Having been past this pub a thousand times today I made my first visit.
Corner plot pub on the main road between Peckham and Vauxhall, the interior is tastefully decorated with wooden floors and brown painted wallpaper and ceiling.
2 ales on draught, one from London and one from Kings in Sussex. The pint I had was very good and was a new beer for me. Many pumps of fancy lager and Meantime brewery also had 2 pumps.
Large amount of spent beer clips adorned the shelves behind the bar, some very interesting ales.
Mix of people in, of which a few were eating or just drinking coffee.
Music quietly playing in the background, no television or fruit machines.
Good atmosphere and the large furry bear on the bar as you enter is playful.
Unsure how long the pub has been modernised for but its certainly been done well.

It's not a good sign when the toilets smell better than the pub. Bad drains a could have just been a one off.

Modernised street corner pub with a central island bar dispensing.2 real ales - Batemans Salem Porter and one other I can't remember, plus several continental lagers. Cider was Thatchers Gold and Westons over Ice. The pub is fairly dimly lit in the evening. There are no TVs, just music. Blackboards show the current menu, which looked quite adventurous. Although I wasn't here for the food.

Nice old street corner pub, but not quite my cup of tea. Stong emphasis on the food side with place mats laid out at all the tables when I arrived shortly after opening time on a Sunday; clientele predominantly young professional types. However I was mainly tempted along by its appearance in the Good Beer Guide, and two real ales were on namely Acorn Barnsley Bitter and Oakham Rollercoaster. The former was superbly kept, the latter slightly green and rather pricey at �3.45 a pint.
The pub istelf was furnished smartly and simply with bare floorboards and wooden tables & chairs with banquette seating along one wall, but despite nice big windows and sunny weather the dark brown walls and ceiling made it feel a bit gloomy. Painting the walls & ceiling in a much paler colour would be a big improvement.

What's with a beer festival and not advertising it? It wasn't even on their own web site yet they had about 7 big casks of stilage beer in addition to the regular handpumps. Twas not even mentioned on the south london camra website, london drinker or anything.

We went for Sunday lunch on 20/12/09 and it was a bit of a shambles. Starters were brought out, but not great; the pate dish didn't even have any toast/bread to go with it, and upon enquiring, we got the reply "Errrm, I don't think it comes with that". Towards the end of the starters two mains were brought out; we said we weren't ready for them yet as we hadn't finished our starters (doh!) and asked if maybe they could keep them warm while we finished, they said no! So, we had to have two of the mains in impromtu fashion. The rest of the mains arrived 25 minutes later!
2 people twiddled their thumbs while everyone else ate. There wasn't even a hint of an apology, and when we (quite pointedly) didn't leave a tip, the staff were visibly annoyed...ummm, it's because you were a bit crap and insincere!
Food was average, and I'm not sure who reviewed it from The Observer, but they must have been very inebriated on the ale...which was very good; well, there's something at least.

Me and my friends decided to go out for Sunday lunch, we ended up at the Bear. We waited nearly an hour for the food to arrive. The plates were cold!! so was all the food.... the beef was dripping with blood and the carrots were raw!!! It was horrible..... I won't be going there again...... Yuk!!

Went in there for Sunday lunch. One of the barmen appeared to be "on something" or just badly hungover (bloodshot eyes, twitchy lips, shaking hands) and there was an excessively long wait for our food to arrive (nearly an hour); otherwise I would have thought this was a great pub, as opposed to just good. Nice atmosphere, excellent ales (e.g. Robinsons Dizzy Blonde, my namesake!), and the food (when it did arrive) was very good and not outrageously expensive (about �11 for a Sunday roast). Not necessarily a destination pub but a good local in a slightly sketchy area.

Not bad, but not open early. I'm often the first person there. Doesn't fill up v quickly. Staff good. Drinks well served. High staff turnover though which is a pity, as you can't build up a "your usual?" relationship. Never had the food, although it looks nice. Could do with a band in there now and then perhaps.

This is a fantastic pub in an area that is becoming rapidly competitive for good drinking holes.
Less pretentious than Sun & Doves and a fun, simple atmosphere. The food and drink is great, if a little expensive, and the pub quiz is worth a go.
Friendly staff and always guest ales if you're into that sort of thing.

Great food and great beer. Usually 3 real ales.
Building up a real following after a slow-ish start.
