Now it's the westow house, think it's run by the antic chain (which are churning out pubs by the dozen now and getting a bit samey and annoying). This pub tho is pretty good, I go in the week to avoid the weekend crowds. Good range of beer and reasonably priced, friendly staff. It's often open to 12 even in the week which is very welcome (later at weekends).

Yes, it's now called Westow House. Beer seemed a bit flat (and no, it wasn't a real ale).

Being refurbished apparently... and a name change...

The blue bottle has a great space and location, good deco and decent selection of beers. When I first moved into the area I was positively surprised by the pub, however once I got there at night in week-ends I suddenly (and rightly) changed my mind.
I appreciate the effort of the new management to take this off the black list but this remains below average location where bouncers should spot a trouble maker not because of the trainers he is wearing. They should relax more and pick up from the crowds from the White Hart and the Mansion, probably a no-chavs policy will support the business!

Been going to The Bluebottle for a month on a Thursday. The best night night out in Crystal Palace purely because of the music policy. Guitar based music - indie, rock, Northern soul, funk. brilliant stuff. keep it up Bluebottle.

Apparently there is new management here and I'm not surprised because the atmosphere has relaxed here and I had a feb night out last week. Liked the music though it's not normally my scene and met some nice people and fit guys especially!

This isn't rotten, though it isn't great either. Very expensive and there are no real ales available. Late licences are guaranteed and they play cartoons in the back bar. For when your preferred watering hole has closed early and you want a extra pint only. Mixed ages tho geared towards young (top crumpet!).

Had a great time watching the football, definitely the best place to drink in crystal Palace. didn't have a problem at the bar or with the bouncers, didn't really notice them much which must be a good thing! Am new to the area, plan to make it my local.

Cavernous pub with little atmosphere, expensive beer and disinterested bar staff.
Open later on a Friday and Saturday night so it gets the opportunity to be below average for even longer.

Got turned away for wearing a New York Knicks t-shirt - "sorry mate, no sportswear". This was at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. I was not aware that a wave of basketball related violence was sweeping the country. This place is up its own arse, and the barstaff are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Expensive too.

I've always found the bouncers here really friendly. It has bizarre letting in rules though. It's open till 2am but sometimes the manager decides not to allow anyone in after 11.15 if he's in a bad mood!

I reserved a table here for my birthday on Saturday and bought 25-30 friends with me

All my friends had to wait between 20-39 minutes to get served and the bar staff were blatantly serving people they knew first

Also the bouchers were sooo rude. I won't be going back there again

There's only one thing I can say - APPALLING service!!
Spent most of my night waiting and waiting and waiting at the bar even though it wasn't that busy.
After about 25 mins of this (ON TWO OCCASSIONS IN ONE NIGHT) me and my friends went elsewhere because we wanted to spend time with each other rather than staring at the bar staff and spitting feathers. Rubbish.

Went there on a Saturday night with some friends and waited about 15 minutes to get served. The second round took even longer, I was at the front for over 20 minutes until I gave up and went elsewhere to carry on the night.

So, terrible service which is a shame as it is has potential to be a great pub. Great interior and a huge space though drinks are a little bit steep. Late license at the weekends draws in people from surrounding areas. They just need to put on more staff who know how to serve people.

Equally enjoyable for a late night session or leisurely daytime quaffing. Lots of space out front which is good during the summer.

the bouncers at the weekend are surely and rude. Once you walk through the door it is a nice place for crystal palace.

Good place to go to no matter the occasion, and a chilled atmosphere. On word of warning, a friend had something slipped into her drink a couple of months back; though this is hopefully an isolated incident.

Serves a nice glass of Hoegaarden.

Huge great big venue, recently redecorated and much brighter for it! Comfy sofas and open fires in winter, or big outside area for the summer make it the best place to drink in the area!

Certainly agree with the comments the best place to drink in CP,mind you its not that cheap though
Stu - 10 Mar 2004 12:44
DJ's are great, and it benefits from late licence on Friday or Saturday. Definately best place in CP for a good night.
Lou - 31 Dec 2003 12:03
I agree - the only pub around which is not a themed/old man's pub (although it used to be)and it is massive ! We're off tonight so it must be good.

Big pub on top of Westow Hill. Great DJs at the weekend, good crowd of people for Crytal palace.

The only civilised place to drink in the Palace.
