Walked in on the way back to Temple Meads after a few beers in town. Initially slightly put off by the "local" atmosphere. The bar was surrounded by locals drinking fosters - although they didn't make us feel unwelcome. When we were eventually served the beer, Butcombe, was in good condition.

Doesn't look much from the outside, but a gem once inside. Beer was excellent & the pizza I had couldn't be faulted.

Must be one of the most under rated pubs in the area, a proper pub and I've always had an excellent pint of Cheddar Potholer (Butcombe & Doombar seem to be other regulars). Staff always are friendly. Probably best to avoid when big football matches or other sporting events are on if they aren't your thing as it will be shown on a big screen telly with others scattered around and this isn't a big pub, but if you like this sort of thing.....

Something of a commuter pub, so very busy after work, very quiet at other times. It always has some great beers on, one of the few places to regularly do Bath Ales Barnstormer on tap. I wish theyd sort the harsh strip lighting out! If the weather is at all nice, stand outside, enjoy the evening sun and the views of St Mary Redcliffe

this was probably the nicest looking pub i have ever been in. Had a couple pints of doombar which were excellent and the owner was very friendly. Next trip back to the U.K. I will come here again and bring my camera.

Traditional old style pub with lots of red carpet, red carpeted barstools, an ornate wooden bar and etched mirrors on the walls. Decent enough ambience, although very quiet on a recent Tuesday night visit. Perhaps the 3.05 for a pint of Thatcher's Gold is a tad on the expensive side. There's a large plasma in the corner that was showing football.
The only beers on were Butcombe and Bath Ales Barnstormer, although there were also pumps for Jem and Doom Bar. Ciders were Blackthorn and Thatcher's Gold.

Fine pub, excellent beer, great staff. Only off-putting thing was the picture of the odd looking beardy bloke behind the dart board. Couldn't hit me double with him leering at me.

What a great idea - being able to sit with a nice pint and look out over the inspiring architiecture of St Mary Redcliffe church - once the security van had moved from outside the window.

If I'd known how bad the Bag o Nails was going to be , I'd have stayed for a few more.

Reopened - it wasn't shut for long, and nothing seems to have changed apart from maybe a lick of paint. Oh, and the prices have gone up.

One of the few pubs where local city centre white collar workers can actually find a space and a decent beer in a normal boozer at 6pm on a Thursday and Friday.

Which has to be a good thing.

Had the standard pub chain bland-o-rama refit in the mid 90s, but worth a trip for the excellent, ever-changing range of ales and a great view of the soaring magnificence of St Mary Redcliffe church opposite.
