Very good Covid prevention system. Had a bloke directing you to any available table, and explaining the drinks and food ordering system. Food was good and nice sized portions. Had a bitter shandy as was driving later (Half hour walk back to the car).
Wonderful site and rightfully popular.

Just a word of warning: though this pub opens at 11:00, apparently their licence doesn't allow the sale of alcohol till noon on Sundays ! Not welcome after a long walk/cycle to get here on a hot day (he said in his best Victor Meldrew voice).

A world class setting for this pub.
You can walk, cycle or even arrive by boat but usually cannot drive to this place.
Great in the summer months but the pub is closed in the winter.
The interior of the pub is small but you don't come here to sit inside
The only trouble with this kind of place is it is a right tourist trap so a fair share of morons is possible.
Much better than the double locks though.

8/10

My first visit to this pub last Monday having seen it from the train many times, I walked from Starcross station, about 2 miles along the seawall. What a stunning location, the pub is next to the sealock for the EXeter ship canal with extensive gardens and extensive views across the Exe estuary. 6 beers were available from the Otter Brewery and the Exeter Brewery based in nearby Exminster, food looked good and the service was friendly, altogether a fantastic pub well worth a visit.
In Summer there is an hourly ferry service to Topsham Quay and a less frequent one along the canal to the Double Locks pub nearer Exeter.

Noted a few cars parked here yesterday. They must have driven along the track from Exminster. A pity to loose the car free status. As I did not see any blue badges I assume that some people are too bone idle to walk for a formerly unique experience.

That said, this is a lovely pub in an ideal setting. They have a good range of beers and we received a pleasent welcome. Didn't have any food, but will try next time.

Cycled to this pub as it is not reachable by road.We had fish and chips which was very nice although a little expencive at 9.99 each, this was washed down with a few pints of Otter bitter for me and Aspnal cider for my wife.
Outside in the large grounds there was a barbeque for the patrons which I was told was a regular thing in the summer.
This pub is worth the walk/cycle that it takes to reach it.

Lovely pub in wonderful location. Only accessible on foot or by bicycle, although I believe you can catch a boat down the canal from Exeter in the summer.

Local Exminster and Topsham Ales and the tranquil location between the Exe Estuary and the Exeter Canal make this a great pub. I believe (though I may be wrong)that the Turfs is the only pub in the country where you cannot drive to.

Pleasant summer pub (I believe it is only open during the summer months) on the cycle trail between Exeter and Dawlish. Good well kept beer and excellent food on offer which is well deserved after the long walk or cycle to get there. Situated on the estuary looking out towards Topsham, lovely beer garden with loads of space. On the opposite end of the pub to the estuary is the canal, so it's also reachable by canoe.
