Beer was fine and it's worth visiting for the views alone.

I had lunch in this so-called pub last Wednesday and yet again I was utterly disappointed. I may as well of gone to Burger King, freezer to microwave to slam down on table, flat beer and recently rude staff, will no longer use as my local, goodbye

Good beer. Good food. Wonderful setting. No complaints.

We were in the middle of a pleasant walk along the ridge when we spotted this pub and decided to stop for a beer. Six ales available, I had a decent pint of Thornbridge Jaipur IPA and my son had Black Sheep Bitter which was also in good nick. Having eyed up the food we indulged ourselves with a good value Sunday lunch. Considering how busy it was, the meals were served within fifteen minutes. They were certainly not microwaved. A second pint was delivered to our table on request. I thought the service was very professional, efficient and friendly and would certainly visit again.

The location is lovely. The choice of food was good however it was rather disappointing when it arrived- average. The staff we're rude and bad mannered. I see this as an important feature in a restaurant and would therefore not return myself nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

A large, imposing, stone built pub, sitting high on the hill above Ilkley Town centre. On the edge of the famous moor, it faces the eponymously named rocks beloved by the local climbing community. It is owned by Vintage Inns.
The interior is essentially one opened out space, but with several discernible drinking areas. Although decorated to a high standard, it�s all a bit too slick and corporate to have any real character. Having said that, the atmosphere was quite relaxed when we called late afternoon.
The three real ales on our visit were the ubiquitous Black Sheep Bitter, Taylor �Landlord� and Greene King �East Green�. The �Landlord� was curiously lacking in flavour. It was fresh enough and served at a decent temperature, but totally bland. After a good walk on the moor, it should have tasted wonderful. Bizarre, especially for a Cask Marque accredited pub.
Our barman was rather cool and far from welcoming. Being generous, he may have been frazzled from the Sunday lunchtime rush, but he definitely seemed to have an attitude problem.
Much emphasis is placed on food at the Cow and Calf, but from the snacks we tried the quality was very average. It�s obviously a �destination� pub for Sunday drivers, so be warned.
Cars parked on grass verges suggested it can get horrendously busy.
One real plus is a large patio area with fine views over the valley towards Addingham and Menwith Hill.

rubbish mitchells and butler frozen food 'gastro'
great location but its dragging its feet with the food offering. when i complained about my portion i was advised that 'this is the portion controlling we use...'
pointless remark and i was offered a measly 1.50 off my bill
will never go back for frozen micro food but maybe for a beer after a walk
what a waste - the landlords should be embarassed and do some real proper food !!
