Really welcoming proper old fashioned boozer. Well kept Butcombe. Live music on a couple of times a week - excellent local Cajun band Ponchartrain were playing the night we were in. Mixed crowd from students to pensioners. No food but they're happy for you to bring in a take-away.

3 beers on doombar , butcombe , and timothy taylors landlord, the last of which I drunk about 2 pints of okay i'm lying it may have been a couple more , quality was excellent, good music in here as well some nights, worth a visit now on what I think is probably the best real ale circuit in Bristol.

This has never been the greatest of ale pubs, but at least it looked as if it had found it's niche about 6 months ago. I think I was the only customer on saturday night. early on, although a small group came as I was leaving. Nice enough people running the pub, but only Doombar on ,just a half and I was on my way.

A traditional old corner pub that seems to be having some work done at the moment with plenty of scaffolding around the outside. Hopefully they wont be touching the interior, as that has a certain dated charm to it.

Its the sort of place that probably hasnt really changed much in decades, with a rough wooden floor, and a mis-match of wooden tables. Theres a pile of board games, table football, a couple of shelves of books and a selection of photo-art on the wall, much of it for sale. There is also a small courtyard out the back with a BBQ.

Food offering was more along the lines of snacks than substantial meals, with a selection of sandwiches, tapas, platters, etc.

Beer offering was a bit disappointing. Although there were four pumps on the bar, only one was in use offering Bath Ales Jem. To be fair, it looked as though the BOB may have recently run out as the pump clip was turned round, but the other two pumps appeared to be unused. The solitary cider was Thatchers Gold.

Visited December 2009. Easy going atmosphere, laid back service and beers were drinkable enough. Certainly on the best form I have experienced, and I have been visiting on and off for 10 years.

Nice enough place with a couple of decent ales on, and a fair selection of other fayre.

Was dead when we went in (to be fair it was 1pm on a Saturday). Nice enough inside, quite comfy.

Will pop in again.
