Adjacent to a GK pub and a 'spoons' so it's really a no-brainer for choice. Full range of Castle Rock beers plus guests and real cider. Opted for Japanese Essence of Thames Water (aka London Pride) which was in good nick.

Great little pub on the inside. Relaxing atmosphere and nice beers.

Overall the best pub in this part of Nottingham. Brilliant range of real ales plus very decent food. The pizzas or Caribbean chicken are recommended. They have a card scheme where you get a free pint with 8 stamps, so worth asking for the stamps if you are in a large group. It's hidden from view - it's up the drive to the right of the Wetherspoons. Only criticism is it is often very busy and the walls reflective of noise so not brilliant for quiet conversation. A couple of tables outside, but no real garden.

In here last Saturday and what a supper pub this is.
I almost missed it as it is part hidden behind Weatherspoons.
Good number of punters in and service was fine too.
8 Hand pumps 4 for Castle Rock ales and 4 for the guests.
A few "we are in the GBG" stickers on the door but couldn't see one for 2012.

Yeah the toilets do stink, you can even smell camphour in the ladies toilet, it also seeps into the eating area, butv the food is good

Castgle Rock beers,some interesting bric-a-brac and a plesant old bakery interior. Well worth the bus ride up to Mapperley from the City Centre. I also won some beer here in one of their raffles to perhaps I'm a bit bias?

Spent a busy saturday afternoon here in the garden. Lots of good ales to try but the food had been very muched hyped and consequentially i was disappointed with my vege meal.The interior retains the bread ovens from it's former incarnation as Judge's Bakery and has a relaxed appearence of working man's club, didn't strike me as attempting to be too posh.

Apart from lighting that's too bright and a lack of comfy seating, this is a nice place to spend a Saturday night

Now that the Bread and Bitter has some real competition from the two pubs next door it's easy to appreciate what a star it is. I think I was a bit harsh previously.
On my visit last Saturday, which was to inaugurate my18 year old godson into the wonders of beer, there was a great atmosphere and the place was heaving.
If you like real ale that's well kept with and choice of between seven and ten beers this is the place. The food's good to.
Best drink in the area by far. Best pub in Mapperley.

Not a bad effort but rather sterile unless it's full, such as on Friday night after all it's really a barn and bakery with bare brick walls. The food is fairly good and the staff are pretty efficient even when the place is crowded and the beer is well kept.
Within two months this will be one of three pubs within 50 yards, it'll be competing with one new build from Wspn and a local which is being refurbed. I think that trend followers will move on then and the regulars will be beer drinkers who like a well kept pint. No bad thing then.

Top marks for effort with the beer and food, which are the most important things in my view. Around ten real ales are on offer, with a decent selection of exotic bottled beers too. The menu is unusual and has a Caribbean trend; my lunch was very good. As other reviews have noted, the feel of the pub is a bit clinical with a distinct lack of comfy chairs and no garden and this might dissuade me from settling in here for a lengthy session.

First impression of the pub is like walking into a sterile new built cafe/ visitors centre. One almost expected to see a gift shop there too. Our small group sat in the Ovens Room which is essentially the dining area. This felt more like a pub as there is some breweriana on display.
The pub got increasingly busy and the food looked impressive. I'll definitely order a meal the next time I visit.
There were 3 or 4 Castle Rock ales on, and several guests including Titanic, Thornbridge, and Abbeydale. All well kept. We were served quickly as there were 3 staff behind the bar.

New pub and a welcome addition to the area. Large selection of real ales which attracts a large (in more ways than one)number of real ale enthusiasts.This may change in due course but it is very much a male environment. There seems to be a lack of comfortable seating, most of the space being taken over by restaurant type seating. The food is excellent though. I would have thought that a new pub should have made more provision for smokers. There is plenty of space outside for a covered patio area and it is a great pity that this has not been done. On the whole though I like the place, friendly staff, and good service.
