big game. Andy the owner is a pretty big football fan and will accomodate the local language school students if they want to watch Spain/Italy etc.
Recently the Alibi has started doing food in the evenings which is really good "Flossy" the cheff has a varied menu making use of the locally caught seafood on his specials board.
Anyway give the Alibi a go. It could do with a lick of paint here and there but it's a great wee local and I always feel like I'm cheating on it when I go into the arms of another pub.
