I found the bar staff to be welcoming and the beer was nice. I will definitely return, as I'm based in the Mourningsnide area for the next few months.

Started drinking here in the Seventies when Drew and the Duchess ruled the roost, serving up the magnificent Belhaven treble of 60/-, 70/- and 80/-. Still feel nostalgic about those days when the idiosyncratic clientele included Pat, Catweazle, the guy with the sticks, the man from the Scotsman, the Dentist, etc., and the linoleum had more cracks than Tim Vine. The makeover may have smoothed out some of this grand old pub's eccentricities but it has been carried out so sympathetically that I don't feel the loss of the old place as acutely as I might have. Service is quick and friendly and there are always at least four real ales on tap.

I always visit this pub when in Edinburgh - nice pint of Scottish beer using the old-style Scottish fonts; fabulous tiling and windows etc. Maps on the table tops!! Just a nice heritage pub. Next door to the Kings Theatre and bus stops.

Refreshing alternative to anything else in Morningside with decent beer to boot. Nothing has changed in years; nothing wrong with that.

Nicely furnished bar, sparkly and with what seems to be thirties stained glass in the windows. Narrow, very crowded during my visit. It had Deuchars and Caledonian 80/- on pump. There was a private room at the back which was reserved for the night. At least it wasn't reserved individual tables. The football was on at first, two large flat screens at either end of the main bar.

Its a Dingy Pub with no Charm I suppose it is Ok if you need The Toilet but beware it might not be Clean

What a gem of a find. Slightly hidden away from it all and not as in your face as the Canny Man or Morningside Glory BUT a really friendly, locals pub that welcomes you in and offers friendly service and a good pint to top it off.
It's definately a blast from the past but that in my mind is one of the charms of it, there should be more pubs like this!

When you've had enough of the Canny Man prices and surliness try a real local pub.
Bennets has a c1964 decor, no that's not a trendy retro styling. It has a telly the size of a Ford Escort perched high up in the corner. Snacks include scratchings, ordinary crisps, pickled eggs... There is generally 1 or 2 pub cats stalking the visiting dogs.
But the most important thing...
The ale. Generally have a minmum of 3 guest ales and more often 5. We've had lovely Stewart's ales - a mighty fine Pentland IPA is a regular. Ossian is also frequently poured. Frequent south of the border guests as well. Beer is always well kept.
