Tontine Hotel, Telfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
My bed for the night as all the hotels in Telford were full, says it's open all day but the doors were firmly shut when I arrived at 3.45 pm. It had a make over in 2018, the rooms are very nice but it didn't work in the pub which wasn't helped by four children using it as a playground. The Three Tuns XXX was decidedly average, the Butty Bach was much better. Breakfast wasn't too bad.

Large, cavernous Georgian hotel that once was visited by royalty but would be better suited nowadays as a Wetherspoon pub. At least if Mr Martin did get his hands on this place, there might be more than a dozen people inside. The Three Tuns XXX wasn't on so it was a pint of Timothy Taylor Boltmaker for me (which was reasonable) rather than the Butty Bach. Overall verdict - could be much better.

Pleasant to visit in the day with outside seating area which overlooks the bridge. Stonehouse Station bitter was good

Amazing that the pub with the best spot in Ironbridge, right opposite the bridge, is so ordinary. The night I went in there the beer was ok, but the place smelt like a deep fat fryer and the only other clientelle were, well, grubby is probably the best word to describe them.

It is such a shame about this pub. OK now they do a decent cask ale but the place is full of chav and chavettes climbing over the furniture on a Saturday evening - not a pleasant place to be. Stopped for 1 and left. Great location, shame about the standards!

Fair play the Tontine now has decent cask ale (didn't used to!) Decent pints of Butty Bach and Salopian Shropshire Gold. Still a bit of a down market place but OK.

Decent hotel bar directly facing the iron bridge that feels more like a pub. Loads of interesting paintings etc on the walls along with other memorabilia. Lots of different styles of seating as well. Some comfortable sofas, some leather sofas and a couple of chairs with the backrests made from wagon wheels. Two banks of three handpumps doubling up with Salopian Shropshire Gold, Corvedale Norman�s Pride and Wye Valley Butty Bach. The Corvedale was a decent pint. It�s a hotel from a bygone era apart from the prices, my pint was �2.80 which is pretty expensive even for a tourist trap like Ironbridge.
