Two bar Edwardian free house in Upper Upnor. Friendly and efficient staff. After a long walk six of use called in for Sunday lunch at 4pm they couldn't have been more helpful, and the food was excellent. The beer (Welton's Sussex Pride) was also in very good condition. A good example of what a modern pub should be about.

Loved this place so much I had to return the next day. Had all the things I wanted from a boozer including a lovely garden, bar billiards, a quiz machine and some top beers on offer.
The first day I visited they had a beer called Oscar Wilde from the Mighty Oak Brewery. This beer was recently voted Champion Beer of Britain and I could see why. This beer is a dark mild and at 3.6% ABV I wouldnt usually go for this due to my penchant for stronger tipples. However, I am glad I did as it was the nuts. It was a pity that by the time I returned the next day it had run out.

Five ales on of which I went for the Whitstable IPA - a good enough beer. The place has a public bar, lounge-come-dining area and a bar billiards room. The bar man came round and actually asked me if the music was too loud and would I like it turned down... what a differnece from the ratholes of Gillingham.

Good beer, good food. Nice pint of Purity Gold and a roasty stout, the name of which escapes me. Delicious home cooked lasagne to boot. Would definitely return.

Decent pub. Does decent enough food. Good range of cask ales - the range has been growing over the years. Big, popular beer garden. And bar billiards. The dining room is separate from the rest of the pub, and has its own bar. There are two other bars.

Winning the CAMRA award for best beer in Medway was a bit of a smoke screen as the main appeal of this pub for locals is the excellent food that is served. Only usually heeving when a party is in full swing it is a nice quiet drinker on a Friday night. However some of the ales are not of the highest quality

I visited The Kings Arms a lot last year and could never fault the food at all.
Sometimes there is quite a wait to get seated, but maybe because it is such a small pub, it is best to book really before hand to make sure you get seated.
The roasts are the best ever, which are always well presented, with plenty of it.
A good selection of beer, wine and ale. Staff are always plesant and effecient.

Hop Back 'Summer Lightning' - one of my favorite beers, in excellent condition. The barman was working his socks off on this busy Bank Holiday. The cheesey baked potatoes were over done by a million miles with skins like leather but the beer and the sunshine was unbeatable.

I visited this pub for the first time about 2 months ago just to try their range of real ales. There were 6 ales on to try, the first seemed to be slightly off but the guy had no qualms in serving me a fresh pint of something else and even let me try it first. The other beers were all in good condition.
I visited again a few weeks ago to try the food with my wife. The menu was good, along with the usual pub type foods they were serving specials like 'hot roasted duck salad with tempura vegetables' and 'minted lamb steaks with new potatoes / salad', we tried both and were not disappointed, both were excellent. the prices were reasonable and the real ale tried was in top condition, the lady who served us I think was the owner and was friendly too, all in all a good pub and restaurant, one we will be visiting again soon.

My family took my dad here for his birthday last weekend and I have to say that the food is overpriced muck. They do that piling the food up in the middle of the plate rubbish. I had the meditteranean chicken which was dry and tough to chew and I had potato skins for a starter which had clearly been nuked in the microwave. The waitresses have the wrong attitude and are stroppy and rude to customers which did not go down well and so they didn't get a tip. The pub is okay if you want a drink but not good for a meal.

A nice friendly pub,we have visited on many occassions its especially well worth a look when the beer festivals are on. Rob the landlord keeps a good selection of real ales and knows his stuff. Food is home cooked and well presented.The restaurant is delightful and the food more than ample. The garden is well mantained with plenty of room to sit out in (when weather permits). We visited in the summer and was pleased to find Morris dancers and folk singing in the garden.

We waited at the bar while one staff polished forks in the empty dining area to the rear, then while two other staff members came to serve themselves & leave, then while some troll feeding herself at the bar (evidently another member of staff) berated us for laughing at this appalling lack of service, then finally a polite barmaid showed up to produce a good pint of Westerham Grasshopper & 2 flat pints of Wells Bombardier Burning Gold. Friends said it had a decent garden but I imagine the grass will need mowing before you reach it. If you take a bus or an �8 taxi from Rochester I would suggest swerving this place in favour of the Tudor Rose just down toward the river.

This pub was a delight to visit-good beer[white rabbit]and superb food served by a cheerful waitress.
This visit-with friends-was on the 3/5/07 and we will certainly be returning.

Visited 09 Aug 06. This pub has 3 very seperate parts to it, and should be reviewed in this way.
The "pub" bit consists of a smallish bar, and a side room with a bar billiards table. The beer on offer was from the Dartford brewery, Kent Red and Hoppy Daze. Both were in good condition. The landlady was very helpful and quite chatty.
The beer garden was immaculate, small fences and three tiers meant that although the garden was able to cope with large numbers, there was still a feeling of privacy. My ignorance means that I do not know what game was being played in the garden, but whatever it was, it was played by sporting gentlemen, who whilst being competitive, did not intrude on those not taking part.
I know that some on this site believe that reviews should concentrate on beer alone, but that would do this pub an injustice. The restaurant has just hired a new chef. We could not fault the food, be prepared to pay a little more, it is worth it. You may have to reserve a table, but a wait at the bar is fine by me, see above.
In summary, good beer from a local(ish) brewery served by a happy landlady, drunk in a pretty beer garden, followed by a good meal and a friendly waitress equals a highly enjoyable evening out.

This pub/restaurant has recently changed hands this year (2004). And it is the restaurant which is definitely worth a visit - the food is out of this world - the best I have tasted in ages. A must if you enjoy fine cuisine!
