Pleasant sea front bar with decent real ale. Didn't experience anything described by Matt 520 so maybe under new management.

Ale was good, as was the veggie sausage and mash.
Not cheap, but then they only have a limited time every year to make their money.....and it seemed to be one of the few places that actually did food in the evening.
As a result of good food and the lack of other eating establishments, this place does get very busy.

Hi I am a previous employee and feel that this should go on record!
The ocean deck as a pub is a nice and lovely place but unforchanly
there are THREE main problems!

1 . boss - is alcholic and a sexiest, expects all his female staff to wear revealing clothes for his pleasure treats staff and customers like rubbish and doesnt have a care in the world when it comes to customer service nor the safety of others , he will be quite often sat with alcohol in hand and causing a domestic !
to which I add is not the place for children although stating that the pub is meant to have a family environment!

2. staff behind the bar are not always of age to serve a blatant disregard for licences laws, - not only will the owner will be fined but so to the under age bar staff (16 yrs) if you are buying alcohol just be aware you might be aiding and a bidding a illegal perches.! <<<< Food for thought

3. bearing in mind Ive seen the kitchen and how food is prepared it is not worth the risk!

this on a whole is a shame because the potentials this pub has is amazing if given a popper chance it could blossom but again this I do not see happing any time soon ! I really do wish that some day that standards will improve.
The location is very nice and well layed out inside, kitchen, bar staff and k,ps are polite and generally hard working!

NOTE this is not due to any other reason but just to inform those;s who need informing , Im not saying dont be a customer , at least you are aware !!!!

Seems mostly a food pub and although I did not eat in there the food looked good. Decent enough ales on tap and a good amount of nautical tat on all available wall space. Worth including in a pub crawl or having dinner.

A seaside fronted pub based on 3 levels with a strong nautical theme throughout. There is an outside decking area, a conservatory level and finally the bar level. The furnishing is relatively bare and not especially comfortable. It had 3 real ales, 2 from Ringwoods. It does a good food trade and the Sunday carvery is worth a visit as it is good value and well cooked.

Although this is attached to a hotel this is NOT a typical hotel bar.Great views of the sea and cliff from the main bar. Had a pint of Ringwoods 49er which was top notch. Didnt try the Old Thumper (pity) coz I didn't have a lot of time.

Ladies in my party in my party had some food which was good and they did not have to wait too long for it. Despite it being busy the barman was friendly and helpful. Very spacious outside area for having a drink. Clearing of vacated tables was bit slow but I will put that down to it being busy

It smells! Seriously, that was my first and overiding impression on walking into this place. It was also empty and the piped music did nothing to create an atmosphere. I looked at my wife, she looked at our daughter, we all screwed our noses up and walked back out again!
Sandown is the one place on the island we have yet to find a pub worth going in for a drink or food. Unfotunately the The Ocean Deck did nothing to change that view...

Dropped in here for a Saturday evening meal. Had to wait 15 minutes to order as they'd started putting another order through the till and then messed it up. Her order was eventually put through wrong (though they immediately refunded the difference when I pointed this out) then waited 50 minutes for our food to arrive.

When the food did arrive hers was nice, but mine was somewhat overcooked. Was however a good portion size. For the price I paid though I didnt expect to have to wait around for so long or to get very overcooked meat.

Won't be eating here again in any hurry.

Came here for lunch with 5 work colleagues on a rainy October day. We were only in the IOW for a day and needed somewhere to eat, drink and sit and chat about our upcoming projects for a few hours.

The weather may have been crap and the pub may have been empty, but the welcome was fantastic. The manager and the barmaid were helpfulness itself. The beer was reasonably priced, the food was wonderful, fresh and prepared beautifully and the toilets were immaculate.

If the weather had played along the location would have been stunning, as it directly overlooks the beach.

Thoroughly recommended.

Wonderful location right by the seafront, good amount of seating outside. Badger bitters and food lunchtimes and evening, with carvery Sunday lunchtimes. Food good, but slightly above average price wise.
